Why aren't hawthorn players talked about as trade possibilities?

There must be good players who are not getting regular games, and good players who could earn stacks more elsewhere.

I don't mind Schoenmakers as a 2nd/3rd tall forward. Surely he would like more game time?

This thread is a red herring

Does he wear a leatherjacket?

I think Selwood could be a bit of a roughy to end up with us.

David Swallow

surely Swallow is more likely to settle in a swans, eagles, crows, or hawks nest, than to dive on our hell pool ?

I voted Josh Kennedy. Love the way he goes about it.

A couple of weeks back I checked Josh Kennedy's age, & thought that puts him out of our picture;

..... but with our dearth of leaders & lack of real talent in our +27 Yr bracket, I checked again a few days back on his contract status, & started to think the idea of Josh Kennedy from the Swans, could really help us sort out our culture & leadership issues, even if for only 3 or 4 seasons.

I don't think we could do any better to help us get a move along than to do a deal for his services. he is contracted, but the Swans do have salary cap issues, & have so many elite Mids coming through that they have to try to keep happy, & on their books.

maybe, but he's not what i'm herring

wadda you know dc?

There have been a few 'big fish' caught in this thread already.

do carp on wise

I think I'll just open this thread tomorrow and trawl through it then.

there's bound to lots of by-catch, in these broad trawling threads. lets hope JTaylor is environmentally sound when it comes to trawling the AFL c-scape for the best catch.

Andrew gaff.

the eagle's landed him, in 2014, And' put him in the bag, til end of 2016.

Hogan is currently contracted on his current rate for two more seasons.

Doors/Grimes/Watts are all out of contract at the end of 2016. I'm guessing about 1.3 mil will be freed up.

Tmac will get some of that in his new contract.

Young players like Brayshaw/Petracca would be on minimum as 1st/2nd year players.

Jones contract is hopefully front loaded.

Whatever H is getting he's over paid.

Young players who will be guns get their payday about 22-23 - 28. Treloar being a great current example.

Hogan is 20, 22 in 2017, that's when his payday will come.

The club has done its numbers and thinks considering we have a young side we have a window to offer up big $$$$ and shake someone from the tree.

Thinking out loud, we missed on Danger, rather than target the best player at each club what about a second tier like a Steele Sidebottom(or someone similar).

dat phat laDee hasn't sung. yet

Shuey would be handy...

can he kick & handball well, off both feet ?

Apparently it's a very dangerous fish caught a couple of k's west of Fairhaven Surf Lifesaving Club.

I can believe this, in the topsy turvy games world of modern AFL... I'm holding fast to this idea with baited breath. a dangerous fish you say, & this fish can become rednblue through & through?

Shoemaker is happy playing back up at hawks, he rather be around greatness then having more playing time, not the type a club needs to improve, we won't land a big fish, and i would not vote for anyone on that list because bennall is trouble, and the others are just pipe dreams.

There is talk that we can't spend big cap space on a "big fish" because we need to keep the money for Hogan, but given that Hogan is contacted for the next two years I reckon one of the best ways to get him to sign that extension is to land a big fish midfielder who will deliver to him up forward.

We have plenty of cap room, just front load the contract for the first two years.

Im sure Melk's wouldn't mind his first two years being bigger in pay, he is the big fish yeah?

Josh Kennedy (Swans), who would have to be front ended, for a 4 or 5 year contract. this helps the swans from their cap dilemma & to keep their young guns. I think they could be interested?

http://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/pp-sydney-swans--josh-p--kennedy

.... he is a leader we need, & his age bracket actually works with Hogans contract timeframe, if JK's contract is loaded to the front end.

James Sicily would be a good get to play the 3rd tall forward role who pushes up into the midfield.

Also Jed Anderson as a line breaking midfielder. Either would be good.

I'm going for a double.

Pick 6 in this years draft from Kennedy from the Swans. Reason being Swans need early draft picks to have enough points to pick up Mills i think it is and Dunkley in the draft through Academy selection and father/son.

We'll also trade Howe and our first round pick of next year for O'Meara. Reason being Suns will know he's out the door end of 2016 and they wont want to risk another injury effected year lowering his trade value. So they'll take a 1st round pick in next years strong draft and a promoters dream in Howe.

Decided to amend my prediction of above.

Pick 6 in this years draft for Tippett from the Swans. Reason being Swans need early draft picks to have enough points to pick up Mills i think it is and Dunkley in the draft through Academy selection and father/son. The Tippett/Franklin experiment hasn't been working for them and they'll stick with Buddy all the way. Been some rumblings Tippett not entirely happy, so we could swoop which also frees up Sydney's cap whcih they need.

We'll also trade Howe, Grimes and our first & second round pick of next year for O'Meara, Gorringe & Gold Coast third round pick next year and fourth round pick this year. Reason being Suns will know O'Meara's out the door end of 2016 and they wont want to risk another injury effected year lowering his trade value. So they'll take a 1st & 2nd round picks in next years strong draft, a promoters dream in Howe plus an experienced Grimes to help with their leadership.

Surely a big factor in any likelihood of 'big fish' movement is next years free agency.

Clubs seem generally to want to trade players before they walk for pitiful compensation - that mood will only be increased by Dangerfield's departure.

Brisbane's Redden is already on the move a year early. As is Yarran from Carlton.

Other possible big fish going FA in 2016, with an (!) next to what I'd call dream targets, are -

Daniel Rich

Scott Pendlebury

Steel Sidebottom (!)

Cale Hooker

Todd Goldstein

Jack Ziebell

Hamish Hartlett

Jack Riewoldt

David Armitage (!)

Dan Hannebery (!)

Kieran Jack

This could be out of date a bit, but you get the picture. Lots to work with and really, anyone is guessing.

Jack Riewoldt 'for the lols', just to watch Richmond fans turn inside out.

I won't be gutted if we don't land an A grade mid, even if Roos has continually said we need one.

We lack depth players more than anything. The fellas let go so far aren't considered depth in the eyes of the coaches and most would agree. We need a list that can maintain a performance standard once injuries start to take their toll. Our best 22 will be starting to get some playing time together by the end of this year and I'm more confident than ever that if fit, we can push into finals.

Draft/trade some decent depth players first and foremost.

Yup. Depth is more important than anything for the list at this stage. Landing an A grader will be great but wont amount to anything if we have to continually top the team up each week with VFL standard footballers each week.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
