Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Carlton have been tanking for a couple of past years,  so weren't as bad as they appeared.  Malthouse was used to spite the pies,  & to be a scapegoat once the blues had realised there was to be no fairy-tale early in MnM's coaching stint.

Since that point they had inner disagreements between rebuild ideas, & they also layed down for the list..

so the list wasn't as bad as they looked in games last year.

Richmond they found a way to win.

Comedy Festival is upon us...

Tigers scrambled a win and Blues looked much better.

Lose. Lose.

Tiges wanted to blow away the Blues and set their season up. Worst possible way to win for them. Now the doubts have set in already. A loss wouldn't have been much worse.

Blues ... well let's see how they hold up. The Tiges may have flattered them.

The Blooz surprised me last night. Richmond went in with the old "this'll be a cakewalk" attitude and boy oh boy did they get a shock. And I thought the blooz were quite good, shoulda won!

And-

Sheet, that Cripps kid goes OK

shoulda coulda woulda,  but didn't.

so who really deserved to win?  surely the ones who were ahead when the whistle blew.

from what I saw the blooz had enormous run & carry,  high tempo?  And run energy,  the Tiges played a bit more of a long kicking from the bits I saw. & appeared slower.

The Cotchin thread on PuntRoadEnd is hilarious.

Theres no meat left on that carcass.

Whenever I read other forums, all I see is ridiculous hyperbole, or overanalysis that draws long bows to the point of being complete nonsense. It makes me wonder if Demonland is the same and I've just become insensitive to it. Case in point in that Cotchin thread:
Big call but my impressions from him is he doesn't really care about footy. He has other endeavours. I can see him being the type to retire at 28-29. Fire in the eyes or lack of is right. I've seen him in interviews after a bad loss or bad individual performance and he doesn't come across as being angry or upset like most players.

Looks happy to just be a player. I think the responsibility of being the captain has a lot to do with it. Drained him because he's not capable.

You are always going to get some that routinely go over the top on forums for each club.   In my opinion, most people on Demonland can discuss their opinions in a mature manner.

I can see Trent Cotchin doing exactly what Ryan Griffen did when hes contract is up.

He already had offers from Hawthorn to go and play for Box Hill.

It was a very open game, from what I noticed. That suited Carlton's style quite well. In the end they just tired, stopped connecting with eachother and the ball movement broke down.

If Carlton had had any true forwards available, or simply kicked straight early on, would have been a different result.

Oodly, Carlton were actually ahead of Richmond for age and experience.

It is very hard to place exactly what the status of Carlton's list is - last year they had injuries and poor form limiting a number of their should-be-stars. Plus Malthouse was coaching them and much of the playing group actively hated him.

Richmond on the other hand - they have 8 very good players and then fillers.Carlton's fillers outperformed Richmond's, maybe just because they don't know they are fillers, while the two-class culture at Richmond is deeply ingrained. At least as far back as Wallace! This is why I think they'll never go all the way with this team.

Richmond are soft, and I'm surprised it's not highlighted more. Quite a few soft players, but just as a team they're soft, front runners. It's no surprise they can't win a final.

I'm still baffled as to why the media gives the Tigers a rub.  They have a few quality players but, outside of those, there isn't much else going on.  Look at the blokes they added - Townsend just wants to whack people and Rioli is a few years away.  If they were pushing for a premiership then Rioli doesn't play as there isn't a spot for him.  What else do they have?

true. I didn't see the first half.  but assumed it was because of the rotation numbers...  or I hoped so,  as I want to see more of that openness.  it makes fro more spontaneous creativity & excitement.

... & less tactical from the engineers on the sidelines.

the blooz traditionally are running sides,  moreso than Tiges,  who traditionally are long kicking, high marking sides.

They are in massive trouble, and they just extended Hardwick's contract to stop this kind of speculation. I am aware they beat Hawks/Freo/Port/Sydney last year but I don't think this will be the case this time around.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
