I am thinking a shredder, microwave & incinerator service for $20 per card including a free abusive email to the Richmond director of your choice. What do you think?

Not bad, maybe add in the Melbourne membership form, we could end up with 50000+ members by round 5.

Sorry H disagree. I think the club is duty bound to get him to 100 games if he is anywhere near the required AFL level (which he is) and believe there is still a place for this sort of approach in the game.

Footy will never be just business and it simply cannot be forgotten what he has given to this club. They'll get him those two games and i will be proud of the club when they do.

Jack Grimes is a very popular and very well respected player at the club. The newer players, and also the few still around after 186 would expect the club administration to have a "human face". I know it's a different situation but the treatment of James McDonald comes to mind. Grimes like McDonald is a former captain of the club and his inclusion in the team would be welcomed by the players. And from reports, his form demands it.

I am staggered, given the conditions today, that Grimes wasn't played. A hard experienced body would have been a plus.

Fully agree.  Paul Roos has done a fantastic job but him & the Brains Trust have made some dreadful selection blunders in the past 2 years.  A couple of big bodied experienced players should have been brought in for todays game and Grimes should be in for sure.

Lets hope we don't have a repeat of the Port game where Roos admits afterwards that they lost the match at the selection table.

It's pretty clear that there is a core of about 24 or 25 players that they want to play at all costs.

They are never going to come out and say we are sacrificing games to give Goodwin the best handover possible, but that's clearly what is going on.

I know you're a fairly astute poster and I'd imagine you get to see your fair share of games and players.

Yet in what world is Grimes an experienced hardened body? I stood next to him while talking to another player at the Brisbane match, and I'm absolutely shocked at how small he is. This other player is no monster either, but grimes made even he look bigger.

The 2 flaws in Grimes that have been around for eternity, his disposal, and his strength over the ball. His competitiveness surely can't be question, but his lack of strength in the contest does.

If Good guys were given games, Grimes would go down a 300 gamer. I do hope he gets a chance soon to reward his vfl form, but I don't agree he is a hardened body.

You don't think a 27 year old, 98 game, ex captain, of 187cms, is an experienced hardened body, when compared to 5 game youngsters, well we shall agree to differ. BTW, if 187cns is small, I wish I was that small.

Spot on. He has never been strong over the ball, gets bumped out of the way far too easily

he played 98 games for the club he barracked for

he is a lucky boy, but i don't think he is going to play anymore.

Look I love Grimes, ripper bloke. I'm about 191cm so maybe I'm being harsh. But if you think he would come in today and make a significant difference in the conditions, then yes we shall agree to differ. He isn't a "big" 187cm, hardened body, he's never been a great contested player. If he was, he would have been picked in any of our previous 12 games prior to today

How do you think he would have gone playing as a defensive forward on the unopposed McVeigh. Might have made a small difference.

Maybe. We have several players who could but haven't though.

I understand playing for the future but IMO you don't ignore the present. You man up McVeigh. You tell the players what wet weather footy requires.  Poor selection is also poor coaching.

Anyway I thought we had no chance once I heard the weather forecast.

If it wasn't McVeigh who was mopping up it would be jack, or parker, or Kennedy. I understand what you're saying, I just don't think Grimes comes in and makes a difference in this game or others.

Grimes deserved a game in these conditions. Him not getting a game this week to me says that he's done at Melbourne.

He was offered up at trade week free to a good home and there were no takers, he was finished last season

Interesting to note that Grimes' last three games in a Melbourne jumper, Rounds 21-23 last year, saw him averaging 24 disposals, 4 tackles and a goal per game.

Shush, people will hear you.

Grimes is my personal favourite, so it grieves me to say it, but the fact that Jack was not taken to Sydney tells me that his card is marked.

"His card is marked" is one thing.

Not being allowed a chance to redeem himself is another level altogether.

Of course he is a hardened body. You don't have to be 'big' to have a hardened body.

Laughable. Absolutely Laughable. Unless something has changed since I last watched him (8 weeks) as well as spoke to him, he is a lean, slightly built player. Doesn't matter if he is 5 foot or 6 foot, he is not hardened, never has been and never will be.

What exactly is a 'hardened body' in the AFL? One of those terms that gets used a bit. Is it because he's no longer young and has played 98 games?

I've always thought Grimes tended to be pushed off the ball too easily and not one to stand up in a tackle. IMO he plays HBF because he's not strong enough for the midfield and has poor disposal under pressure (or not). I look at the midfields of top 6 teams and he'd be undersized in nearly every one, especially for a mature footballer. If he had fantastic skills by hand/foot, was super quick or had another outstanding skill he could be excused for not having big physical strength and getting pushed off the ball. His limitations are why he's not getting regular games. Having said that, is a handy mark for his size.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
