Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Given we've got so few injuries (touch wood), I reckon this thread should focus on who's our best 22 and how do we get from our side on the weekend to the best 22 without disrupting the team. We're all aligned that anyone dropped from the weekend is rough; but ultimately see half a dozen possible changes that could make us better. If we're going to do well in a difficult 2nd half of the season draw, we need to have a gelled team playing well together asap.

I agree completely. We should be moving asap towards our best 22 and stay with it as long as we are able. Petracca is certainly in our best 22. Weideman will be second half of the year. As are Brayshaw, Trengove, Dunn, Lumumba, Garlett, Oliver. The task for the selectors is to move to that asap. End of story.

Others will have to make way. There are several who will be unlucky in this: M. Jones, Harmes, Hunt, Pederson, Garland maybe even Vanders and Frost. I would also like to see Jake (once he gets over his injuries) and Max in tandem  like last year's game against the Cats, although I know it will depend on match ups.

We need to become as ruthless as the Hawthorns of this world, which means we have good players playing in the twos. The Hawks have been doing it for years, and most of those players stay on because they hope to play in a premiership. Hawthorn have also been the biggest beneficiary of free agents, because they are the club of choice.

Melbourne can and will get there, but it means a large dose of objectivity, and a willingness to make ruthless decisions.

By the way, I think the MFC management shows every sign of adopting this. Perhaps a few of us posters need to as well.

Been asleep since Roos has taken over coaching?

Culture. Culture. Culture.

Building a competitive team culture means genuine competition for spots, picking the players that are performing so that everyone is trying to get to the peak of their abilities.

The days of picking a team based on talent and draft position went out a few years ago.

THAT is what genuine ruthlessness is and it is exactly what the MFC management has adopted.

Considerations:

  • Our bottom seven ranked players in terms of Supercoach were Hunt 40, Oliver 41, Brayshaw 57, Lumumba 62, Kennedy 64, Matt Jones 65 and Dunn 69.

So what? Is Roos picking an AFL team or a Supercoach team?

Just back  Mable- for a moment, I have other matters to attend to. However, I can confirm that Robbo is still, quite simply, an absolute [censored]!!

Cut to the chase Matt Jones OUT and unfortunately the dubutant Hunt OUT

Two changes thats it and for Bernie and Jeffy if fit! The only other variable if Jeffy still out might be to unleash the Petracca Attacker TM. same outs would then prevail!

Getting game time into young players is a good idea,so whoever gets dropped would be unfortunate. Hunt and Harmes were backup mids for Petracca and Brayshaw,oh boy how fortunate are the Dees. Hunt will win a Rising Star Award this year.

Sam Weiderman has been pretty consistently good so far, does he come into calculations from this point on?

No..

Why the rush? Pedersen Hogan Watts and maybe Frost if he keeps his form up are all playing good footy. Let him continue to develop and get use to the bigger bodies of the VFL.

It is such a pleasure knowing we don't have to rush a talented 1st round pick into our team rather that he actually develop his game properly and build his body without the hype and pressure.

I've just watched the replay and I'd have to say that as much as I love Brayshaw, I don't think he had that good a game. Not sure he's 100% at the minute and wouldn't be surprised if he's dropped. Whilst Bugg had some good numbers, I thought he butchered a couple as well - these would be the two changes I'd make for Vince and Garlett

Not "changes" related but not starting a new thread.

2 things I really want to see.

Dustin Martin try the fend of on Viney or Vince and get driven into the turf.

Our players not getting sucked into the Richmond's tactic of winning the ball at a stoppage then running with their head into a player/players in a bid to draw a free kick.

It's not a rush, he's kicked what 4,4 and 3 in the praccie game and the first 2 real ones? he's going along well, and still very much building into it.

i initially didn't think we'd see him much if at all this season due to not being as physically developed as he might need to be for AFL, but if his form continues at some point in the very near future they are going to have to seriously look at him.

Lumumba played 20 min of atrocious football when Brayshaw was off the ground getting Concussion tested. He was placed in the centre at stoppages and clearances after goals. He was responsible for stuffing up clearances that directly was accountable for magpie goals.

Provided Vince comes back that shouldn't happen again, and he should be sent to the wing.

Brayshaw still wasn't his dominating self of last year. He might be just going through the 2nd year blues.

Hunt had a very good 1st game, I'd give him 3 games to settle in.

Wagner has improved a lot with the NAB Challenge and a couple of games under his skin.

I am inclined to rest Clarrie and bring in ANB.

Michie is knocking on the Door, Petracca is also about ready. Weideman should be OK for the back half of the year.

A lot of  ifs but not a bad scenario.

Don't know who to drop.

But Vince and Garlett are automatic ins.

Right now our group of auto selections would imo be Vince, N.jones, Watts, Hogan, Mcdonald, Gawn, Viney, Garlett those guys will always be picked even if it means dropping someone who may be a bit unlucky

Why?

Should we just play him every week and run him into the ground while there are players fit and ready to come in?

Give him a taste and let him want it more. Give him a rest.

Presumably the "him" here is Oliver

All those who advocate him being "given a rest" is that a genuine rest, or a game at VFL?

Yeah i just saw this too, does anyone know when it happened? must have been late, i could swear i saw him a few times in the 4th

Could Brayshaw's "concussion" be code for giving him a full week off rom training and maybe playing?  A good "excuse" for making space for a chastened Vince to return.

I am sure he will "come into calculations" but unless and until injury forces the issue I suspect that he will stay at Casey to "learn his trade".

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
