From what I can gather from talking to the players,  off season they are told to stay away from the weights, assume for safety, supervision and proper instruction, so  we will see Omac 'grow' during pre season

Always find it hilarious we find somebody who weighs in at 93 or 94kgs as skinny, all relative I suppose

Anyone in particular looking in good nic saty?

While generally I agree, when you are 194+ and expected to wrestle guys 100-105kg, that 5-10kg makes a huge difference

Ben Mathews said all were at a good level of fitness. As above Hogan must have done a heap of work looks in top shape as does Nev Jetta who said he had been training with Jeff Garlett during off season    the reverse view nobody looked like they had 'enjoyed' the pre season too much

I joked with the fitness staff that I was disappointed that this was the first year of watching the first day back and none of the players had had a second look at breakfast, they must have been too easy on them    it was a nice warm up get the legs going 2hr session

Billy Stretch looks like he's put on some bulk in those pics and that's what BRFE noted too.

I know they do that rope thing during the off season and that helps arms and chest

Weight thing is in case they get ahead of themselves and try and lift weights they are not capable of and do some serious damage

Didn't think Bill looked any bigger, was another one in great shape though

Hogan has shed the puppy fat and now looks like an athlete.  Whatever hes done the last two months has worked a treat.

I would have thought they would all have a program supervised by Rob Jackson or Alex Sakadjian. May not be the same thing they do once pre-season kicks off, but surely they do some kind of program.

I attended today and it's fair to say that it was a low key session. The former Dons ran hard with Hibberd looking in good nick. Tom McDonald led them through several full lap runs. In the 7 minute run the two recruits, Maynard and McKenna shone, with Hogan the only one that challenged them. Mitch King was able to do quite a bit of the leading and passing routine. He looks more athletic and a better kick than his recently delisted namesake

In light of the goings on at the WACA and given Paddy McKenna's excellent credentials in  the sport, was there any discussion about him getting a call up to higher honours in the Australian XI at Bellerive next week?

Some photos here.

Jetta looks to have aged about 10 years in 10 weeks.

Who's the 5th photo off? Maynard King?

Cheers

They do.

One that generally maintains strength and size unless an individual is asked to drop muscle mass.

Thanks for the reports.

From pictures, Kent looks to be the only one carrying some condition.

Why would he want to join that lot of second rates WJ?

He is getting with the strength and preparing for high honours.

There is a grey area with working with coaches and fitness staff during off season,  they are  not supposed to be supervised etc not sure of the rules, just told by some players weights are out during off season

From being there Kent did appear most out of shape.

Was he required to be there? He's going into his 5th season so not sure if he was, might be using the extra week or so he has off to get back into shape before being required to 'officially' be there? That's not to say he looks way out of shape but I imagine some guys get back to close to full training a week or so before pre-season even begins.

Not sure he's out of shape, has a history of doing hammys early in pre season, maybe on tailored progam, interesting group he was running with Trac BenKen and Frosty

Without knowing for sure that would make sense as ANB not there as well. Hogan looked seriously lean in a good way. Was getting across the turf beautifully. Wagner the other that stood out for me. Maynard has some serious size on him and did not look out of place skills wise. Was very much a loosener of a session to get the legs moving and some touch. Goodwin alot more hands on with players than I had seen from Roos in prior years. Lots of getting around to each player, quick chat pat on back and move on.

I think the Casey ones got an extra week, so next Monday for them.

I was there briefly passing through, and agree that Hogan looked in terrific shape. Hibberd seemed to be doing laps - he won't have to worry about copping the ultimate put down from the old school types of being only an "ather-lete" and not a footballer.

Some other minor observations after first training session...

McKenna looks a lot like Wagner, so expect those two to be mixed up if they manage to play seniors together. Missed the voices of the senior players... it was awfully windy in the paddock today, but even so, there wasn't a lot of voice being used when I was there. Jack Viney didn't seem to be hindered in his ball handling or movement during his restricted program. Thought I saw Weiderman early, then walk of a little sore... BUT, then I realised I was thinking of the final qtr v Hawks, which I watched last night! I congratulated Vandenberg on the hard running he completed during the session.

Kent was the only one to appear heavier than how I recall them at end of season. I would not say out of shape but certainly stood out to me as not looking right. Petracca looked no different to me than last year. I know it was the first session back but he really does not appear to push himself during running sessions unlike some which I find disappointing.
