that's the BS part. 'Family reasons' is another example of this. Nobody is honest about it because it seems tasteless to openly state you are selling out.  It's money, always money, and it trumps everything. Which is why the notion of anybody leaving us is never 'ridiculous'

No doubt money was a big factor in his move.  Nobody would deny that.

But the circumstances of his move were much different.  Ablett had already won a flag and a Brownlow at Geelong.  He had already established himself as the best player in the competition.

Then GC came calling.  He felt that he had achieved plenty for Geelong and the opportunity to be the face of a brand new franchise, by being it's first captain, and make a truckload of cash was too good to turn down.  Money was a large part of the move, but not all of it, and his desire to move on from Geelong was very different as well.

For Viney, a lifelong Demon supporter, to move on now is 'ridiculous' to me and many other posters.  He bleeds for the jumper and wants to bring sustained success to the club he loves.  He won't go anywhere.

Damien Barrett comes with a lot of Bull about Melbourne Football Club every year. He clearly hates us he doesn't forgive us for the tanking fiasco even though we were not charged for tanking and even though other teams tanled worse than us in the bust. He clearly has bee bludging in the off season and needs a scoop to start the year off. Last year he came up with Heretier Lubumba incident from a few years earlier when he was at Collingwood where he asked if he could be excused if he tests positive to marijuana because he hang around friends who took it but he didn't. He clearly hates Melbourne Football Club.

Not only that, he moved up north to be the face of a brand new football club.

Not only ... he'd won two premierships and a Brownlow at Geelong.

Trash rumour, as can be expected from The Purple Headed Warrior.

The only reason Jack Viney would head over to Port Adelaide would be to physically drag Ollie Wines back to Melbourne and force him into an MFC jumper.

Please no! It. Becomes click bait which journos use to inflate their importance.

A big part of Ablett leaving was his falling out with Bomber.

Yep, that too.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is that comparing Ablett leaving for GC was over vastly different circumstances than others, and is not a good comparison to be using for someone like Viney (who, for that matter, is going nowhere).

When did Purple say this?

The crux of it is here.

"...The funny thing is, that I have heard from a mate that would know - that Jack Vineys manager has been in close contact with the club about coming across as well!!

Apparently he is looking for the chance to play finals and to be a part of a club that can realistically provide that as Melbourne is not likely to for a very long time.

Watch this space..."

I think I've read similar things about Wines on this forum.

Ablett moved for money. I have no doubt our offer to Viney would be greater than what Port would offer.

The root of all evil.

Some malevolent forces must be [ ... ] scared of a Melbourne uprising and now trying this rubbish.

Funny

I reckon there's some truth to this.

There's so many dismissive, arrogant and blasé comments - on Facebook posts from Fox Footy, AFL and the like - when Melbourne is mentioned in positive news stories (which they mostly are these days). "They're still a basket case", "They'll always be a rabble", "The most fight you'll see from Melbourne all year" (in relation to TMac and Viney stoush) and so on.

Fans of clubs like Essendon, Collingwood, Richmond still refuse to believe that we could be any good this year. The media are similar. So many journos have actually tipped us to finish lower this year than last (this makes absolutely no sense but whatever they're the experts).

It doesn't bother me, because we know better. Maybe they have a right to be like that given how crap we've been in recent years. But I think many must know things have changed and I think it's fear and wishful thinking as much as anything.

It's going to make it so much sweeter when we prove them wrong.

are involved in some nasty Media Frenzy at some stage

the bile and absolute Filth both write as journalists is incredible.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
