Finding 'cultural similarities' between current and previous generations of MFC teams is an easy trap to fall into, but it's based on a narrative that only a supporter can sustain.

Bartlett, Goodwin, the players - none of them know or remember when Essendon came back from 47 points down to beat us at the 'G, or the time we lost to Sydney when they hadn't won a game all year. These memories live on only in the minds of the fans; they can't be passed down from one generation of MFC personnel to the next when the board, admin and playing group are constantly changing and evolving.

This is especially the case in the modern era, with clubs no longer made up of former players and staff. Look at Hawthorn - they have more ex-MFC people on staff than we do, yet haven't become infected with the MFC cultural syndrome or whatever you want to call it.

Then the players better eradicate what's  caused the Essendon/Carlton losses and  turning what should have been a clebration of Roos's tenure final game  into a shambles.   It is not something new, these kind of outrages have been happening consistently for a long time. WC despite their recent ladder success have had a reputation of being downhill skiers and the comparison with us is not lost on many supporters who have been around a while.

I wondering why the demons cannot seem to play with the same level of commitment passion and self belief of the bulldogs

It must be cultural

What a fantastic game of football well coached, well executed and when they had them on the ropes they pressed on and smashed them

I am hoping the demons can achieve that level next season but we still have our unique culture to deal with

I've made similar points for years, but according to some on here it's too much to expect a team to come switched on for 22 games a year. Youth isn't the answer/excuse, you nailed it with "cultural".

When discussing the Rising Star, many on here talked about how the likes of Oliver and Petracca have a higher ceiling than Daniel. If either of them can reach the level that Daniel displayed last night, I would be rapt. He may not make the highlights reel often, but jeez he'll be good for a long time.

Daniel is  pure footballer in the Sam Mitchell mode.

And being vertically challenged, how many clubs would have looked at him, Not too many I reckon!

Good footballers can come in a variety of sizes and Daniel is proof.

I was wrong. I was wrong about Tom Boyd. He may look like a Wall Street stockbroker in waiting but he played with passion, grunt and skill last night.

Spot on Bombay. The Dogs could have fallen over last night with all the injuries they have sustained this year and nobody would have given them a hard time.

But they refused to be Beaten last night to a man from the first bounce.

For the MFC FOotball Department to say "we were cooked" after Round 21 is a cop out that has lived within our walls since i have been a supporter.

The Dogs were sensational last night. Good on them.

Their rebound off Half Back was relentless

study that game Goodwin. Every frame.

And I agree with others regarding the rising star. Very hard to see how Daniels missed out. For mine the bloke's just an exceptional talent.

Probably says a fair bit about Beveridge to be honest.

Mixed emotions seeing Roosy on Fox Footy doing the pre-game.

He's too good for those knuckle heads.

And he just referred to MFC as 'us'

I had to go to bed at half time last night so missed the 2nd half but the bulldogs were just awesome and Bont will be a Kouta type gun where he can play that tall midfield/forward. Just rapt to see them win like that.

Cannot wait for tonights game. Its going to be huge.

According to Stevo, Goodwin was in the crowd last night. Said on his twitter doing some early scouting. Maybe he is looking at some players to recruit.

100% agree.

If only we could adopt the same culture as that team who's won one flag in it's existence and hasn't made a grand final since 1961......

Selwood and Hodge going head to head... Nice.

Hawks look old, but they looked old last year. Think Cats have them here.

Pretty bad game so far, lots of people but no atmosphere. No decent play so far. Maybe a Puopolo and Hawkins mark but not much else. I know its said a lot but it actually genuinely feels like a game between two entitled brats. Boring

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
