Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

christ, imagine if we had a bad year with injuries this year?  A 4-5 win season would have killed us

Depending on whom the injuries were to and when (i.e. losing Maxy would have killed us), but the fact that Casey is on top of their ladder indicates we have a bit more "fat" in reserve than previously and could have absorbed more injuries without it decimating the AFL team. this buffer should grow as our kids become more seasoned in the years to come.

Anybody know what HL's story is -  other than a good game against the Roos his 2016 has been a complete bust. Im not certain his place is secure in our best 22 is secure and think we should look at moving him on at years end. The salary cap room could be important and he may offer some trade value.

I don't believe for a second that concussion is the only thing keeping Lumumba out of the side at present. I hope he does the honourable thing and asks the club to come to an arrangement to pay out his contract at year end, as I have never felt that he has fully committed to us. The worst thing for all concerned would be for him to continue to go through the motions for the next two years, particularly with talented youngsters battling for his position.

Yeah, that'd be why he was put in the leadership group hey....

Agree. With Gus the Club gave updates on his progress. Similarly the Saints and McCartin. We've received nothing (that I'm aware of) about HL's progress. He comes across as a man of principal. If he no longer has a burning desire to play AFL at the highest level, he should walk away with a payout commensurate with what he has contributed.

I share that view of H.

However, he suffered concussion while playing for the club.   (The concussion may have triggered other issues, who knows).  Overall if he cannot continue, I'm not sure he should forfeit the income from the final year of his contract.  I think our club is equally principled and they would work out something that is fair.

Wasn't there a news article that said H would never play again about 2 months ago ? Then H was brought in as an emergency but never played same weekend so everyone wrote off the news story as rubbish. Might have some merit afterall.....??

Misson said defender/midfielder Heritier Lumumba remained sidelined indefinitely with concussion.

“’H’ we’re just continuing to work through his concussion issues and he’s doing some running and some weights,” he said.

“We’ll probably have a better idea this time next week as to whether he’ll play again [this season].”

Not sure you can assume that everything that is put out by the club tells the whole truth stuie.

There was an official line on a certain Mr. Clark a few years back that only covered some of the issues and not others.

A grain of salt should be used with these " For public comments"

That wasn't the point of my post.

That post was in response to those saying there's a conspiracy going on because there had been no updates.

There has been. In fact that's from yesterday.

Again OD, the point was about the club providing updates as some had claimed they hadn't.

It wasn't about the integrity of the updates.

I'm no body language expert but the way Misson looked down and away when speaking about HL's concussion looked a little too inconspicuous for my liking.

There's more to it imo.

Yep what we don't know would fill a chapter in the mystery injuries book.

H has had a couple of concussions. Pleased that the club is being responsible and prudent in putting his longer-term health and well-being first.

If there are other issues, presumably the club will deal with those as well. If they are private issues, the club is right to protect individual player's privacy.

He did play. He played for Casey and got another concussion.

What do you have to base these beliefs on? Any time he's spoken about the club he has sounded very positive and committed. He's a very strange cat, and at times he seems to a lot about himself, but he has come across as someone with high moral fibre and wouldn't be the sort of person to take us for a ride.

As for his value to the club going forward, could be quite dependant on the off-season recruiting. If we do end up getting Hibberd I would say they play fairly similar roles as running half backs who break the lines. Add to the fact that Hunt has shown great dash at times and a few of the other younger boys have been given roles in defence it could make things difficult for H to be a regular going forward.

Great to hear the Hulk is right to go.

However, the plot thickens with Lumumba....

Quote

Defender Heritier Lumumba (concussion) remains sidelined indefinitely and first-year player Mitch King continues to make progress from a knee injury, which has sidelined him since early April.

“’H’ is having a couple of weeks away from the club and we’re hoping he’ll come back and do a little bit of training towards the end of the year,” Misson said.

Not sure how the plot thickens. There have been ongoing reports that he's still showing symptoms of concussion, and with no realistic possibility of him playing again this year, makes sense to give him some time away.

Whether there are other factors, who's to know.

Wish him well, must be difficult for him.

Steve

Your quote from Misson doesn't sound like the club is in total control of his recovery plan.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
