My brother and sister in law (both Carlton) were impressed with him yesterday and they think he is going to be a star.

I won't lie, it is nice to have opposition supporters start to credit our recruitment team after years of them being bagged out.

Glad we have him under contract for 2 more!

You really must be joking or haven't watched many matches, as Watts kicking, smarts and goal sense are exceptional as are his goal assists, an area where Weideman showed yesterday he will be very valuable in our team structure. Although I didn't see the entire game, the two goal assists to Hogan and Viney in particular were very unselfish (and effective)!

He does some nice things but nothing more than cameo's here and there.
Had an average season last year and people start wetting themselves.
Signs a lucrative new 3yr contract and turns up to training with a "look-a-moi" hair style and his shorts around his knees.
No wonder Goodwins giving him a wakeup.

If that was an average season, you must think quite highly of him...

Went #1 in his draft year and played 131 games.
He's 6'4,  should be in his prime and tearing a few apart.
But he aint.
So far he's made a nice living being paid for potential.

5th in the B&F in a middle rung side is average.

I implied he had a better than 'average' season.

You then listed his draft number, number of games, his height, a supposition that he should be in his prime and 'better than average' and a dig at his unmet potential.

The first three things are largely irrelevant and I think you have to completely ignore facts to agree with the last two statements - he is literally playing on a contract he earned off the back of his form last season.

On that basis, I suppose 3rd in the B&F in a middle rung side is fairly average too.

Even though that dude dominated the competition and was named the All Australian ruckman.

The Weed will be kicked out of the forward's club for handballing to Viney in the goalsquare when he should have torped it 60m into the Casey Fields carpark!

Goodwin specifically says in his post-match press conference that he's very happy with the way Hogan and Weideman are combining and providing opportunities for small forwards.  He also indicates that there is some further improvements they want to see ahead of R1, that could be Watts and/or Kent in JLT3.

I expect Weideman to play JLT3 and R1.

It's interesting to see the discount here on his "joe the goose" goals, as if they mean nothing.  He either outworked or outsmarted or both the premiership defence on those occasions.

If there were a poll on this board. Weideman Vs Watts. It would only show two answers - 1. Weideman is great. 2. Watts is useless.

anyone know weeds stats?. I like the look of him but can hardly remember him getting a touch. I think McKay had less than 5 possesions but he showed more than Weideman for mine.

Off the top of my head I don't know their stats - and can't be bothered looking. But after just watching the replay I was impressed with Weideman's intent. He wants that football. I don't think he quite has the body for AFL yet, given that I think he is a pack crasher. He will be a good player. Weideman created goals on the weekend, and stats don't show that. Stats won't show him hand a goal off to Viney in the goal square either.

It will if you look at his handball stats.

The stats won't show how many contests he makes and gets the ball to ground for the crumbers to do their thing.  The stats also won't show the amount of off-the-ball body work he does to create space for said crumbers.

This-morning on SEN they were talking about him and i think that Gary said he was very impressed with the work he was doing (even though he wasn't getting a lot of the ball).

How good will this kid become?

An absolute Gun, as long as we don't play him in the seniors to early.

Similar to Taylor Walker, let the Weid DOMINATE in the seconds before he plays Seniors...

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
