Deescraceful. Beaten by team only put together in the last few months with a few nice rookies thrown in who ran harder, were more desperate around the pill and ran to space/on the lead on umptean occasions to ensure their runners up the field had multiple options on the spread. Their spread and hard work killed us and made most of our guys look like the team that had been pieced together in the last few months. The melbourne of old reared its ugly head today. Kent, Salem, Bugg, Hogan were shown up by a 2nd gamer in Clarry. Some of Kents/Hogans work or lack-there-of today was horrid horrid horrid.

Thought we might have been moving forward but we took about 5 steps back today.

Lumumba dropping of marks with no pressure.

Watts lack of any Intesity and they way he was man handled by old man Kelly.

Hogans head is in WA.

Kent did he play?

Gawn wants to be best ruckman in the competition?

Could go on all day..... I'm done.

Once again we are a laughing stock. We have lost any respect we had built over the preseason. No matter who we beat now, people will always through this loss back in our face

I watched all my pre-season optimism go down the gutter, I was confident but [censored] that was [censored] poor, the players deserve what Roos will dish out at the press conference.

What the heck is going on with Jesse Hogan? lazy, sooky, not leading, he is not even close to the player he was last year.

Don't you dare critique Wonder Boy, PG....

You know what's the worst part?

We've made a whole lot of Essendon supporters very happy tonight.

This performance of ours will have given their whole putrid club a new lease of life.

And they will feel that their arrogance is completely justified - thanks to us!

Tmac - idiot.

Hogan - believing his own hype, loves a whine at the umps

Nate Jones - needed to inspire and lead, failed.

Viney - Was beaten soundly.

Harmes - poor again

Bugg - poor

Watts - poor

Lumumba - goodbye

kent - terrible.

Gawn - got slaughtered today.

Salem - NOT A DEFENDER!!!

Coaches - pathetic, pathetic, pathetic.

Melbourne FC - Typical effort and ability. As a whole this club is super poor. They kill my love for the game, I now don't want to go to games, it's not worth the 5+ hour round trip.  I'm not even angry, I just knew that we would lose, it is just typical of this club to roll over and cop a rogering from a club that on paper is worse than ourselves.

Its like the players see we are favourites, put their feet up and fondle their balls all week.

We didn't get enough from too many players. Our ball movement was slow, we didn't work hard to spread and we weren't first to the ball. They smashed us in uncontested possessions and as a result we didn't deserve to be as close as we were.

In some ways the defeat was comparable to the 148 loss. It proves there's still a very soft underbelly at our football club.

I'm surprisingly calm. It was such an insipid performance though. I can feel the apathy returning.

I was hoping this would be a season where we would become more consistent. I know it's early in the season and that could still come, but it's a pretty bitter pill to swallow.

Said it in the game day thread. Will say it here.
We are the most immature team in the AFL. We stagger over the line last week and that is enough for some.
It felt like Groundhog Day going in (our loss to Essendon last year). Contented playing group, backs to the wall opposition and us going in hot favorites. You could just tell this was going to happen.
Tom McDonald needs to be dropped. I don't bag individuals too much but some of his decision making is ridiculous. It's been 4 years that we've been saying that he needs to play within his limitations and this happens!
It's not season over by a long way but if that group is aiming for finals then they are a considerable distance from their goal.

Did not work hard enough with and without the ball.

No energy, talk or direction on ground,

our forward line set up is a joke. They either all clump together and don't lead or are so far up the ground there is no target.

Hogan needs to realise if he doesn't want to be double teamed he actually needs to lead and preferably multiple times.

Pathetic in any way you spin it.

Hogan = 2nd year blues.

Turning point was when he didn't lay a tackle on Gwilt with that scrambled ball that came into our F50, just let him waltz it out and they had yet another end to end transition. Think it was all tied up at that point. He really needs a bollocking.

Lumumba was insipid, and should not wear the jumper again IMO. I'd honestly rather have Terlich playing.

They are incapable of handling any expectations. They deserve to stay in the bottom four.

I expected this performance but hoped for better. They can get 10000 new coaches and it would make no difference.

This club has a cancer that is terminal.

This is an all time new low for this football club. We get sold this [censored] about how the clubs changed and moving forward its all a load of [censored]! The players don't give a stuff... The players should be ashamed they've shown a complete disrespect to us as supporters and time and time again they let us down. They can get f$%#ed

If only I was surprised, there was a justifiable reason many of us were nervous about this game.

Mentally, this club makes marshmallows look tough

Hard to cut those marshmallows, and that sugar coating could bring a dieabetic down in a heartbeat - oh wait, that was last week.

Only one word for this week.

Crud!!

I am so angry with that effort displayed today. Worst loss in the club's history. Getting beaten by a team of ageing hacks. Time for Roos to step aside if he can't get them up on game day.

Things we know...... * a week is a long time in football, * desire wins matches, * we have nowhere near the depth or quality of footballers we were beginning to believe, * this week we are the worst team in the AFL, * it's going to be a long season, * next week is going to be very ugly.

    TRAINING: Wednesday 19th February 2025

Demonlander The Analyser was the sole Trackwatcher out at Casey Fields today to bring you the following observations from this mornings preseason training session. Training  was at Casey today. It consisted of a match simulation for one half  and then a free choice activity time. Activities included kicking for goal,  aerial , contest work etc. I noticed the following players not in match simulation Jack Viney  running laps and looks fine for round one . I think Kolt looks like he’s im

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
