I'd keep Hogan at all costs. He is our franchise player.

Not at all costs, but agree he's super important.

Fyfe for a 40 goal a year player with "potential" - I highly doubt anyone in their rational mind would trade Fyfe for that.

Well then they'll have to come up with something pretty bloody good, as Fyfe or Neale are the only players on their list who we would be interested in.

And John - Hogan has shown far more than just 'potential'.  He's easily one of, if not the, best young tall forward in the comp.  They don't grow on trees.

Minimum: Their first round pick and Lachie Neale this year as well as their first round pick next year in exchange for our second round pick of that year.

Neale was shite with a tag on him barely got it. Steak knives at best.

So one game cancels out the previous 10?  The bloke is a gun and you know it.  Viney has been tagged out of games this year, would you consider him steak knives at best?

Viney also can't break a tag yet. With more players shouldering the load, it means team's cannot afford to tag any one player. Neale alongside Prestia and Viney would be a small but amazing contested ball team with pace on the outside too.

No joke I read the lips of Hogan and a brisbane player after the siren with the camera close up - brissie player asked what are you doing next year ? Hogan - theyd better show me some money .

I hear freo are putting together a massive package to try seal the Hogan deal.

Its understood Mzungu, De Boar, Clancy Pearce and Zac Clark may all be in the mix. We'd have to throw in a sweetner to seal the deal.

Done deal for me if we can squeeze Jack Hannath in there as well....

So, 4 players not in their current best 22 for our best player? Remember, not in their best 22 when they are 2-not many

It would have to be 2, top 10 players on their list for our best.

Lets hope he signs over the bye weeks.

Let's throw in T.Mac if they're prepared to add Zac Dawson to the package. We need a quality user in our backline.

Interesting. On the Couch ask each weekly guest whether they'd pick Stringer or Hogan. I've only watched it some of the time but no one's picked Hogan since I've watched it. Hopefully this sort of feedback from the industry will temper any out of control demands. Assuming we will end up in contract negotiation mode.

The more I watch us improve the more I think Hogan staying is important. Him staying is a big statement about us being a destination club. If he leaves after this improvement then it will raise some questions in the minds of others. That being said i think he will sign on for another 3 to 5 years to repay the club then leave after that contract in a Dangerfield-esque style of deal.

The best thing is we have Hogan and I reckon a bloke that will be better than Stringer in Petracca

It's taken 3 years to climb from last to the edge of the 8.

Realistically it will be 2-3 more years to reach the pinnacle, then 3+ years to try and snag a few flags.

If Hogans up for it he'd be looking at 5+ years.

I was never on board the "let's throw everything at him bus". He just would hang his head at times and I doubted his temperament.
However, I thought he played one of his best games for us on the weekend. His work rate from one end of the field to the other was superb and I'm now on board the bus!
We don't need midfielders, we need Hogan as we get cracking towards a flag.

You'd be seriously stupid to leave a up and coming side thats going to be a force in 3 years brimming with serious talent.

But thats just me personally..

Do I want Hogan to stay? Yes. At any price? No. We are heading down the road of top clubs that have to try and keep all their stars or emerging stars yet balance the books. Given the professional nature of the game and particularly player managers and indeed the attitude of the players, and in Hogans case, the go home factor a la Scott Thompson of the Crows, I think that if the Freo deal is big enough, Hogan will go. Team success and mateship is one thing but these days the dollar is the single most persuasive factor. I will be deeply disappointed if he goes but also philosophical about it and who can blame the player. Money and family comes before the club. One set of mates is replaced by another set of mates. We need to get used to the idea that we are going to lose some of our players this way. That's why the on-going task of recruiting and developing players becomes so important. Like other successful clubs, if you develop a champion team, the loss of a star becomes less important ( Franklin and Dangerfield).

Hogan was huge yesterday attracting 2 sometime three players causing a spill then a possesion and goal . Measure able as a score involvment im not sure but super important. Valuable player .

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
