Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Essendon has a better chance of playing finals than Melbourne

I was being generous when I said 5. They have hurt themselves in ways we can't even begin to understand. We've all played team sports (i assume) and know how fragile and fleeting team bonding can be. It's not a tap you can turn off and on. Essendon might have a couple of moments where they look like they they have it together but like us and Carlton over the last years (or Richmond since whenever), they will fall back to the default of players looking after themselves, coaches that only care about the win this week, and an admin that no-one in the club really trusts regardless of the party line.

It's the least they deserve

I didn't hear it all but on SEN last night David King was saying that he thinks Melbourne will win less games than last year, can't see any improvement in the list.

We are easy targets and he knows he will get a reaction but I hope we make the finals if nothing else to see him proven wrong.

Must have been studying stats from 2014

7 i think at last count

plus they can upgrade rookies of course

I find it interesting that these are supposed to be top up players to help essendon be able to field cover injuries etc.  One wonders how many of these so called top up players will be playing ahead of the remaining bombers. does not sound so much as a top up but a bloody big helping hand.

No Longer Andy,

Those days are now behind us, there is a new breed of players that wont put up with that shite any more.

They wont put up with any mistakes from team mates that don't toe the line.

The hold no fear of any team.

Starting to think Ralph was on the money on this one.

They comprehensively smashed us on Saturday and looked far the better side.

I think the Dons can easily finish higher than us this year.

I don't think Ralph was on the money at all. We didn't play well on the weekend, I don't think we played exceptionally well the week before either - but we did get the win. Things haven't clicked yet. I think we will be a good team this year. I was surprised we didn't beat Essendon, but I would be shocked if we didn't finish above them. Ralph will be wrong, he doesn't know much about football. I am not sure he even played football.

Surely it is fair to say that a player who is under 25 is likely to have his best footy ahead of him. With that in mind, our promising players in this group not inc. the newbies are Watts, Trengove, Gawn, Vandenberg, TMac, Bugg, Tyson, Frost, Kent, Kennedy, Viney, Hogan, Salem, JKH, Harmes, Petracca, Brayshaw, Stretch, King and ANB. Is King really arguing that this group is going to perform WORSE than they did last year?

And have a look at the players who were missing games for us last year.

He is fast becoming my most hated commentator, although he has a long way to go to beat Derwayne Russell

There is a reason Jonny Ralph does the injury& general gossip reports on Fox...

As for his football analysis & acumen... his assessment of Geelong as going nowhere prior to their run of sustained success says it all.

This game was the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th quarters of the last time Essendon clobbered us on the G, albeit this time with their second XVIII.  We were even sitting in the same spot. Essendon treated us as journeymen fools and could/ should have won by 50 points. I lost count of the set shots they missed.

Essendon is made up of  older players and young kids both of which will fall away as the year goes on

our team is starting to contain seasoned bodies which should stand up through the year and with more depth

of course we should finish on top of them

Was listening to the Run Home on SEN last night and Jon Ralph and the boys were talking about the possible make up of the final 8 this year.

Ralph mentioned 3 teams that simply will not play finals this year - Carlton, Brisbane, and Melbourne. He then went on to mention that while he gives the Dons a slight chance, he said they'll probably miss out in the end.

So basically he rates us lower than a side that will be missing 10 of their best 22 all season.

Please prove him wrong, Dees!

Reversing Ralphy's truck will be backing up sooner than he thinks.  Just wait for the reversing beeps.

he may well be right,  certainly that none of the 3 teams will make finals.

But regarding rating the bummers above us at this point,  may be right,,,   at least the 1st half of the season...

I think we will start to click better in the 2nd half season when we have more talent in.   Based on our form preseason,  & the first 2 games,  & also what we have to come into the side yet.

Wonder if Ralphy knows the answer to this one: "Does retiring from AFL Football mean that one does not have to give the Brownlow back?"

I would presume you can't be made to give the medal back, but that the AFL could strip you of the honour in their records.

That's the key isn't it? We should've beaten them on the weekend as well.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
