Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The bye after the NT game is one of the smartest things I've seen related to our club's fixturing in many a year. Something so obvious, simple and infurating that many of us have screamed out for over the years.

That's got PJ all over it, methinks. Well done, MFC/AFL!

Not really - the bye should be after our Darwin game not the Alice game. The Alice game shouldn't impact us any more than playing in Perth or Brisbane.

I'm guessing there's climate reasons that we play the Alice game pre-bye and the Darwin game a few months later? Temperatures or something?

The Darwin game is 15 July - as mid-winter as you can get. Perhaps it is also mid-dry season in Darwin and therefore expected to have the lowest humidity.

How did the Saints end up with 4 friday nights and only 4 six day breaks. I feel like every step of improvement we make the Saints are half a step ahead.

12 of their first 16 games at Etihad.

2 things annoy me with the fixture, which is actually pretty good, it is normally more than that.

1: We have two home games against big Vic clubs we don't normally get, Carlton and the Hawks. This is great but both are buried at 3:20 on a Sunday! It seems the AFl want to gather evidence that we don't deserve the spotlight because our crowds are too low. Which links nicely with:

2: We get a Friday night game, finally, but it isn't against a vic side so again our crowds will show to be lower than other Friday night games. Just more ammo for not given us them in future.

Oh well, we will just have to shove it up them all and prove them wrong!

I believe Geelong have 8 also.  The very vhard stretch is the 3 in a row, all against sides that have longer breaks.  Apart from that it's a pretty good fixture.

First three rounds look challenging. All three are bogey sides and 2/3 on a bogey ground. We must start the season strongly (at absolute worst 1-2) as there's history says no coming back from 0-3.

2006 says otherwise :P

Very optimistic.

We lost to Essendon's Reserve Grade team and now you expect us to beat their A Grade side.

Adelaide, Hawks as Wins very interesting.

Freo with their stars back will be a top 8 side again. Not an automatic win like last year.

All depends on injuries and our development of younger players but I see an 11/11 or 12/10 win/loss ratio.

Many teams could realistically finish anywhere between 6 wins and 16 wins.

People severely understate how competitive and tight the league currently is.

There are very few genuinely "weak" teams aside from Brisbane. We are still comfortably in that mid-tier where we could win anywhere between 6 and 12 games and finish anywhere between 6th and 16th. There are many other teams that fit into this bracket (including last year's premier's, and last year's wooden spooners).

Trying to pick who we were going to beat is just silly. Take every week, one week at a time. Let's start with round 1 against the 'Aints at Etiherpes stadium.

Agreed.

I think 11 or 12 wins are very gettable and I wouldn't be surprised if we won 15, but there are a number of games that could go either way.

Look, we are never going to get the best draw because we aren't one of the big clubs.

Considering the absolute shizen they've handed us for the last 10 years, we need to be happy with what we've received this year.

If we seriously want to play finals and be a contender, we need to learn to win at Etihad, win off 6 day breaks, and beat sides we haven't been able to beat in years. This is all part of becoming a good team.

Considering that we avoid playing twice teams like Hawks, Geelong, Sydney, GWS, WCE & Dogs, is already a massive bonus. If we can't beat mediocre teams like North, St Kilda, Carlton and Collingwood, than the draw makes no difference and we are never going to be any good anyway.

Commercially this is a good fixture, it allows us to get maximum exposure early on, get some wins, increase membership numbers etc. We got 2 big games, 1 Friday night against a good opponent, and some home games against big clubs.

Yes we have a hard stretch there in the middle with 3 short 6 day breaks including a trip to Perth, and 3 tough opponents.

At least we start and finish the year off with a good draw!

I have a feeling by the end of the season the Hawks and Geelong will be thankful they didn't play us twice.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
