Manage over next month with medicine than build on fitness base. Maybe a round 16 onwards option.

So you do know the exact diagnosis.  Would you care to share?

I'm hoping I missed your sarcasm with this one.

Perhaps I should have spelled it 'Mission'?

Sounds like a really crap thing to have, best of luck to him. Hopefully they'll be able to get this under control and have effective last part to the year.

Thyroids can be quite chronic, my wife and three daughters all suffer from thyroid issues inherited from their mothers genes and it is quite debilitating until treated with medication however, even then it is a life time issue. As DeeSpencer and a few others pointed out this would explain his inability to utilise his pace over the past few games. Good luck Christian lets hope that the medico's can get it sorted out for you for a Good start for 2017.

Troy Davis who we recruited at #50 in the 2010 AFL National Draft suffered from a thyroid condition which curtailed most of his first season at the club. When he returned to play at Casey he looked quite overweight and although he fought back to full fitness and finally played a couple of games for the Demons late in 2013. He was obviously not as talented as Salem is but I'm not aware of him having an ongoing problem with the illness.

Davis sidelined with thyroid disorder

Let's hope that the medication does the trick and that he's back playing sooner rather than later. We now have two early draft picks sidelined just as another in Jack Trengove is about to make his return.

Under active thyroid <hypothyroidism >much easier .Replacement thyroid hormone is available and dose needs to be adjusted according to blood testing .

overactive thyroid <hyperthyroidism or thyrotoxicosis > as stated above has several treatment options .

medication of which several types not always effective.

radioactive iodine next option normally effective but usually only used for medication failure

surgery if neither of above effective

Thanks for the info Demon

Probably explains his listless (for him) form.  Recover completely and quickly Salo.  When you've done that, you are free to take the comp by storm.

Thought he wasn't having a great season. I apologise Christian. Get well and come back when healthy, to give us your best.

Is this legit?

Besides that show, no other media outlet or afl.com.au have run with the update?

His dominant display in the VFL with 28 touches also says otherwise.

Poor bloke, hope he sorts it out. I want Salem to be a superstar for two main reasons:

1. Makes our team better

2. Proves the pile of monkey excrement Damian Barrett wrong!

He has an over active thyroid probably of autoimmune origin causing a fast metabolism resulting in weight loss, a fast irregular pulse, intolerance of heat, diarrhoea and bulging eyes. Can be debilitating but is treatable with drugs to slow the thyroid down, surgery to remove part of the thyroid or radioactive iodine to kill the overactive gland.

Thanks Prof

Poor bloke. Hope he comes back soon.

I wouldn't want him to play unless he is 100%

I can tell if he is less than 100%, he will have minimal game time and no impact

Give him a week off and get him ready for Hawks/QB

2024 Player Reviews: #1 Steven May

The years are rolling by but May continued to be rock solid in a key defensive position despite some injury concerns. It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield.
