Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

2015 Player Review - # 1 Jesse Hogan

Demonland

Recommended Posts

"Hogan was one of Melbournes great stories to emerge this year and stamped himself as one of the most exciting young players in the competition. He finished the season with 44 goals an outstanding effort from a key forward in his debut year. Hogan also won the NAB AFL Rising Star earlier in the week with 49 votes eight ahead of runner-up Patrick Cripps".

Tie me to the stake and set me on fire but, at the start of the season, I didn't have the same belief in Jesse as many on here did.

I thought that his kicking action would be found wanting in both distance and accuracy and he seemed to two grab marks which I thought would be a big liability in the top grade. Jesse was also always going to get the oppositions best or second best defender, was shorter than some of the new age forwards (Daniher, Moore, Boyd) and I thought would naturally struggle against mature bodies. Crucially, he was also a year out of the game. I figured a 10-15 goal season would be a good platform for future years.

He then goes onto kick 44.19, including a couple from on the 50m line. He makes most of the competitions best defenders look a bit second rate and is far more mobile than some of his taller contemporaries. His work further up the ground was a revelation to me as was his field kicking which is probably in the top half dozen in the team. But easily his hugest accomplishment was his contested marking. For a first year player to get 3rd in the entire comp is extraordinary. A number of times this year he ended up with the ball in his hands when he had absolutely no right to. Whilst he has said he wants to create his own brand there were things he was doing, in his first year mind you, that were reminiscent of Carey who I regard as one of the top two players I have seen

Apparently Jesse is also the 1,313th player to have pulled on the Melbourne guernsey. For some reason I can't explain I consider this to be a very auspicious number and a clear sign of greatness

Potentially his career tally of goals.

I'm not overly surprised by his debut year. Anyone that saw him in the flesh at Etihad Stadium against North in February 2013 knew we had a very special player on our hands. He had an aura about him even then. It's just a shame we had to wait longer than expected to see him in the real stuff.

Hogan won't do it. His best position is CHF where he can use his superior endurance.

I would have thought he would potentially be capable of 70 - 80 in a very good season, but with Garlett running around adding 40 - 50, does it really matter?

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.
