Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Jack Watts in 2016?

He'll be in for round 1. Roos is a big one for experience and while Jack is disappointing at times, he is now an experienced player. Some may say it's an indictment on him that he is now an experienced player yet has achieved so little.

Whether he stays in the first 22 is a different matter altogether. Keep in mind that he is in the last year of a 3 year deal.

If he hits a bad patch of form, does Roos drop him and potentially get nothing if he walks via free agency (and is he a restricted free agent as well)? Does he get delisted full stop? Do we do a sign and trade?

Possible this is his last season at MFC. If he doesn't improve he may well get delisted as it appears his trade value is fairly low.

If he does improve a bit and attracts interest as a free agent then MFC may not wish to match an offer from a club looking for that cream on top type player.

Regardless, its setting up for a fascinating stage of his career.

Next year the coaching staff need to leave Watts inside the forward 50 and told he has 10 weeka to show why we drafted him as a forward. No more shedding weight in the expense of playing in the midfield. Club needs to just back him in one position and told be creative and kick goals.

Bang. Could not agree more DD. If they're going to "make him or break him" then do it in the one position he's shown the most promise, has the best skill set for, and would be the handiest for us to have work as a team.

IF Watts can become ferocious at the contest, he will be elite.

I get that this will involve a monumental change and that, without being hard at the ball these days, elite talent does not translate into being an elite player, but that's all that's required IMO.

Brad Green turned himself from a softish player into a madman at the contest. It can be done.

It's really only you. Now to your question...

It's French typesetting. Some like it, others don't. Naturally, you can please yourself.

Now your turn ... I'd lay London to a brick you're an only child with these personality traits. Confirm ?

I would've picked that too, that or one older sister.

I have nothing else to add to this Jack Watts thread other than stuie is a [censored].

As DD said, i reckon the coaches need to give up on trying to turn him in to BJ and stick him forward. He's got great footy smarts , just needs that crunt in him.

Green showed complete disregard for his safety later in his career when he committed to the contest. loved it

I, personally, don't ever think about the hidden reasons why people on here are the way they are.

And your personality is somewhat distorted by being anonymous and the words occasionally misunderstood through the lack of tone in text...

Green improved his physicality over the course of his career no doubt and this was highlighted especially by his 'running back with the flight' style marks and spoils that stick in my mind as something that clearly weren't acts that he attempted from the get-go. In the first few years of his career he certainly did look timid and played without a 'presence'. But through the middle and toward the end of his career, regardless of his weaknesses as a player, you could certainly see a visible change in the way he played and he began to play with an assertiveness that clearly gave him the confidence to go for those types of marks and spoils.

You hope that all players will improve that aspect of their game as they grow both in age and games experience and this is all we can hope with Watts.

Levels of fearlessness, physicality, competitive nature, aggressiveness etc, etc vary in all players. On one end of the spectrum you have players like Jack Viney and Joel Selwood who possess these traits in spades. The antithesis of these two are players like Watts and Grant. (Please refrain from pointing out that Watts is '10 times the player Grant is' as it's completely missing the point).

Grant is the perfect example of a player who cleary hadn't improved in the areas I'm talking about. Aspects of the game in which the game itself demands a certain level of. I seem always read posts trying to pointing out that 'Watts will never be a pack crashing/bone crunching/rib tickling player'. Something that would have been fairly obvious from day one. Does it mean he's exempt from ever having to display or improve in these areas he lacks? From what I read about Jack these days, it honestly seems like there are posters who believe so. Which only further highlights the task he's facing.

I want Jack to succeed. But time is running out as our list improves and the club moves forward.

Next year, he must show more of a presence and consistently improve in his physical approach to the game.

If not, I fear the worst for him.

You'd have Trengove instead of Watts?? Nup never. Trengove is a long way back in my estimation for a call up, I believe any pace he had will now be gone due to injury, and I would much rather give Jack Watts first opportunity playing as a dangerous forward in an improved line up.

If Jack Watts clicks early, being such a very good ball user and accurate goal kicker watch out!! Many on here to eat their words and opposition coaches to have to put some time into him. I hope so!

Regardless of JW, how about waiting and seeing what Trengove produces in the preseason?

It is premature to write him off, write off his pace, just as it is to lock him in for a top season.

OMG some people just love to prejudge.

I've never understood why people do it.

Why would you, as a supporter, essentially will Trenners to failure? It doesn't make sense. It's not like we have any say in the planning. So why not just hope for the best outcome?

Who knows what will happen with him post-surgery, but surely you'd think positively until he's ruled out. A fit and firing Trenners is a more than handy player. That's what I'm hoping to see next season. As a supporter of him and the team.

Imagine if Watts could take the role that Dawes plays off him.

He's a better mark than Dawes

More agile

Faster

Better decision maker

More accurate field and goal kicking

etc

Just needs to bulk up and get feral.

It goes without saying that 'Desire' is they key ingredient of AFL players.

Yeah, it just sticks out like dogs balls playing elite level footy.

agree Jack Watts could be the key to our progress. He should be a floating forward and look to support Jesse Hogan. He can use his athletic ability to run defenders up and down.

It genuinely shocks me that there are supporters who still hold this view.

Let it go. For your and Jack's sake.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
