He was really good today, along with Frosty if they can keep the turn overs low, look like a formidable pairing. Works so hard across the ground, to make space and to position himself when coming back to kill opposition fwd entries.

He has had some poor moments this year but would be bloody hard to replace. Sign him up.

Fwiw I thought he played a decent game today. Played to his strengths. Linked quite well.

Agree SWYL ....either pen to paper orstop the ruse.

Dont tell me you've turned bb haha.

The mistakes thing is over rated. Tom is an excellent young kpd.

We could go through games and point out multiple  players who miskicks and turnovers cause goals from turnovers from up the ground.

For some reason demonland only points out Toms

To be fair, he does have some absolute brain farts and, given where they occur, they often cost us goals.

But so did Kent last week, and Brayshaw this week.

Tom is clearly instructed to take the game on and when his kicks hit the target, we get out and it looks fantastic.

He is one of the best KPDs in the league, let alone for his age. He is just an essential signing.

Agree not saying he is perfect just commenting that he gets unfairly singled out for his brain farts

I agree completely. They're just much more obvious than, say, Kent stuffing up a kick going into 50.

Although Kent was great today too :)

I can confirm, I have today been told by a reliable source within the club prior to the match that Tom has indicated he will sign on to stay within the next month. Finer details still to be worked out, and it will be for less than he could have got elsewhere, but he believes in the direction of the club and wants to stay here with his brother and mates.

Fantastic news.

Hard to know if you're taking the piss, given your attitude (that I share) towards another poster who likes to "confirm" stuff.

No need to respond though, I'll assume you're serious since it's in line with what I believe anyway

For real or are you still upset about GNF? Surely tonight of all nights we can move on.

Upset? Rightio. Just warning others to be more cautious...

Anyway, I did hear this, but the way it was presented was not an accident.

And as a postscript: nothing can be really confirmed until it actually happens, and any half-decent source would know not to present anything in absolute terms until it happens either. Things change very quickly, assurances be damned.

For instance, Geelong were certain Frawley was theirs 2 years ago, until Hawthorn went all-in with a couple of weeks to go before the FA period. All communication with Geelong dropped off with no warning. Excuses for why James wasn't available were made for a week or so. Later on, leaked intel about Geelong's poor finances was raised as a concern before it had become public, but they were never actually advised of a change of heart & knew nothing until his signing was announced at the Hawks.

Of course. But its still good to hear about some of whats happening behind the scenes...regardless of how they pan out.  Its why I love the site.

I actually have only just caught up on this, and whilst I am a big Tom McDonald defender and understand he makes mistakes, if people were watching Rance 3-4 seasons ago his disposal was quite poor and even still it is. But it's his defensive acts that make up for it.

Tom McDonald is an important piece to our premiership puzzle up there with Gawn and Hogan. There is little to no trade, that will cover his loss and to be fair nothing short of an established kpd who has all Australian seasons left in him will suffice.

I for one can not understand how people can not see the importance of him to the side regardless of his few errors he makes a game.

I am one who has been totally exasperated by TMac but Tom's last two weeks have been very good with few mistakes or brain fades. If he continues to play like that he will be an AA defender.

All players have been given licence to take the game on ala Angus horrendous turn over Sat that lead to Gunstan goal.

T Mac just needs to keep working on the brain farts, and our boys up field to keep providing enough space to put the ball into an attacking position.

Id argue that Gussy's kick was a defencive kick, which to me is the opposite of taking the game on. That said the point you are making is right, they look so much better when taking it on. That kick inboard to watts who then pin pointed Pedo on the lead would never have happened last year. It would have been a bomb from the flank just done in hope in hope.

trouble is gus's kick was just too accurate. the receiver couldn't move because the kick was exactly to the spot he was standing, so had to take it flat footed and exposed

and that was the problem. he should have kicked it short so the player had to come to the ball and it would have been ok

Liam Shiels was interviewed re-game on 3AW.  He said Clarko encourages them to go for their kicks and not worry about any errors, just move on to the next kick.  I think the Hawks know something about this topic.

There's no doubt the coaching staff at MFC are saying the same thing.  Tom's kicking was flat, hard, accurate and created some long attacking chains..

I talked to him at training last week and came away with the same impression, the contract needs to suit both him and the Club, assume it is the fine print that is being tidied up

Don't worry 'Unleash'...'Roost it' believes Hogan is going home.

He's said it a number of times, he doesn't have any secret sauce just an assumption like many who assume he is staying.

I hardly think he's singled out.Its just that his brainfarts and clangers often cost us goals. Im simply calling it as I saw it. He played a quite good game.  It WAS a little different as he didnt stuff it up . He played to his strengths. That he should all the time !!

When you have targets/teammates all creating options, it is a lot easier to hit a targets straightaway, if you look up and see only one guy on the move, you start to second guess yourself, difference on Saturday for Tommy
