I actually read the whole story and caught the facts, rather than jump on the internet with my knee jerk reaction.

I wouldn't blame Beveridge or the players, but overly keen and poor organisation by the club. Just silly to have such an event a few days after the game.  To bag the coach or the players after that incredible match is unreasonable.  Just an overly enthusiastic club administration who did not think it through.

Really poor planning by the club - starting with the 'hands on 'president. 

Dont think you can hang it on Beveridge -and I'm not sure you can hang it on the players - who probably didn't know that Mad Monday was supposed to be mad enough to take in Ballarat. 

Reckon Gordon's got to fork out a few sheckles to take them up their to give out enough memorabilia to fill Lake Wendouree!

As I have said in other places on this board the only loyal suckers at a footy club are the fans. It's time some of the prima donnas were reminded who contributes to their paycheck.

 

Average form by the Dogs players. The AFL and the clubs under its banner like to use certain populations in order to exist as clubs. The residents of Ballarat have given to the Bulldogs. They have ensured the Bulldogs remain an AFL club. Now the time comes for the Bulldogs to show their appreciation to the residents of Ballarat, and the Bulldogs prefer to spend their night at the pub. It is beyond poor form.

I heard Gordon interviewed this morning and when he was asked about the visit to Ballarat today, said, "is it today or tomorrow?".

It definitely was a stuff up, and embarrassing for the 'dogs, but I don't reckon Gordon was to blame. The interesting thing is how many supporters they have in Ballarat. They have only signed an arrangement a couple of years ago and before that the Kangaroos were associated with the town.

It was all just a little miscommunication unfortunately.

Gordon's secretary was asked to arrange a get together for the Ballarat folk to catch up with their premiership heroes of 2016. Imagine their surprise when Gil and the entire AFL umpires department took the stage. I hope they were given a mighty cheer nonetheless.

The players get a pass. They won the club's first flag in 60 years and probably won one of the most memorable fairytale flags ever. Club's fault and probably should have pushed back Mad Monday a day, but really, it's not the end of the word. And let's not pretend like most diehard Dogs fans in Ballarat wouldn't have been in Melbourne for the celebrations anyway.

Much as I hate hawthorn they have got it right re their taking the cup to Launceston very soon after the GF.

Maybe the Doggies hadn't thought this through as, unlike Hawthorn, they may not have known they were going to win thus failed to plan properly.

I popped in cause i could hear the noise from the Uni, where i work. There were about 1000 odd fans and a small part of Sturt St. blocked off, and a lot of media trucks. Chris Grant seemed to be doing much of the talking and a bit by Bev. who couldnt stop smiling and chatting to anyone. They must have played the song 10 or so times, but it was nothing without the players and people seemed a bit disappointed. At the end they passed The Cup around, and yes i touched it, but only the red and blue ribbons....

I opened this thread because I was aghast at the treatment of loyal and long suffering fans.

Now before I get howled down , let me say I agree with those several posters who point out it was a thoughtless/stupid bit of timetabling on someone at the club's behalf.

However, I reiterate, That once a commitment has been made it must be honoured.

It is fans, and more so members, who underpin sport. Unfortunately the distance between those people and the players (their heroes) is increasing. Some of this is due to the sad realities of the modern world. However, to ignore a rare opportunity to actually share a unique moment with the "little people" is both selfish and disrespectful.
