FAREWELL MATT JONES

Recommended Posts

Made another couple of awful mistakes though.  Again highlighted that he isn't the future, but he probably is the present.

He'll play next week.  Any rotating of players will come from the young group who will be stuffed after that.

I personally wouldn't go that far.

Tonight just backed it up. Personally think Bugg has been disappointing. His disposal by foot is far worse then Grimes.

I don't see him in the long term future at the club but he's ok depth as long as he plays a role when he comes in. He's just an average player in my opinion so we should have guys knocking him out of the team long term.

Ran on to his left foot and hit the hulk with a lovely 40 m left foot kick.Goal assist.

That took 5 years to do.

Tyson has no opposite foot but Conolly named him as BOG.

I missed the first half due to afl inadequacy but didn't see Tyson dominate the second.

Clearly the sooner Oliver, Brayshaw and Salem come into the team at the expense of blokes like this the better.

The guys that still make those 1 or 2 clangers a game will be out when we are humming.

JKH was going well but kept repeating errors.

Jones fumbles cost him when the talented youth are fit and ready.

Matty has been selected to play every game for which he has been fit for this year.

Just because Bugg was omitted this week is no reason to compare them; they are not easily interchangeable as they play quite different roles.  Bugg is our Hayden Balllantyne - be a pest, rough them up, get in their face and generally make life hard for the op player.  Requires sacrificing his own game.  Matt plays a more attacking/link man role.

It is not either/or as they both have a role and Buggs selection will sometimes depend on match-ups.

Must have been someone else in No.12 I saw kick right foot 40 metres down the wing to Jack Watts then.

I would agree that he has moved up the list of discards with his efforts this year, and at times I have actually been pleasantly surprised. But, anyone thinking that he only needs to eradicate the brain fade moments from his game in order to be a regular, should take a breath.

He has been around far too long for that to happen. "Smarts" are not a skill that can be taught, by even the greatest coaches. It's either there, as in the case of Oliver, or it isn't.

If that was true Jetta would have been delisted a few years ago. He was taught how to play smart and now is among the best defenders going around. I dont think matt will be among the best wing men but he has improved immensely this year

Really disrespectful and harsh comment. We will be a better team when we  have our young guns back but no need to speak so poorly of others. Players like Matt J and Jack G deserved their spot and played exceptionally well. They should be congratulated.

The depth in our young squad will see Matt out, he is really not up to it in comparison to Brayshaw, Oliver etc.  His 360 turn away from our goals and kicking it to opposition was an embarrassment, his running out of the backline with no pressure last week and turning it over on a bounce was bad. Not one of future players. He will be gone.

So you fully expect both Brayshaw and Oliver to have clanger free games, setting the bar a bit high there?

360 would put him back facing the way he was by the way

My BAD  180

Love Matt ,  he always give best , but he will be left behind, once Salem, Brayshaw, Oliver become standard ins.

My favourite part of Demonland, the assumptions about players, yes agreed all 3 have shown promise, and as long as they continue the promise they should give themselves a chance of being regulars, same as Matt Jones is doing now

Not at all, just shows a much higher regard for the ability of Salem, Oliver and Brayshaw, which I wholeheartedly share.

Appreciate his efforts, but M Jones and Grimes likewise have obvious limitations that will see the aforementioned three youngsters supersede them sooner rather than later, thankfully.

Supporters should never be asked to apologise for being excited at having better options waiting in the wings, for wanting players in the side that are more likely to bring success.

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
