I don't reckon this is a factor in selection - otherwise why would Matt Jones ever get a game?

Harmes works his backside off, he's tough as nails, and he's an above average contested mark.  I think so long as he is bringing those aspects, he'll be in.  As much as Harmes really does make me want to cry with his ball use, generally I think Roos accepts a few skill errors when the player is otherwise clearly doing most things right.

I'm yet to see a player dropped this year when they've turned it over a few times when they were otherwise good.  Don't reckon it will start this week.

Even if he didn't hit a target, which I doubt.  He deserves his spot for his mark in the middle of the ground.  It was brilliant

It's not his skills that are the issue, it's his decision making that's the issue and what really let him down today.

I don't think that lessens my point any.

Matt Jones and Chris Dawes should never ever ever get games again! I have been a Dawes fan for a long time, but he gave nothing today in a fat rat's clacker performance! Matt Jones would get a job as Chief Butcher at The Victoria Market!

Time to bring in WEEDS and Clarry CHOO CHOOO !

Harmes was good today

Can't defend & needs to improve ball use. I like him but and think he still has a lot of development left in him.

I think there's a bit of a difference here though, Nash. Harmes had 23 touches. If 21 of them go to the opposition, that's like having a 23rd opposition player. He does it week in, week out too.

I agree on those attributes you've list above. He is tough, he runs both ways (most of the time) and he's a good contested mark, but he's not good at the fundamentals of AFL football, such as kicking and handballing. He continues to try too many stab passes into extremely dangerous areas that rarely come off and other times he's simply just lazy or makes poor decisions.

Given he does get it as much as he does, there's point where you start to become a liability.

Bernie Vince looks cooked. I hate calling for his head but if he is hurt put him on ice and get him ready for 2017.

People calling for pedo to come in... I haven't seen him in the best at casey.  Think he kicked one on the weekend. I would prefer not to make changes unless form players are coming in

agree bern-eye should be dropped unless hurt. Something must be up with him. 5 touches at HT. So many bad touches. Worst game of his career

Mitchie for Harmes. Both have been playing off half-back.

Someone for Hogan if injured: Weideman (long bow there ...), if not, Pederson or, shudder, Dunn.

Kennedy or Oliver for mystery injury of the week.

Yes, but that's a totally unrealistic number.  I guarantee the number that went to the opposition was absolutely nowhere near 21.  More like 3 or 4.

It might not have been 21, but it certainly wasn't merely 3 or 4. He was horrible.

You're *this* close to making me watch the whole game again purely to account for every one of his possessions.  Please don't make me do it. :P

Haha, I wouldn't inflict that on you, mate. Let's agree to disagree. :D

There's a six day break before next week's game, we have a lot of tired players in need of a rest and a good few put their hands up at Casey yesterday.

Surely, there will be changes this week?

True to form, they'll make one token irrelevant change and we'll run out of legs in the first quarter.

If Hoges doesn't get up I'd like to see Hullett get a run before the Weed as I think he's done a bit more this season.

Cant drop Vince as he is still is one of our most important players but I'm sure he will get a solid talking to about minimum acceptable actions for next week.

Matt J genuinely spreads well and if he could kick he'd be a genuinely decent winger. But continually missing targets uncontested 25m away is unforgivable and he never hits the scoreboard. At his age it's not going to click now. He's given his all but for the rest of the season is rather see if Kennedy or Neal-Bullen can play that role.

completely agree. good points deeko. not sure why everyone is suddenly pushing for weed, hulett has been a more imposing figure for the past month or two.. fickle. funny..ha.

Bernie has been playing sore for a few weeks now, do we rest him against the Hawks?

Maybe freshen him up for the last few...

Cam Pedersen 1 goal 4 behinds 21 disposals 11 kicks 10 handballs 7 marks 13 tackles 16 hit outs 153 dream team points

Not a bad game I would have thought...will be pushing for selection this week.

Harmes went at 69.9% disposal efficiency. So that would be 7 out of 23 that weren't efficient.

Sevens closer to 3 or 4 then 21....

I reckon if we're going to RJAY it'll be this week

games against Port, Blues and Cats i reckon will be seen as very winnable ( i say cats because we beat them last year and we seem to be good at beating the sides we've beaten and they're pretty inconsistent )

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
