[censored]. utter [censored]. And i don't say that lightly.

I can't believe the hate for Col. Bizarre. 150 games for our club. 150 games. More than 10 seasons playing in the red and blue and he deserves vitriol because he didn't reach his potential and was a party boy? he cheapens life membership? Really?

Adam Yze, Russel Robertson and Travis Johnston. All life members. All players who it has been argued could have got more out of their talent if they worked harder. All party boys apparently. Do they cheapen the life membership?

yup, couldn't agree more binman. just pure mean-spirited churlishness

Colin was well paid for his 10 years of service.

I am not suprised he signed 2 contracts during that time, easy money considering the work he did on MATCH DAY...(which is what he is paid for really) the rest is just off shoots of that...

No other club would have offered him the security the MFC did...A Basket Case taking care of a Basket Case...Col sort of summed up that whole dark time to me

Never got out of 2nd gear...Like the Club

But Col will be the one partying the Longest and Hardest when the 13th Flag is won

Free Booze....You Bet....

Bloody hell SWYL.      You post some crap sometimes.   I wonder why you are a member these days given how unhappy you are with the state of things.

I know......It was all Cam's fault

The three names you mentioned actually had presence come game day.

Please don't forget his moment of glory kicking his girlfriend while she was on the ground.

Got found out at Freo when he was actually required to put in some effort.

Dont panic the AA has also been cheapened along with the Brownlow, the only thing that matters is winning the flag.

What part of "10 years service" don't you get ?

If you want to lobby the club to change its rules then knock yourself out.

???   I was being a bit sarcastic did you read my previous posts?

I know the point you're making and agree with it, however, it's most unfair on Yze and Robertson to be mentioned in this conversation.

Over a 4 year period Yze had the most kicks in the entire AFL, he won a B&F and made AA.  He'd occasionally frustrate me, but he had a fine career in anyone's language.

And Russell Robertson also won a B&F, should have made AA when he kicked over 70 goals, and was 4 times leading goal kicker.  He's also known as one of the games great high marks.  For a player who was ultimately demoted and came back through the rookie draft he too milked the most of his God-given talents.

Both players achieved 200 game milestones.

Yep, good points well made. I had forgotten yze made AA and he was always one of my favorite players. We could do with some players who kick as accurately as he could. You're also probably right about robbo. Both however were definitely part boys.

Good question.

i may be wrong but I think Yze's 200+ consecutive games, one sided glove and precision kicking can be explained due to Adem being part robot

Robbo was born in a small country town but had a love for the big stage, wore his heart on his sleeve and was, I believe, part Peter Allen

Hope this helps

Both contributed in their 100+ games so have know qualms regarding their life membership and if they have sons (or daughters) they may contribute in the future also.

Also when you think of their contributions on their departures to other clubs

C Sylvia for Bernie Vince

J Rivers (& B Maloney) for Dean Kent

So bravo to Col and Jared I wish them both the best in the future. ????????

Robbo bled for Melbourne, and still does. The work he does in sales and sponsorship is amazing. It would be great if Loin Chop put something back into the club that made him a household name.

I'm sure RR is getting a nice bit of coin for a very easy gig

And for your information Col did a lot of behind the scene work with Royal children hospital and would give up his own time to go in and cheer up sick kids and spend quality time with them. In fact he won some off field award at the Best and Fairest for his charity work through the club.

Are you sure that wasn't "community service" for his off field stuff ups?  There were many.

My opinions on the three life memberships:

Nate Jones: Very deserving. Like Nathan Buckley and Matthew Pavlich before him, the football world will be delighted when this bloke finally gets to play in a winning team.

Jared Rivers: Some might say he should be persona non grata. I disagree with this sentiment. Unlike others, Riv never dropped his head during that first year of Neeld. He was a loyal soldier until the end. Life membership is richly deserved.

Colin Sylvia: I am not overly bitter about this as some might think upon reading this assessment. My opinion of Col's life membership is more one of resignation.
As others have said, if Col had been drafted into a decent culture, he wouldn't have lasted as long as he did in the AFL system. This was demonstrated by his Freo experience. If your culture is strong enough, you don't have to put up with those kind of blokes.
Sadly, ours wasn't. Col, on the numbers alone, deserves his life membership. On the intangibles, I'm not so sure.
All the best to him to be honest. It would be nice to see him at games. Just keep him away from our young impressionable kids and firmly at the bullring bar.

Not a fan of Col but he was at the club for 10 seasons and played 150 games. IMO that should be enough for life membership. He was a stalwart of the club and if people remember, he re-signed TWICE between 2008 and 2012, despite the club being in the pits.

I don't think "not fulfilling potential" or "getting [censored] drunk every now and then" disqualifies you from being honoured for your loyalty.

Some of you need to lighten the hell up.

He never left in 08 and 2012 because he knew what the end result would be, I watched him train many times at casey and his training standards were pathetic but he achieved 10 years and probably around 3.5 million out of the club so good luck to him, Vince is everything Colin isn't but congrats for lagging at the back of the pack at training for 10 years and giving the fans that paid your wages nothing in return

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
