Who is the 'Big Fish'?

We are getting Prestia next year if my mail is correct.

If he is to chose mfc next year, why don't we just trade next years 1st rnd pick plus something/someone and take him now?

The price will be the same...only diff is we get him a year early.

Not doubting your mail but I just wonder why he or GCS want him to stay one more year when they could be giving someone else games who will be part of their long term future.

I would like to see people at the club stop saying we 'are not a destination club'.

While it may be true I see no point in publicly reinforcing that perception.

Its creates such a negative impression.

And, if we believe that about ourselves its no surprise outsiders believe it and that 'Big Fish' type players believe it.

We don't hear other low ladder clubs say that and it would be equally true.

DL posters will say if we win games things will change and I agree.

But in the meantime our spokespeople, namely Roos, Mahoney need to stop saying negative stuff like that.

You missed the point Wise...their mutterings are talking the club down in public.

My comments (many are positive) on DL are confined to readers of this forum they are not public.

By the way what you see as negative others see as realistic and constructive.

I'm not potting, it's just what I see. Go back through most of your posts on here during trade week and all you've done is talk negatively about what we have done or what you think we should have done. How you can be negative about things that have only just occurred is beyond me but, hey, if that's how you want to view it then go right ahead and take a simplistic view instead of a long term one. Thankfully Roos and co. have taken the latter.

And we aren't a destination club. It's the truth and if we said otherwise everyone would know we're just yanking their chain. We are getting there, but further wins, further proof that the culture is much better than before and continued stability off the field will make us a club players want to play for regardless of where we have come from.

Because another year like the one gone for GCS would be disastrous. Bad enough that GWS have gone past them, but they can't afford to lose further ground. They've already lost Dixon & Bennell this year, could not lose anymore, regardless of whether they walk at the end of '16.

Two reasons why they are keeping him this year:

1- always a chance to change his mind. If they do well and we don't for example, which could well happen, he may choose to stay

2- his injury right now would be lowering his value. If he gets fit next season, he's still not a free agent and all of a sudden he's worth even more

You're under the assumption we bothered chasing either player. As far as we know we were never, ever linked to either, so they didn't have a chance to turn us down.

Plus Boyd is on ridiculous money at the Bulldogs and is struggling already, while it wouldn't be unfair to suggest that there is still a question mark over Carlisle and his attitude. Plus he is going to be making $650k a year with the Saints, and frankly I don't think any poster here would be comfortable paying him that when we have some seriously talented players about to come out of contract in the next couple of seasons. And not to mention trying to sign Hogan up long term as well.

When the trade period finishes we will have convinced at least three (I'm throwing Bugg in the mix here) players to come and play for us. This is on top of other guys like Tyson, Vince and Garlett who were more than happy to come and play for us as well.

We aren't a destination club for the A grade type players, and rightly so. We're coming from a long way back. But if someone like a Treloar announces he wants to come home next year, or in 2017, putting more wins on the board and ticking more boxes off the field WILL make us a destination club. That's fact.

I agree. Gawn, Vandenberg, TMac, Tyson, Frost, Kent, Viney, Hogan, JKH, Salem, Harmes, Petracca, Brayshaw, ANB and Stretch are all under 24 with oodles of good footy ahead of them. Amongst that lot we should have a quality FF, CHB and Ruck and 5-6 gun midfielders. We have an impressive stable to work with and have shown a bump in improvement each of the last two years on and off the field. We should be putting this in everyone's faces a little bit more instead of continuing to act so... sniveling.

We've clearly chased certain players over the past few years and not had any luck. Whether or not it's these 2 is irrelevant, I just used them as examples. Boyd was the most high profile trade last year (despite what he's done this year) & Carlisle probably the best player behind Danger and maybe Treloar that moved this year. Clearly we've had a crack at these or others, or they wouldn't have had said the line about us being a destination club.

I have no problem with the players we've brought in. I think all will be able to add something to the team. I do have a problem with Roos & Mahoney talking about 'opening the war chest to target an A grade midfielder at year end,' but when we come up empty handed again, trotting out the line about not being a destination club.

At the start of the season David King was really pumping us up and on the other hand saying the Saints wouldn't win a game. Our season was inconsistent and they won some games.

In the eyes of the media this looks like they are on the rise and we have stalled.

Pretty much all teams on the improve have a lacklustre season, look at both Geelong and Hawthorn where both Thompson & Clarkson were under pressure because of game plan and lack of results.

I wouldn't be surprised to see us jump the dogs, pies, tiges and a few others in 2016.

This is a roundabout way of saying I think we will surprise next season and get some more positive coverage which will flow through the supporters, sponsors etc.

The negativity around the club and media will not stop.

Jacko said that there is no negativity within the club.

Yet Mahoney says we still aren't a viable destination for players.
