Like the idea of him toweling up opposition alongside T-Mac. That haircut, although horrible, could be forgiven if he destroyed for us.

What do we all think about his incident a few years back bashing a taxi driver? Not the same as Jeffy's past "issue(s)", much worse I would say. Unsure as to wether he'll tarnish the culture we're building or wether he'll fit in like a well oiled glove and play good footy.

As Jim Carrey once highlighted..."like a glove!"

I really really prefer a team of competitors Dee Gee.

And if he's bashing a Josh Kennedy or a Buddy Franklin on GF day with us in front...the taxi driver incident - whilst I don't condone it - I'll just put it down to his doning the sash at that time with a 'whatever it takes' attitude.

They'll get massive FA compensation. Assuming they finish bottom, and the likes of Hooker and Hurley are offered big contracts to leave, the may end up with the top 3 picks in supposedly a strong draft.

not if most go as dfa's

but the afl could make up the rules as they go....as they do

I think the Hurley thing will depend on how many of our young guns we have signed up. Our FD will want to be sure all the important players are locked in before going after Hurley, on top of Prestia.

Heard a rumour we may going hard  after Micheal Hurley for next season in the expected exodus of Essendon players. Apparently Goodwin as coach may be the jam.  Anyone else heard it?

I posted the following on 16 March in the "Essendon's List" thread:

"I had no info at the time, but Mark Harvey has told a good source that Melbourne are right into Hurley.

Now I know a lot of clubs would be, but Melbourne was specifically mentioned. The only club mentioned.

Who knows ?  He'll probably stay, but he might want a fresh start and at 24-25 he might not see a flag at Essendon.  Plenty of his mates have moved on, including Melksham.  And he'll also be familiar with Goodwin.

I hope we go hard.  Hogan up front, Hurley down back with that developing midfield could be very exciting.

I'm sure the Hawks and Pies, etc. will be just as keen."

IIRC, all of them automatically become delisted free agents due to the suspension.

Wow is this true?   .  That cheating club will take decades to recover.

Most won't agree but I'd love him as a forward next to Jesse, at least until Weid is ready. Add to that fleet of tough, aggressive players that we're building.

If we did somehow get him and then play him as a forward I would be less than impressed. He was drafted as a backman, played forward for a number of years where he had very mixed results, struggled marking the ball and never kicking 30 in a year, and then was moved down back where he became an AA.

Hurley and Hooker are going to have 600k-750k price tags attached to them. To pay that for someone who can pinch hit up forward isn't smart recruiting. It's very justified for getting one of the best key backs in the comp. We may currently lack a 2nd key forward, but Tmac and Dunn are not always reliable against the best of the best, or even say like how a Daniher or Cloke tore us up last year.

I doubt we land Hurley but if we do it's to play on Buddy, Kennedy, J Reiwoldt and Tex. Not as some expensive decoy for Hogan. Just my thoughts.

So we are 100% sure they are all able to walk as delisted free agents? I found an article saying yes but as the AFL confirmed this? I'm sure I read something relatively recently (just tried to search it but couldn't find) where the Dons were pushing back heavily on that prospect as they believed the players have had ample time to take this up but had stayed at the club. Player agents pushing hard for it obviously.

https://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/sport/afl/a/30566332/banned-bombers-can-walk-out-on-club/#pause

Thus article has Dons saying we have 6 contracted players.

I have a strange feeling he will be a Demon at seasons end based on absolutely nothing but a hunch. (And perhaps the Goodwin factor and our rising list which is one elite key back short of greatness IMO)

Ive always despised him but if he comes to the MFC I will instantly love him, its how these things work

Yeah - we've already got Chris Dawes for that.

You don't pass up the chance to get top shelf quality but I think there are a few reasons this won't happen

1. Our lack of first round pick - I expect the AFL to demand Essendon players be traded for even if they are declared as some type of free agents
2. The FD seem to have a lot of faith in Oscar Mc
3. It's still probably a little earlier than perfect to add a big fish in the list build stakes
4. We really could do with a pacy wingman, continual addition of players who can run and kick as well as ruck/ruck forward depth. The best shot of getting them is probably holding our draft picks.

A free agent is a free agent is a free agent. Can you imagine the shitfight the other 17 clubs would create if the AFL tried to change the FA rules in favour of the club that gave its players PEDs?

Oh bummer. That will push our first round pick back.:roos:

I think the number 1 focus of the club at seasons end will be locking away Jesse Hogan which is more than likely going to be big coin.

Dom Tyson while his form is up and down will still demand moderate coin and TMAC moderate to big coin i would have thought

Watts keeps his form up and he'll be demanding more and more

Oliver, Brayshaw, Petracca we will need to keep money aside for

and if Trengove plays well i imagine his next contract will be a bit higher then rookie wages,

I highly doubt the club would be in a position to bring in both Hurley and Prestia or anyone else like that, one would probably be the max

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
