Don't think those GWS boys were thinking "oh well, we're just a franchise".

Brisbane, Adelaide and West Coast were all clubs created out of thin air in the same way GWS and GCS were, but I don't see anyone wailing about the success they've had.  The vitriol towards GWS is based on nothing but envy and I reckon it's childish.

They should have a little finals pain first. Like every other club has.

First team to make the GF from outside the top 4.

Also the first Victorian team to win two interstate finals in the same year.

Also the first year neither team who won the QF and had the week off made the GF. Whether that's a coincidence with the Round 23 bye) or not will be debated, I'm sure.

We will definitely need a bigger sample size. Keep the bye for another year or two for more of the emerging clubs... And science :]

Great result. Cannot believe how loud I was getting riding the Doggies home. I love the Swannies, but will be barracking loud for a Doggies win next weekend. At last, a GF with someone to really barrack for.

And I am so relieved Scully is not playing in a GF. Seeing him moutning off, getting loose balls on the outside, and palying for that horrible synthetic GWS.

Gee whiz I feel for Bob Murphy.

In the AFL system for so long and in the year he's recovering from a knee injury, whilst Captain, the Dogs make the GF.

Must be mixed feelings like I couldn't understand.

I'm in Japan right now so am not watching the game on the telly - either there was a heart wrenching interview with Bob, ir you've just shown yourself to be an incredibly compassionate man Steve. A credit to you.

please take note however that you're in a distinct minority in DL and you'll get found out at some point...

Great post. I also don't get the whole having to support another Melbourne team in the GF. Sydney all the way for me. From there originally and cannot stand the media carry on about the Dogs injuries - every team has them FFS. You would think they have only 22 fit players on their list. 25 if you include the umpires.

He's the king of cheap balls out the back and idiotic kicks to no one down the corridor. I don't know why the media fawn over him.

Amazing resilience by the dogs. Twice they looked like getting rolled over in the second half. They found something when dog tired to snuff out the GWS running machine.

Gotta love the Doggies.

Personally I think we've got a long way to go to matching them. Sure they didn't win every week in 2016 but one thing they did give every week was 100% effort. No way this mob would have dropped games against Essendon, Carlton the way we did. They are a credit to themselves. We have a lot to learn from them.

Yes we do. A long way behind

in the head.

I'm not sure that objecting to a grossly unequal system is 'envy'.

It had to be unequal unless the AFL wanted to create a team that was uncompetitive for a decade.  Even with the concessions, they wouldn't be where they are without being well-run, though, and that's what everyone is envious about.

GW$ were created for TV ratings

They have been given every advantage

Maybe if you played and invented Trugo during your work break , then had it stolen by others and syndicated you would get the idea.Maybe you are from a generation that sees corporate control as the norm.

I love the Swannies too but I'll be barracking for the Dogs next week, something I never thought I'd do after being persecuted in Sunshine for following the Demons from the 1958 Grand Final loss instead of the Bulldogs.

To an extent I agree, but some of the concessions require examination now before Frankenstein gets out of control, e.g. discounts on academy selections, Riverina zone etc.

But this is the Dogs' moment and they've just parked that debate until next year. Would be an unbelievable achievement if they can go one step further.

I hate the way GWS have 'Thugged' their way. It reeks of old school Sheedy thuggery and concomitant atrocities and I'm proud that the Dogs withstood it and won. Get Thugged, Mumford and co, you are a bunch of troglodyte morons.

Yep, was on the treadmill watching their tactics in the first quarter and my blood was boiling. Clearly going out of their way to take Dogs players out of the game.

Great to see it fail in the long run.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
