Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Ahhh gotcha, I thought he'd finished his contract and retired. Wasn't there a rule brought in about players retiring to change clubs? Surely this would be part of that somehow?

Apparently they checked for AFL approval before making the move. But they could have asked for anything and the AFL would have said yes

ANB and our 1st round pick next season should get it done

What would his pay check be though? I can see he's on 500k fantasy price. He has comparable stats to Rockliff, but if you consider he's 4 years younger he has a huge upside. I suppose Rockliff/Wines would command 600k+ each to be lured?

Interesting that that swap of picks with the Lions now means that GWS have 8 picks going in to the draft. They may well do more trading to reduce this. But the new rule clearly states a club cannot trade and end up with more picks than vacancies on their list. This was to stop the stockpiling of cheap, later picks to use on academy players. And don't GWS have to reduce the number of players on their list next year by 2?

Bit of a gamble, but there might be a GWS give away or fire sale of picks/players with a day to go in the trade period.

GWS have been negotiating trades for Marchbank, Pickett, Hoskin-Elliot, Steele, Stewart, Ahern, Barrett - I don't think list spots is going to be an issue,

Is anyone else amused by the amount of rules and intricacies there are to draft and trade these days?

Priority picks, father sons, academies, concessions, zones, points, trading of future picks, restricted and unrestricted free agency, compensation, PSD....you could write a thesis on it.

That leaves Brisbane with pick 21 then a gap to pick 78?  And they have to get their Frost deal done.  Does not look promising for getting any meaningful Dunn deal dunn.

Unless a player is involved coming to us.

A) Because we have too many 'inside strong' mids of his type with very similar attributes

B) Because history suggests that you need attribute diversity and a good mix within your midfield group and  to give yourself the best chance of sustained finals success and ultimately winning a grand final. Proof being Hawthorn and the Dogs this year.

C) If we're forecasting our chances of winning a flag over the next 3-5 years, look at the teams who we will most likely be competing against. GWS and the Dogs. Both teams are made for modern footy and have a much better balance of running power, skill-level and inside game.

Oli Wines is a player we do not need at this stage of our list development.

You should see what goes on in US sports.

For example, someone traded a player in the NHL for a 3rd round pick, however part of the agreement was that if said player scores more than 15 goals they get the 2nd round pick.

Imagine including those types of clauses- we trade a future 2nd rounder for Hibberd, however if he averages over 20 touches it turns into a first.

The media seems to be running the line 'poor Collingwood' as the comp picks the AFL have given out make it harder for Coll to get its father/son picks (Brown and Daicos) as those comp picks have reduced the draft points their picks now attract.

Hello, it is the ridiculously generous offers that Collingwood gave Wells and Mayne that caused the AFL comp picks to be so high.

They only have themselves to blame!  Sheesh!

Haha, good point. I still think clubs being bumped down the draft order as a result of compo picks should retain the points their original picks were worth. As it stands the clubs below are being penalised too much.

I was under the impression that we cannot trade our 2017 first round pick this year because we traded our 2016 first round pick last year. If this is the case, it is pointless to keep talking about trading it.

What is with everyone claiming that we'll just use next years 1st rounder for a player?

We can't use it without special allowance from the AFL as we already used this year's first pick last year. Can't do it 2 years in a row without permission.

I thought we could providing we used 2 first round picks in a four year period, and given we used 2 in 2015 we should be fine to move that one on?

I thought the same but just checked the rules and you only have to pick twice in 4 years.

Was wrong on my previous post.

I don't trust the AFL, they make up rules on a whim. I would want it in writing from them that you can count a first round pick more than once in a year.

So, when does Wines announce that he wants to be traded to Hawthorn or Geelong?

Interesting. I haven't heard a whole lot about his character. I can understand him wanting out of Brisbane given how terrible they are doing and it also sounds like they are suffering from exactly what we had in previous years, bad management. But if he is a [censored] then yes I wouldn't be as keen to get him, as you say Roos and co have worked very hard to build a team of guys that are all pulling in the same direction. If bringing him would take mean our culture takes a backward step than yes I would agree that we shouldn't chase him.

I should add though many would argue Jeffy would've fallen into that same category and we got him to buy into our direction and changing culture, so if Goodwin and Viney see the same sort of intent from Tom we shouldn't rule him out.

I don't think Jeffy has bought fully in.

Rocliff maybe just inexperienced in what leadership is?   He can learn.  He is definitely worth thinking about, but not for a 1st Rnd pick.   As redleg said,  a trade & a pick.

Find it odd we are not going after Rockliff over say Hibberd, our 2nd round and Dunn might get it done

I cant tell if you are undervaluing Rockliff or severely overvaluing Dunn but there is no way in hell that would happen. Dunn has next to no value as an old Defender who cant play modern zone footy, Rockliff is an All Australian midfielder (despite playing in a [censored] team) and a club captain.

People have to realise you have to pay closer to the value of the player to the club he is leaving than the value to the club he is moving to. Rockliff is worth far more to Brisbane than he is to us. Thats why Hawthorn so frquently pays overs for the players they want. If Melbourne wanted Rockliff they would have to pay well overs to get him.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
