If they didnt want to keep him they wouldn't offer him a contract, they would just trade him.

Not necessarily. They could just be low-balling him, as we're probably doing with Howe and potentially Garland.

theyre playing games me thinks

Hardly would be, at current Essendon can ill afford to get rid of players with potential even if they have been sub performing. The list has suffered from the draft sanctions, poor list management and lack of actual quality footballers. Whilst Melksham is no superstar he is still a top 10 talent who has shown some potential to be a decent footballer. No games what soever they would much rather him on their list than traded.

No Melksham please, especially if he is banned for 2 out of a wasted 4 year contract

this is a bit that actually concerns me. Doesnt the club give any credence to the current WADA appeal.. Do they not understand it

Essendon wanted wines or wingard and a first rounder for ryder...

They will demand hogan, brayshaw or mcdonald

Yeh and we'll say no...

Essendon ended up getting picks 17 and 37 in exchange for Ryder. A fair trade off in the end in my eyes.

WGAF what they ask for? We'll either work out a deal that works for us, or he stays at Essendon?

Big whoop.

Essendon are notorious for dealing with in October...

Hope he is comfortable going through the draft.

For the security of a 4 year contract, he may well be.

Wonder if any of the clubs selecting before us in the PSD would have any interest. Doubt the interstaters would and Carlton may try and force Carlisle into the PSD.

Jack Watts had at least as good/better year than this C-grader. Same possessions, more marks, similar goals and overall rating.

This tells me that we just can't attract anything decent.

It falls into the category: We must do something, this is something, therefore, we must do this.

How would you know who the club is interested in or talking to? The trade period doesn't even start for 2.5 weeks. Just because it's not being rumoured on SEN or in the HS doesn't mean we're not being very active behind the scenes. What rubbish.

More often than not the speculation is right.

Very often you don't hear about trades until they occur. And a lot of the time the speculation is a million miles off. Paying out on the club because we haven't been linked to every Tom, Dick and Harry at this stage? Ridiculous.

That and of itself isnt cut and dried id suggest. Theyre not going out of their way to ensure he stays.

Sounds like " yeah ..you can go"

More like: -

M: "I want out basically, frankly it's an endless joke, you haven't looked after our best interests, it's a revolving door here as far as coaches go, I don't want to be a part of this club, I need a fresh start, my footy and health has suffered, my family... - I love footy and like some others, I'm not enjoying it here"

E: "Ok, well here's a 2 year contract that we think is fair and reasonable, we think 2016 will be exciting and we look to improve and get to finals, we hope that you'll stay and remain a one club player, but you're welcome to look elsewhere at offers, if that's the way you feel. As you are entitled to. But we 'd like you to sign with us. We think we have Woosha as coach...what do you think?"

M: "The chemist {sigh}....lol?"

Because we're interested in this spud.

I'll back Goodwin, Roos and Macartney on this one, Melksham had a very impressive 2013 and 14 for the bombers, only 24, might not ever be an A grade mid that we so desperately need but, he has far more scope to work with than the like of Bail, M Jones, Mckenzie, Fitzpatrick who have well and truly shown the are way off AFL level. As long as we have still got our fingers in a few more pies and with the likes of Omeara, Prestia, Dangerfield etc then I'm cool with that.

There was probably question marks over Josh Kennedy at the Hawks and Ben Mcglyn who just looked like players and similar with Vince now look at them, not saying he definitely will but we have something to work with, we seem to be having trouble attracting quality players so we need to do something

How would Essendon supporters, club hierarchy, etc, anybody for that matter been able to judge whether or not a player was intentionally putting in enough,

or for that matter was physically or mentally able to put in enough or not. Time span. Last couple of tempestuous years. Figure?

Mad keen Bomber mate is very happy to see him leave EFC. Says he is a very frustrating footballer. Acknowledged that he was tough as nails and good in the contest but let down by his deficiencies that include:

-very inconsistent from week to week

-poor decision maker

-turnover king

-poor disposal

-dumb as d......(gratuitous)

Given comments that the Demons want a team that play hard contested footy, this selection would make sense. However, the fact that he could not get a regular game at EFC and that they are happy to let him go says a lot about his future value. His alleged deficiencies are a concern particularly if we end up trading a guy with elite disposal skills.

So Mackenzie MKII?

Watts for Melksham straight swap?

No exchange of picks, no steak knives, nothing , just a straight swap.

Done in a heartbeat..

Define regular. He played 18 this season.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
