Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

The Hawks are going to fall off the cliff next year.. They have zero A grade mids on the list once Hodge, Mitchell, Lewis and Burgoyne retire.

Strange choice for O'Meara.

They are all going around again next year Stevie. Might not be next year. They will bring in O'Mera who what do you know (like Burgoyne) his knee will bounce back, maybe Mitchell, then next trade period bring in some others and keep on playing finals footy. They need a fwd, without Roughy they have not been the same team.

Sometimes you need to play the percentages and others you need to pull the trigger.

Must have a close look at him.

Why, how many times have you seen him play in the last 2 years?  Being a top draft pick doesn't necessarily equate to being an instant star, we as a club should know that

Hawthorn trade 2017 1st Round Pick & Schoenmakers to Sydney for Mitchell plus a 2nd or 3rd Round Pick in either draft.

Sadly I can see it happening.

Winning the Rising Star gives you an ok chance though...

If the Suns think he's worth two top 10 picks then i will be very interested to see what the Hawks think they have to give up for him.

How do they (the Hawks) do it. The trade blows ones mind but then you move to salary cap for a top team full of top grade players.

Amazing !!

Don't forget that, with Hawthorn's age profile, most of their older players cost them nothing in the salary cap. Like Geelong, they take advantage of the Veterans allowance, which allows a huge chunk of their wages to fall outside the salary cap. That means Mitchell, Hodge, Lewis, etc. cost them very little.

And as for them "falling off a cliff," unfortunately Geelong showed this year that you can prolong the inevitable by topping up with a few handy midfielders.

O'Meara is just as good as Dangerfield when fit, and far younger.

It's sad that it's come to this, but I have to agree. Hawthorn will still end up picking him up for pick ~13-15 or so, which is an absolute bargain if he ever gets healthy.

I think they will offer players to GC and a pick.

Hill is not worth pick 7; Freo will get McCartney now for next to nothing & Langford is not worth a first rounder (GCS want two for O'Meara); are the only issues I see here.

Sydney will want picks, not Schoenmakers, and Hawthorn's late first round pick is probably not low enough. Plus with O'Meara, I cannot see Hawthorn affording both.

I think I am almost at the stage of trading my life-long hatred of anything Carlton, with an emerging hatred for all things Hawthorn. I hope they fall off the cliff very hard very soon and they do a Richmond - no finals for 2 decades, or at least only losing ones.

Agree Hill is not worth Pick 7, that's why there would be another 1st Rounder coming with him.  Hawthorn have already said they want a 1st Round Pick & Freo have no 2nd Rounder to try and use.

Also agree Langford is not worth a 1st Round Pick, but a mature midfielder & Pick 7 is probably a lot closer to currency for O'Meara given he hasn't been on the park in 2 years.  Two top 10 picks is dreaming.

As for Sydney, they're desperate for tall defenders & a 1st Round Pick to go with him is what they would want one would think.

You know, the media will immediately say that happens because the Hawks players play for less. Oh and yes, I grew 3 feet taller yesterday and then flew around the back yard.

I am actually surprised that Hawthorn are into him, the due diligence on his injury recovery must be positive, they are not a team to take risks with recruiting    still wait and see though

They do take risks 'Sat', think Garlett...very much a risk that didn't pay off.

There were another couple but I can't remember names.

Not all they touch turns to gold.

I think they are punting now, at the end of an era and not a lot of currency apart from the destination factor.

They haven't been game enough to make the big calls, going for one more flag might have just tipped them over.

I don't see Mitchell (Sydney version) as a saviour of their midfield, to me he is a vanilla kick getter and not much more. O'Meara fit is a jet but as we've seen with Trenners, 2 years out is a big ask.

Hopefully out of it this Friday night, straight sets and then the on the slide.

I don't think there's any player that comes out and says where they want to go that's not already been in touch with the destination club to see if it can be done and if they're interested.

I just hope that GCS dig their heels in on O'Meara like GWS did with McCarthy.

Mind you, the PSD is a pointless tollgate for these players who state they will only play at their preferred destination club because preceeding clubs won't waste a pick on them.

The whole system is flawed.

They also traded for Shaun Burgoyne, who supposedly had bone on bone in his left knee.  His knee woes were well documented at the time.

Do you think a fair bit of mayonnaise was put on Burgoynes and possibly now JO'M knee troubles to assist in the negotiating?

Are you suggesting that the Hawks wouldn't play it straight down the line, be sneaky even?

Pretty sure the practice is rife amongst several clubs.

Hawks can have him. Injury is a serious concern. Not worth the risk IMO. Not only won't O'Meara be the player that he was before injury, but it is highly likely he will break down again (and because of this injury). If talks break down between GC and Hawthorn, I hope we don't entertain O'Meara. We don't need to take the risk.

It's all bluff, most players won't sit out a year or more if they don't like the club that drafted them.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
