Sooooo bitter sweet.  I cried like a baby and I was 30 at the time.  Poor Jimma............ but then I think of Simon Eishold, Ricky Jackson and Tony Campbell.............  ugh 

We forget, what a huge effort it was just to get there.  The present day players could take a leaf out their books written by blokes like Dean Chiron, Jamie Duursma, David Flintoff, Brett Bailey, Graeme Yeats and David Williams.  Honest doers, but not overly gifted

Great bloke off the field and genuinely held in high regard at his home town of Katandra.  Had the whole town behind him in his playing days.

Whilst I don't think they ever came into contact (physical bruising contact) in the heat of battle. Brereton looked sideways several times in Grinter's presence. 

I sort of always hoped they had crossed paths just to see what would happen.

One thing that should be remembered about Grinter was that he was an excellent kick. His foot disposal is comparable to Jack Watts both for field and goal kicking.

There were few players that would take him on man to man. He was also very resilient. He hit hard and even took hard hits better. He was the target of some huge hits and he always bounced up quickly. Not one to lie around groggy while getting his senses back.

I've only ever taken 1 'selfie'. Went to luncheon and saw Grinter and got 1 with him.

I'm saving my 2nd for Viney and the premiership cup.

I recall when I attended the "Summit" years ago now, speaking with your mate Chris Connolly over a cuppa, he pretty much described Rod Grinter who was also present in the room, exactly in this manner. And on this occassion, it was no joke.

The thread brings back fantastic memories.   He was a very very good footballer.  I didn't watch all of last night as I was too disappointed in Sheahan focusing unduly on the hits and failing to highlight some of the points made in this thread in terms of his kicking and marking skills.

I left the country in 1990 just as the writ was served (by Eugene Arocca no less - one more reason to hate Norf) and wasn't around to see things play out.   It wasn't clear on last night's program as to why the writ was served two years after the incident and nor why there was the loss of earnings element (given that Wallace was right to play the week after the incident).  Can anyone give me some colour and also on how the whole thing played out in terms of the decision to settle etc?

Need more like him in the current side.. Whilst you can't take players out these days you need aggression.. Look at hawthorn with  Hodge etc have this aggression ...

I liked the way he said how insanely fired up they were before a game and how motivational Northey was.  Another planet.
