It appears to me he doesnt do anything well now and  needs a few years development.It is a  bad selection.Let him learn at Casey if he has that much potential. Watched him at Traeger Park. Just appalling skills and hasn't a competetive bone in his body. So yeah i will continue to criticise OK? Oh and Rawlings is coaching possibly the most disfunctional back line in the AFL. His comments arent credible at the moment.

Wanted 5 changes so happy on that front.  Roos has clear bias to both Dawes and Vandenberg and they need to see if a fit Dawes can offer anything.  Pederse unlucky.   The Frost inclusion baffles me the most as it flies in the face of the "solid block of form at Casey" mantra.  Absent some other explanation or imperative for team balance, the resentment seeds get sown with selections like this.   Omac staying in the team astounds me....and it would astound Pedersen, Dunn and Grimes too......

Dawes will apply a lot more defensive pressure than Pedersen. So if Dawes can finally, consistently, mark the ball... He's a big upgrade.

Who knows how these inclusions will perform, but the worrying thing is that Roos has completely contradicted his mantra that form is the primary factor to guaranteeing a game. As such, Vandenberg and Frost have no form to justify their inclusion. I get that they're big and physical, but that's another thing entirely. Dawes, Trenners and Oliver I get, but there's a lack of consistency in selection policy at the moment that reeks of panic. Whether it works or not.....

I don't think that's entirely the case.  Sometimes you need to select side based on the opposition you're playing - the Hawks have bigger bodies all over the field and, as we found out last weekend, a lack of these can hurt your performance.  Every one of the players selected this week brings in a more mature body that will be able to match it with the Hawks.  You're right in saying that neither VDB or Frost have been in the kind of form that would warrant selection, but I think the need for them this week against seriously good opposition superseded their current form.

We'll know in a day and half's time if it was the right move or the wrong one.

Form at Casey, or total form including training?  We do not get to see everything that goes on, and are not privy to their process.  Maybe form means different things in different roles, and VDB is the best Viney replacement available, for example?

Do you set the bar really low to avoid disappointment or something?  If we play like we did in those other games, we are a red hot chance to knock them off.  Hawthorn of 2016 are not the unbeatable juggernaut they have been in previous years.

Pretty sure he said just that. As I said, I understand the reason for the inclusions, but we shouldn't expect much from either Frost or Vandenberg, although Frost down back is an interesting proposition. Vandenberg I get for the physical pressure, but his actual ball work has been underwhelming thus far in his career, particularly considering he was brought to the club on the back of a high possession game. And if that's not the role they're looking for him to play then ok, but so far he's a fringe player with a big body and a great tackle. If I'm being kind, maybe this week shows they're being adaptable with selection. All will be revealed.

he has not done that in 3+ years at the club.

can you explain why he will do that now?

If you have a look at the stats we average:

- More contested & uncontested possessions.

- Equal in clearances. 

- More points per game

- More inside 50's

On top of this we have a greater average age & our average games  is up to 51 from 33 last week.

I said it earlier in the week I've thought for a few weeks we'll knock off the Hawks once this year. For some reason I have a feeling about tomorrow & don't under estimate the impact Trengoves inclusion will have from a moral point. We'll be in this game right up until the end. It's time we gave the Hawks a real contest.

I am not sure I have seen bashing so much as the call to let him learn the game at Casey. He is IMO not up to it at present. I get that the footy dept need to get games into players and maybe looking at the long term but it may also stifle his development by playing him now. 

Your last sentence is what we are all saying. Except some want him to do it at Casey.

Well, it is a much better balanced side than previous weeks, but the personnel is as ordinary as ever. Roos' love for Dawes is difficult to fathom, Frost and McDonald are unproven, Vandenberg has no form or match fitness, and both Kent and Harmes are extremely lucky to retain their spots.

I'd love to know if Roos has flat out told Grimes (and Terlich for that matter) that he won't be selected this year, or if he is just stringing him out with lame excuses. How Newton, Vandenberg and Michie have jumped Grimes in the queue is baffling. I can't wait until Lumumba comes straight back into the senior team after 8 weeks with no time at Casey as well.

Yeh fair enough.  I am more focused on people who say he doesn't have a competitive bone in his body and similar.  Junk comments directed at a kid.  I also think the level of focus is disproportionate and we should be showing more support.  Billy Stretch isn't ready either, but he is improving every week.

Our depth is improving, but I think we are not at the point yet where only seasoned and ready players get a gig.  Don't underestimate how much quicker you learn when you are playing with and against seniors.  If we waited for Gawn for example to be ready, there is no way he would have improved so quickly.
