You couldn't be more wrong! ASADA/WADA is about performance enhancing drugs. In other words , cheating. That is what the AFL should be primarily concerned with.

Are you suggesting that a player who uses Pot during the offseason is cheating ? Or should be exposed for doing what every other kid is doing. 

Prof Alex Wodak in Sydney has been making the point for years. The single most dangerous product being ingested by footballers at all levels is alcohol. Yet no one is hair testing for alcohol. I listened to Mark McLure raving about this on Saturday, hopelessly confusing recreational drugs with WADA and cheating . When he played , players got [censored] after every match. It is not as bad now but grog is still the most dangerous product affecting footballers

one other point . The hair test is not conclusive . It is simply a trigger for precise testing .

Pot is an "illicit drug" . The positive hairtests may well relate to players who've smoked the odd joint

Re AFL 360.

Buckley had some very reasonable and seemingly legitimate observations on the way in which this was reported by Slobbo, which he intimated was super poor but which he acknowledged could have been really important with proper and meaningful insight (which in his view plainly did not take place here).

Chris Scott then tore Slobbo a new one. Nailed it. Was very complimentary of Tim Lane's approach to this issue. Distinction to be drawn between elicit substance abuse and taking performance enhancing drugs.

Clear take out - don't think either coach respects Slobbo as a journo. I suspect the Slob is probably sobbing into a beer by himself at some pub right now. Humiliating stuff - live on air to the nation too.

Slobbo is a disgrace, i have worked with journalists before, the true journalist i have immense respect..Slobbo is not one of them..This "Leak" should be the end of him..He had no right to say a word.

Any of the Clubs or players should be furious...This Hair testing was to be done off the record, not only did he squeal in that Gutter Paper, he has made up the story..

That is a dogs act in the Industry....

I hope Buckley & Scott both crucified him....

Whilst I am certainly no fan of Robbo, he isn't the only one runnimg with the 'up to 11' figure which was first published on Friday.

The Daily Telegraph in Sydney quotes an 'AFL source' as saying the figure is actually closer to between double that and up to 30.

This was a breach of confidentiality and Robinson should not have used it. Having decided to use it he should not have named a club. Clubs have no control over this at this stage and don't deserve to be damaged by this sort of thing. Clubs need to be be informed and no doubt will be trying to get modifications to the current agreement. The majority of players would have nothing to fear from this and players who do test positive can be managed by the club and the AFL. There must be consequences though. They are role models and must live up to the expectations that their position demands. There has been some talk on this forum about alcohol. It can't be tested for in a hair sample. It can be used without abuse. Illicit drugs cannot be used without abuse. Alcohol abuse  needs to be dealt with in a different way.

Maybe he shouldn't have named the club, but at least it has people talking about a solution to the wider issue. If as big a club as Collingwood has this level of problem with illicit drug use, they might just be powerful enough to force the AFL's hands into altering the Drugs policy. The club has been arguing for all AFL clubs to know when one of their players tests positive. At least now it might just come to be.

The most interesting thing for me is that Robbo names Collingwood one day and then on the next day write that it's unfair that Colingwood was named. Must have received an interesting phone call in between those two days.

One can only hope that Gary Pert, who is a Director of Pacific Star Network (owners of radio station SEN) suggested to Robbo that his job at SEN was at risk.

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding you, but are you saying that Mark Robinson brings accurate, balanced and investigative journalism to SEN? If so, I have to make the point that I'm not convinced he's accurate, balanced, investigative or a journalist.

I think what DC is saying is that club officials shouldn't be the gatekeepers of what is or isn't reported in the media.

If clubs disagree with what is reported, they have right of reply.

If Robinson has outright lied (not off by a player or two) that is what libel is for. I don't think News Corp's legal department would have allowed him to go to print with the story if it was a fallacy.

I could be wrong, but that is how I interpreted the post.

Robinson, like him or not isn't bound by this confidentiality. His duty as a reporter is to report the news and again like it or not this is news...

The leak had to have come from the AFL or Collingwood, maybe the testing authority. One of he first 2 would be my bet, maybe Eddie has rubbed Dill the wrong way or maybe they are both setting up the players association. What's for certain is that someone or group of someone's has an axe to grind...

My personal view is the AFL have to be all in or all out on this one. At the moment they are trying to have it both ways.

If they're in then they need to take action on a positive test otherwise leave the whole thing alone and just worry about performance enhancing drugs (although they don't seem to be too focussed here either).

Do you remember a couple of years back when rumours were floating around about Essendon players receiving "show cause" notices, ie ASADA had started proceedings against a bunch of them.

That bastion of integrity Robbo wrote a story in the HUN naming 14 of them, and in the very same issue wrote an opinion piece bemoaning how unfair it was that the players privacy had been invaded.

This "hair drugs" story, if published at all, should have been about the number of players in the pool of AFL players using illicit drugs and how that compares to the rest of society. (I don't know if it's more or less or equal.)

To make it about Collingwood is taking the easy way out and is just the kind of thing we have come to expect of the HUN and those who work for it.

This is why Presidents and CEO'S want to know when a player is caught out. Its ridiculous this isnt included as a strike. Love to hear what Paul Marsh has to say. He will still defend them. 

Im sure the clubs fear when the off season comes because players are just doing what they want. 

Do you, and others writing so " seriously" about this matter, realise that if these guys were playing for Melbourne Victory, or Melbourne Rebels, or the Australian cricket team, or were competing in international athletics  or rowing, this issue would not have arisen? Only in AFL or NFL does out of season testing for illicit drugs take place. There is of course out of season testing for performance enhancing drugs--as there should be because such drugs have a lasting effect, well into the season.

this is why the players' association is rightly incensed. They volunteered to take part in this program, as a means to assist players who may have a problem. They were under no obligation to do so. To

NEWS FLASH...... Slobbo is an D grade actor/jurno impersonator who allowed himself to be challenged, pushed around and beaten on his OWN show. The only story to come out of this is he must now know he will never get into this boys club....All jurnos must be cringing watching him go to water other night.

yes, you are misunderstanding me. 

there are too many execs (either club, afl, media, major suppliers/contractors, business partners, etc) with multiple cross connections. it's an incestuous mates club full of conflicts of interest and far from transparent.
