You improve your depth by bringing in better players gor your senior side. This forces players with AFL experience to drop down the pecking order. They are then challenged to improve and fight for their spot. This results in overall improvement of the list. Bringing in players who are not best 22 reduces competition for spots. That would be a bad thing.

I really think that a lot of that for us is going to come from internal development, when guys like Salem, Brayshaw, Oliver, Petracca start to impact game regularly we will be able to cover injuries better, and as the list/players develop that depth will improve even further, having played the VFL grand final this year i feel our depth is quite good, but we really are just going to dive hard into developing these guys as quickly as possible, another pre season and we could see big gains from this group, the rise could happen a lot quicker than some are expecting.

The feeling is that Chris Scott will get an extension, but not all are supportive.

As I keep saying, he'd be getting extended for his brilliant foresight in making sure Dangerfield was born in Geelong. Without him they'd have missed the finals again.

I think he's capable of managing the finished article, but as a young coach coming in, he developed zero skills in building and developing a list, because it had all been done for him. I think he's on borrowed time, as you do.

I wouldn't expect Wells' lieutenant Peake there at Simonds for much longer either. Firmly on the outer. Was previously in charge at St Kilda, not that I think he did amazingly well or that we would have room for him.

This is a very (un)interesting topic, I read about the need for depth, etc etc. The bottom line is that this year time and time again the Bulldogs were decimated by injuries. Yet time and time again they replaced the injured players and kept on winning playing what has turned out to be a Premiership brand of AFL football.

What most intelligent coaches from the other 17 clubs should be working on is how they can replicate the formula ex-Demon Beveridge has brought to coaching. What the formula is I don't know because I ain't an AFL Coach. What I do know is that you can't keep replacing team failures and breakdowns with the same rusty time-proven failures like our club has. In other words, we get thrashed, we make changes and bring back Grimes, Tengrove, Mat Jones, McKenzie, Newton, Michie etc and expect that things will change.

Somehow Beveridge has been able to replace lost 'Guns' with players who perform.

That's the crux of our issue.

Also, please note that the Bullies are not that tall a side, in other words, they are able to negate the so-called Gun Forwards yet still giving away pounds of flesh and inches.

Beveridge has changed the landscape. We need to adapt...

To end, go figure, Freemantle thrashed them in the last round....

Bullies won the game in the midfield. No impact from Parker or Hannebery and Kennedy curtailed after half time. When the ball did get down there the only swans player that looked half a chance was buddy and hamling did all that was asked if him. I do agree with you. Very handy to have players come in that carry out their role

The Beveridge Formula is 1 Scoop when you can when you can crucially get away with it.

                                              2 Throw/guide the ball over your head (and practice this at training) so as the Field Umpire who attends training says that it's not a throw and he will allow it in Finals.

                                              3 In packs hit your apposing player as hard , and to any part of the body you wish, because you already know that its going to be play on in the GF.

                                             4 Hand in the new rules to the AFL and the Umpires Board, and tell them to make them, the rules, official for everyone else next season.

                                             And that is just the start.........

Why would we want another rookie key forward when we have Hogan and Weid, who are just 21 and 19 respectively..

We need Salem, his foot skills are first class and god knows we need all the skills we can get.

I'd be shocked if the club considered trading Salem, he's super highly rated internally, rated nearly as high as Viney and Hogan

A lot of good ideas in this plan. To be honest, a lot of the doggies " handballs" were legal. That scoop was a nice tactic. Who really cares if any of the original rules are applied any more ? That's not the point. The point is, is it entertaining, can the AFL make any more money out of the game and can we get one of our preferred clubs to win a flag, however that is achieved ? 

The bullies aren't a preferred club but I'll bet you 95% of non Sydney fans preferred them.

We are almost at the situation of there not being a lot of difference in the Codes, if the Two GF"s were taken as an example of the similarities in the attack.

Imagine a Code GF. Literally bring the house down...
