Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Christian Petracca's toe injury (in full training)

If the rumour wasn't posted here first I'd be furious.  Must say though I was dreading the worst when I read the OP, so a four week lay off is almost a relief when I though it was season ending.

Roos sounded angry though... there'll be a-talkin-to going on.

A little crack in his picky toe. Everyone needs to calm down. Not ideal, but gee, stop acting like it's major.

Many of us posted when the thread said "foot", champ.

EDIT: it still does.  Perhaps someone should change the title of the thread.

True, but why not just wait until the club says something? A broken food is pretty significant, sometimes worse than an ACL. A broken pinky toe is really nothing. I'm sure that if it were late in the season and we were in finals contention, he'd get a few jabs and would be playing.

Roos looked mad.

Because I responded after Petracca's tweet confirmed the injury.

But I still thought foot, as opposed to toe.

Frost missed the whole year pretty much, with a toe

Besides, there is still the golden ticket factor. Even if he's out for just 4, that will be more than enough for half the people here to excuse him for doing nothing all season.

Either the preparation of pre-season is crucial, or it isn't - folks can't have it both ways.

He's a 2nd year kid coming of an ACL who was only doing limited main group training. He wasn't going to have a fully mature fit body regardless.

Swimming? Cycling in a moon boot? Seated boxing? Upper body weights?

If he heals up in 4 weeks he'll be fine. Maybe worry about the disaster if it happens and if you're still alive then.

Let's hope this isn't a Frost toe.

He's young but he definitely needs to learn not to take risks. We pay him lots of money to play footy, not to play backyard basketball with his mates.

Are you serious?! Can't believe how many people have the same opinion as you on this. He's an athlete playing sport in his off-time- what do you expect he does?!?!

"Sorry sir, you're on 70k a year and a bunch of middle age Melbourne supporters rely on you being good to keep their life sane so no sport or potential risk of injury other than AFL all year round."

I get everyone is upset that he's missing pre-season, as am I, but surely we can recognise that part of playing good football is not just a good football club but it's happiness outside of football as well. I only hope he was shooting hoops with Brayshaw, Hoges and Viney as they enjoyed a cold beverage building a friendship.

The way I see it, it's 4-6 weeks of preseason where he almost certainly can't reinjure his ACL.

That's how I lift the veil of negativity, right Roosy?

You can accept training and in game injuries. They happen. But these sorts of injuries are inexcusable quite frankly. Roos has every right to be shitty.

These sorts of injuries are inexcusable!?

He was shooting a basketball in his backyard!! On his time off!! Holy moly

Not ideal but boxing, swimming, battle rope, kettle bells, rowing, arm bike, therabands, upper-body weights, non-weight baring treadmills will all help keep his heart rate up.

The fact that he's on a limited program coming off an ACL is probably worse from my perspective. What if he ruptured his ACL again playing a backyard game of basketball? He probably shouldn't be doing it at this stage of his recovery. If I was on serious coin playing pro footy I would personally think twice about taking part in sport outside of club training & matchday.

I'm not [censored] about the injury. I'm [censored] about how he did it.

In the US, most athletes aren't allowed to engage in physical activity outside of that approved by the team. When they do, they need a team approved trainer with them.

Michael Jordan had the famous "For The Love Of The Game" clause in his contract (that's where the saying comes from) that permitted him to play basketball whenever he wanted under any circumstance.

I find it strange that AFL clubs don't already have a "don't mess around and play backyard sport" as part of the contract. Simply telling a 20-year-old that's bouncing off the walls with energy not to play backyard sports over Christmas isn't enough.

No doubt that if any club put this in the contract, the AFLPA would breathe fire down their necks.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
