If they start stalling in the race to hit 40k I'll be buying an additional membership to add to the numbers (digital membership maybe?) It's more of a psychological barrier than anything else, to be able to say you've tipped over 40k is an achievement, looks better when marketing yourself to sponsors and gets more people thinking they'll jump on to join the ride. All going well if we start to hit our straps over the next few years I can't see any reason why we wouldn't be able to use this as a base and target 50k members which would be a massive achievement for the club.

Nb. Does anyone know whether they break it down to "unique" members? For instance if I buy 3 memberships, when going out to sponsors they obviously won't care if we've got 40k members if it's only 30k unique members.

Dr. the 40 000 mark will be decided on Sunday by about 4pm.

Win by a big margin and it is in the bag.

Scrap home or Lose and you can put away the glasses.

that is it. As the city of Melbourne increases in population Nought should get smaller.

North, both my kids are North members, will never go but North was offering free memberships at my kids school, the next week their free membership rocked up.

Its slowly moving upward.  With a bit of luck we can still make 40,000 before the cut off date of 31, July.

On a slightly different but vaguely related note - has anyone seen the MFC 'We are Melbourne' ad aired anywhere during the season?  I really liked it.  A targeted advertising blitz might really help membership numbers.

Ha! Turned out it was indeed. Still not there. Hope they do display this number for your sake when it gets there.

Up 39 from Monday.

If only they were standing outside the "G" selling memberships after the match then we might collect a few more after a win like Saturday. Convinced that there are as many if not more potential members likely to respond after a good win than before (when the result is in doubt)! I am sure that it would mean more than 30-40 a day.

There is a problem with this idea CBD I suggest to you that 99% of people who go to watch the Dees at present are members.

We may have more supporters but they seldom go to games so they will not buy after a game.

WE need to expand the base to get over 40, 000 members so the secret not that it is really a secret is to win games and play finals.

People like to belong to a successful team.

What we have now is close to the total for 2016.

Keep winning this year and start 2017 well and the numbers will go past 40 000.

People are delusional if they think we can break the 40k barrier this year. Only a month to go before membership cut-off and we have been performing relatively well over the course of the season so far.

Our losses against the Bombers and Saints prevented any chance of us getting to 40,000 this year. Costly losses, in more ways than one.

On a lighter note, if we continue to improve for the rest of the year, we will not only break through the 40k barrier, but give 45,000 a real shake in 2017.

I'd say if we win this week and then have a crack at the Hawks..by the Queens Birthday game we will have 40,000 members. I note that the club has followed the lead of many other clubs and now offer a 3 game membership which gives access to the QB game..it's $99.00 and there is no reason why people who are going to that game wouldn't buy a membership...

Just for the record, the cut-off date is July 31 so 2 months to go.  Point #8 on the enclosesd:  https://membership.melbournefc.com.au/terms-and-conditions

Agreed!  In addition to Pies we then have home games vs GC, Crows and Hawks so some good value games to choose from with a 3 game membership.

Plenty of opportunity to get to the 40,000!  It would be great for PJ to go to sponsors with that number especially as our main sponsorship (AHG) is up for renewal this year.
