Maybe it's not Hogans camp feeding the rumour mill but the MFC..?

Perhaps we know that a certain Freo Brownlow medalist is open to joining Melbourne this year if a trade can be done...

No he doesn't. He has a contract for 2017. He has every right to wait as long as he wants to make a decision (well at least until latish next year when his contract expires) - even if that annoys DL posters.

While that is true, I have great trust in the info from Chook in Perth, and if he says we have offered a 6 year deal that we expect an answer on soon, then I can see why everyone is getting antsy about it.

Would you prefer Fyfe or Hogan?

I would take Jesse every time, in their current situations.

I'd take Hogan.

My point is that the MFC are pulling more strings in this than is recognised, and will have all scenarios planned for... With solutions where we come out ahead.

Wishful thinking PaulRB imo, and not sure why you think that. What's it based on?

I would take Fyfe. Is the better talent, has the better results, and drives for higher standards. It isn't even close. If we did want Fyfe we would actually have to add to just trading Hogan. But there are no indications that Fyfe wants out of Fremantle.

Couple of things...

Goodwin said in his recent press conference along the lines of" seasons over now's time for Hogan to decide".

we managed the Frawley defection to our advantage collecting pick 3 as a result of asking AFL for priority pick and selling Frawleys versatility.

Fyfe was making noises a month ago then went silent.

Shrewd trading and thinking by Viney and Taylor over last couple of years...

Lots of reasons

Fair enough, but turns 25 tomorrow, and coming off his second broken leg. Hogan has a full career ahead of him.

Agree it would be exciting to see him in Dees colors, but if a Fyfe trade was the result of Hogan going to Freo, I can't see us adding to it.

Yeah ok, good reply.

Still think it's a bit o.t.t to think we are managing the narrative on this.

So you think a 20 year old and his manager are "out thinking" the experienced professional traders and thinkers at the MFC?! That seems unlikely.

Im not saying Hogan is gone, but that we now are requiring he decide now, and we'd only do that if we were OK with him going now, in fact have plans by which we would benefit from it.

Fyfe fits as a player by which we'd benefit.

Yes they are, no doubt, but do you really think we haven't offered our best offer already?

I'd personally be mildly surprised if we haven't, or at least gone very very close.

I accept that his father is ill and that he hasn't decided if he wants to go home or stay.

If that is the case we may not have even commenced negotiations.

I want to believe that this is not about money. At least not at this moment.

I agree that's it's unlikely to be about money, but I have little doubt that we have tabled an offer to him.

I can't see how we couldn't have tabled an offer to Hogan faulty. I do think however that it does (along with other things) have to do with money. I think our offer would have been realistic. I can imagine an offer from Fremantle being above and beyond and this is what stalled negotiations back in March.

What a circus this is becoming already.

This is not Jesse's fault as he is within his rights to wait until his current contact is finished before he makes a decision, however this will undoubtedly be a distraction for a young team looking to make finals for the first time in a decade.

If he is any kind of a team player and really does want to stay, then a contract must be signed this summer.

it's not a question of "out thinking" it's a question of which way the cards are stacked and which side has the better strategic position. if it is given he wants out for compassionate reason and this leaves us with a max of 2 possible clubs to negotiate with then we are not coming from a very strong position and have fewer options than if it was a normal open market stuation. i don't like our position if he decides to leave for compassionate reasons......ymmv

Hogan is significantly overrated on Demonland IMO. He is a good young player at the moment and his stats compare very favourably to other key forwards of his age. But he is nearly 100kg now and came into the league with enough strength to compete from the start of his career. Will he get better? Sure, but he is not too far off his prime IMO. He would need to become a bona fide star of the competition like Buddy to be worth paying 10% of the salary cap for. This is less likely than likely in my view and not the fait accompli that most on here believe.

While Hogan's strengths are very good, I think he has a number of weaknesses. Obviously his goal kicking is not great (although I think this can be improved). His lack of defensive effort to chase and tackle is my biggest concern and appears part of his mindset. He offers little when the ball hits the deck. He also doesn't have a great leap.

I also think that Games are won in the midfield and the big forwards are much less important than they once were. If he doesn't want to sign a reasonable contract prior to the trade period, I would be looking at offers to trade him this year.

I would be certain that we've tabled offers to him going back months and months.  My feeling is the longer this drags on for the more chance he is to go.

Bottom line is I think that the club will be pushing for an answer about his indications pretty bloody soon.

Can't see Fyfe leaving Freo.  Wouldn't mind Neal but his recently signed so can't see him leaving.  Interesting situation as Freo have pick 3, no first round pick available to trade next year at this stage and maybe not so many players players we'd be interested in.  WCE has pick 12 this year and a first round available next year (let's say about 12 again). They might have more players we'd be interested in such as Gaff, Shuey, Darling.

If he leaves can't see any chance of us coming out a head in a trade. His a potential Jon Brown.

Issue is for the club if we trade this year we will more than likely get a better result than if we wait till next years trade period.

Don't want to sound callous but I think Hoges unwittingly has in a sense invited us to view him as a commodity.

If he had signed or if he does sign we all sigh a collective sigh, go yay, post all our love and then get on with the business of bagging him every time he shows a bad attitude or goes his Fred Astaire run up with a twist and kicks it out on the full.

But due to the fact he hasn't signed and really if he was a committed player he would have signed we are "in stasis". So personally I don't care, just make a decision so we can all move on because people have to realise we are in a good position with this. His value has gone up enourmously so as long as we don't stuff up on a trade we should hopefully be in a similar position to if we had Hoges on board.

And given his hesitation to commit is his greatest flaw then again I don't care, Hoges I understand you have a personal issue but I don't see that the two issues need to be related, so sign up get on board and commit, ......or don't

Just make the $$$$$$$$$$$cking decision

I wholly disagree with you.

IMO he's criminally underrated.

He's 21 years old. The fact you say he's "not too far off his prime" is a perfect example of how, for Hogan, the goalposts are set markedly differently to all other young key position players.

Couldn't agree more Mac7. This is already becoming a circus. If he's still at the club next year with no contract extension signed it will become the biggest circus of all time.

We are a young side, the youngest side fielded in most rounds this year.  We don't need distractions such as this next year, we need stability and positivity.

Criminally underrated on Demonland? Really? A high proportion of posters think he will be one of the best handful of players in the competition.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
