Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Id be fascinated to hear. My info on the matter is really only from 2 sources. The  press ( which is not really information) and this forum. So a glimpse into other worlds would be appreciated.

I am flummoxed. Have I stumbled onto some code for a take over of the state?

An interesting article on the appeal - whether players should have taken their case to Australian courts instead of Swiss courts.  Appeals to home country courts by other athletes appear to have done that with some success

Essendon appeal will be lengthy: WADA president

It seems the 34 are in for a long wait:

'The WADA President, Sir Craig Reedie, said:  "I understand that the Essendon players are heading to the Swiss Tribunal, which is the ultimate appeal process, and they are entitled to do that...It'll take quite a long time, he warned.'

Realistically, as if the Swiss Fed Court cares two hoots that Paul Marsh and co want their case heard asap!  They will have to wait their turn.  Of course, Marsh will bleat on about delays being unfair etc but he is yet to learn of the big fish/small pond place the AFL swims in.  He might also learn some finesse if he is going to deal with Europeans - he will find a very different culture where subtlety is a constant subtext.  (Btw did anyone else pick up that all documents associated with this case so far, need to be translated to French.  You would think that alone will take many months!)

The bottom line: "I think in all honesty to be fair to the athletes in anti-doping we try to protect the clean athletes..."  (Reedie).   So many in AFL land have lost sight of that.

Je ne comprend pas le francaise !!!! Sacre bleu !!!!

Luckily James got a bit of practice with the French tongue whilst on his French sojourn. He can help the players out.

Mr Francis, I don't want to be too pedantic but you claim you have worked over 10,000 hours on this case. I have factored in that you have a life outside this issue sooo.... at 40 hours per week working on this  equals 250 weeks. I have estimated that you work 48 weeks in the year.

By my very dodgy math you started working on this issue one year before Essendon even started their supplement program. Well done sir...well done.

Another Journo to add to the list of journos with no real understanding of what is going on.

The penalty imposed on Essendon is crap

It would be funny if it wasn't so blatantly wrong and apologetic.

My son, daughter-in-law and grandson live in Basel, which is in the German speaking part of Switzerland. What language will be used is very much dependent on where the case is to be held. It won't trouble the Swiss at all whether it is in French, German, Italian or English, and they are quite willing to chose the most inconvenient one available.

DC, I found this from the AFL:

The Essendon 34 appeal: Frequently asked questions

Extract:

Is the case really going to be conducted in French?

Oui. Yes. We're waiting for official confirmation of procedures from the Swiss court, but from what we've been told all the documentation so far has had to be translated into French.

Margaret Wenham is not an Essendon supporter

Correct. She is a cynical purveyor of clickbait. Ad revenue forecasts must be down at News Ltd.

Margaret Wenham is not an Essendon supporter. - Just an imbecile.

Where do they get these imbeciles?

One after another goes off half cocked, espousing their fantasy worlds, I suspect very few have read all the available documentation.

Margaret Wenham " The CAS finding also arose from it accepting WADA’s evidentiary “cable”, with that cable comprising “strands” of evidence. But, as far as I can see, there is no irrefutable proof TB-4 was given to the players and no evidence the players thought or knew they may have been supplied with it".

How does she reconcile the fact that on many occasions the 34 lied to ASADA investigators saying that they took no supplements? There were thousands of injections and not one player thought to mention it!

Many sportsmen have been banned on intent. You don't need a positive test Margaret. The players new what they were doing was risky, that is why they lied. Are there any real journalists out there?

I am sick to death of the fan boys/girls.

It is not hard to think why so many so-called journos write so much crud on this subject.  Not only is the sycophantic relationship with the AFL a factor, but I think the click-bait (both internet and printed versions) is a strong reason. Every time one of these articles is written, EFC supporters lap it up along with the readership who think this is all a big conspiracy by some nasty foreigners.  They can read that sort of guff endlessly.    How many readers would they get if they just repeated the facts that show 'guilty as charged'?  Not nearly as many.  Not the sort of article that bears much repetition.

These imbeciles are whingeing about a penalty handed down by the highest sporting court in the world. This is not an AFL tribunal judgment by the boys club this is CAS the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The prosecuting body was WADA the World Anti Doping Agency, this is not a backyard decision by the boys club. These are the biggest most serious organisations against doping in the world of sport. The players were found guilty.

A technicality does not make them innocent.

I want journalists to stand up for the 750 players that have not been found guilty of cheating. I want journalists to decry the EFC for putting their players and all other players at risk through their damned supplement program. What about the innocent! What about the innocent?

Now Mandee you know the answer to your last paragraph.

There have been a few journalists   who have run anti AFL stories but everyone of them is not beholding to the AFL for accreditation.

The rest ( Sports writers ) fall into two camps

- the sycophants who love the EFC e.g Robbo, Connelly  etc

- the others keep their heads down so as not to offend the AFL.

For most of History the "Innocents" have not had a voice what makes you think this is any different?

But you know this already.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
