Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

The ball use of Harmes today gives plenty of hope that he could become the polished ball user we are lacking in the back half.

Really? I must have completely missed that. His first half was horrible.

Hopefully it will sting the players as much as us and they'll take that venom, learn and grow meaner as a result.

Maxy certainly looked annoyed in the last and I reckon a few of them will be feeling it.

We played better football all day.

The missed shots were the issue as the score shows.

The umpiring in that last quarter needs a review by the AFL.

The meth coast just raise their arms when they want a free.we never do.

I am trying to be philosophical about this one but I don't think we could have played much better.

The one against Gawn, the deliberate, the 70 metre 50.the high one against Jones were not there to pay- they were crowd kicks.

I just hope that when we become dominant we never forget the sort of extra crap we had to do to get there.i want us to crush this scum next time.

Take your mine pit and form your own parochial shyte nation you rednecked backwards inbred westralian pigs.

Kent got cleaned up after kicking the ball in to our 50 as well in the last. should have been down field free.

we blew it in the 3rd with our kicking.

the umps put us to the sword in the last.

we played some breathtaking footy today at times and really applied some fantastic pressure for most of the game.

it was a great game of footy. fmd

The smother in the last was as good as it gets. The resulting missed shot was average by Dawes.

watts was huge in the last quarter.

Unbelievable repeat efforts.

Did a lot things right today but he'll be filthy on himself for missing that set shot in the third and the snap in the last. Those shots were bread and butter for Wattsy.

Had to turn the tv off as soon as it was over. I am so over listening to the commentators basically saying, Melbounre played well but they did what we always knew they would do, LOSE.

Thought I would get thrown out of my hotel room account noise and language.

Bring on next week.

I'm sure if you keep paying Biff the usual 'rent' then he won't throw you out of the Gat for a simple misunderstanding about noise, broken remotes, windows, etc.

Should've won given the lop-sided stats, but apparently the score was the score and in an alternative reality we might've won. But we shouldn't have won because we lost....

Moonie, you sure you haven't had a recent visit from Ben Cousins?

Very much a heartbreaking loss.  No doubt about it.  I think the match winners are, potentially, there with more game time.  Petracca does some fantastic things.  Viney never gives in.  Gus is playing his best footy of the year, and we are a better side with him there.  We know Hogan can kick multiple goals and, like the others, as he gets older he will know how to do it more often.

It's a hard pill to swallow, but it's fact.

Our game plan doesn't help us win close ones. Too much handball which means we overuse the ball and increase the odds of intercepts, turnovers, plain mistakes etc. we also move the ball into the corridor in our back half and using too much handball means if there is a turnover we get screwed. We are not fast nor overly skilled, so we need to use the ball by foot a lot more.

I think you're right about the game plan as it stands.  However, you would hope that as they get older and more games into the legs they would be able to assess these situations a little better - such as getting the ball forward a little quicker, hitting that target under pressure and kicking key goals that give us the breathing room.

Our side at the moment lacks in those areas, but with more experience that should get better.

I was hopeful of that after the Essendon loss. Hasn't really sunk in. Let's hope it does after this week.

WHY DO WE FUCKEN SLIP OVER SO MUCH?

no other teams slip over as much as we do ffs.

Cos it was wet?

Come on man, did you only see Melbourne players out there?  West Coast were the slip over, fumble the ball, turn it over kings.  Top 8 side, apparently.

Wet game, olisik moans about about players slipping over.  FMD.

We should've won by 5 goals- whatever that was it wasn't spiritless.

What is it then, if not spirit. There was a win for the taking today. Real teams find that way to do it. They grind until the cogs line up ( eventually) andyou can change up and get over the libelibe by sheer force of will.

We didn't. Never seem to. We do indeed have a problem with spiri, or call it whatever you like.

I nominate skills, on field leadership, umpiring and game plan. The spirit was there today, skills were wanting at times, our game plan is a negative under pressure, the umps didn't help and we don't have top shelf leadership.

A lot of the posters saying we are hopeless and spiritless also said we would get belted this week. It's amazing they can be so confident with their opinion given that it would seem that they may not know what they're talking about ;).

"ooohh yes we tried so hard and it was in Perth and the umpires were against us and we are so young" ........ FMD!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, which of those facts are you disputing?

It sucked, it hurt, and we should have won.  We couldn't capitalise with our dominance of the ball, or our huge number of f50 entries relative to theirs. I know all that, and it burned.  I had an hour trip home after the game and I seethed the entire way.  My heart still starts thumping again just thinking about it.  But the last quarter was a slog, and we were unable to outslog a team better and more experienced than us, on their own poo pile.  We're young, we tried hard, and it was in Perth - you can be sick of hearing it all you want, it doesn't stop it from being fact, and significant factors in the loss.

Our Young brigade fills me with hope, however unless we can recruit some senior guys who have killer instinct, brains and skills we will lose these close games.  Leadership again missing when we needed it.

Having said all that, we came within a bees dick of beating that mongrel of a team.  Their supporters have had it good for too long.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
