If it's such a simple deal (Melksham for 25), why is it taking so long?

No one said its a simple deal but maybe our 2nd round pick we are trading hasn't been acquired yet. Maybe there is another trade (ie for Howe) that will deliver us a different 2nd round pick, say pick 35. Just sayin...

Jeepers it's quiet.

I thought the Dangerfield deal yesterday would really get the ball rolling in terms of trades.

I guess when half of the proposed trades involve Collingwood and Essendon, it tends to slow up the process for everybody

That's my point. Clearly, we're not giving in for just pick 25. And they don't like it.

I assume it's because we're after a second round pick in exchange for Howe and if Howe is on his way to GCS they're likely to have more than one second-rounder to trade.

Frankly I don't get the Carlisle stand off

What's so hard about:

  • 5 for Carlisle and Essendon's 2nd rounder
  • Essendon's 2nd rounder to Collingwood for Freeman

That's Carlisle and Freeman for 5, surely that's fair all around?

Because Essendon need an extra second rounder - from us, for the Melksham trade - to make both these trades happen. So it's actually Carlisle and Melksham out for 5 and Freeman in, which is harder to count as a win.

It's classic Dodoro. If he digs his heels in against giving us a reasonable 3rd-rounder back in the Melksham trade, and then digs in against giving a rreasonable 2nd-rounder back to Saints in the Carlisle deal, he can then hold up us and Saints and Pies. And then whatever trades the Saints & Pies were planning for the 2nd-rounders they get from Essendon (Aish? .

Dodoro's in exactly the place he likes best - the piece of s*** that blocks the whole drain!

I am amazed that after 800 odd posts, D'Landers only just got onto the WADA issue.

We contributed to about 20,000 + posts on the drug saga over 2 years, then we forget to bring up the fact that the guy we are thinking of recruiting is one of the infamous 34.

That is assuming he is on the list of offenders.

Or what is the evidence he has given during the player interviews.

Personally I can't believe " The New Dee's" would get this past Jacko.

He after all is responsible ultimately.

Has anyone from D'Land have a real connection with the club and have asked the question?

What are you talking about Barney, the WADA thing has been mentioned since page 1 and discussed in depth.

Talking about the Melksham thread, not this one.

Today cost me a lot in data for absolutely nothing. Need to try and tune out...

I know the feeling. My productivity at work has probably dropped about 30% due to constantly checking up on trade news... again, for absolutely nothing.

My apologies, I have been on holidays up in the non AFL state of QLD.

I am only getting my head around this BS.

My question still stands, has anyone asked the club?

You forget one critical issue here

Or alternatively maybe St Kilda are being a bit more realistic in not wanting to give up a pick as early as 5 for either of those 2 players, trying to get hold of 2 late-teens-ish picks and keep their top 5 pick?

Nah, probably still Dodoro & Essendon...

Just listening to Barrett and Wallace, these blokes are just whingers. Barrett is so black and white in his thinking, and Wallace, I see why he bungled the Franklin trade when he was coach, he doesn't seem to have much of a clue.

From the age:

3:49pm:

Melbourne look more and more likely to snare Collingwood's wantaway Ben Kennedy.

Kennedy, 21, was selected at pick 19 in the 2013 AFL draft, and has played 20 games with Collingwood in two seasons.

Kennedy has met with Melbourne's recruiting team and told coach Nathan Buckley that he wants to be traded to the club. How both teams make that happen is the next bit, with some speculation today Collingwood might be satisfied with Melbourne's second-round pick.

Could it be we cant do Melksham just yet because of this?

Probably waiting to see what we get for Toumpas and Howe. Won't know the total picture until all deals are done. Looks like we are after 3 players who will all command 2nd round picks. So we have to get at least that for Toumpas and Howe for all 3 to go through.

End of day 2 and nothing has happened!

Saw this in the Age: "Zero Hanger understands that St Kilda was looking at recruiting Brisbane defenderJordon Bourke before Jake Carlisle became available and it is entirely possible they will revert back to that plan if they cannot achieve a worthwhile trade with Essendon, who stand to lose their star key position player for nothing".

Would love to see this happen...then that Dodo at Ess will rue the day he decided to be such a pain in the backside.
Double this perverse delight if Dodo holds up our trade for Melksham and we take our money elsewhere!!

Nah I don't think the club has thought of that. Gee won't they be surprised when he is suspended for 12 months.

What strikes me as very odd ( and yet not ) is that the entire industry seems one in silence over this. Its like there's a gag in place..(possible perhaps )

Having said that and given the nature of the net you'd think at least one renegade would prod and poke this discussion.

It's just not on anyone's radar and I fail to understand why.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
