This article, like the last one, is nothing but an excuse to have a crack at clubs he feels the competition would be better off without. His own beloved Port was virtually on the scrap heap before the AFL swept in with a multi-million dollar rescue mission. Never a whisper of that from this dope.

Am i right in thinking Port still have considerable debt issues? MFC on the other hand are getting our fiscal house in order.

Another point Russel misses is that if we continue to improve on field and win say 11 games we will average up around the 40k mark in attendance and we play most of our home games at the MCG. So actually not that unattractive after all. Particularly if you factor in that the down side for the Perth teams is that whilst they get a crowd at their home games (though i doubt they will fill a 60k stadium every game) they have to travel interstate very second week. And often have to play at crap venues like ethiad, in tassie and at Metricon.

I heard some talk on the radio on the weekend about the impact on flying from Perth to the east coast every second week. I forget who it was but they were saying that some WC players believed it shortened their career and was particularly hard on big players (which makes sense).

Add to the problems associated with a long flight the extra hassles of getting to and from the airport (geelong to Tulla anyone?), flight delays, red eye flights, problems players with certain injuries face with flying and having to spend every second week in hotel rooms and away from your own home and you start to have more than a few disincentives to play for a Perth team. And that's not even taking into account that some players hate the fishbowl effect in SA and WA.

Edit: it would be interesting to see the averga number of games played by WC and Freo players and how they fare with players reaching 200 and 300 game milestones. Is pav the only docker to have played 300?

Not spiteful like he is. Just reminding Foxtel who their audience is and why they would choose to upset them so.

I've always thought that why if you are commentating so many games of one side and you knew who your audience was that you would be so derogatory to their team. Why can't Foxtel get someone like Schwartz or a Melbourne person or someone who actually likes Melbourne to commentate Melbourne games. I mean not only were there not many at the game but the TV audience would have been low and primarily Melbourne supporters, we were happy enough because we won but when we lose and he is commentating he is boring and repetitive just sinking the boot in, quite often when the audience would again be primarily Melbourne supporters.

I'm not suggesting something like Ed TV but his commentary is like the opposite of Ed TV to a Melbourne supporter.

Hit him where it hurts and get him out of a job. It's only what he deserves.

If you're a big guy like Hogan, who has already had back issues, why would you want to catch a 4 hour flight twice a weekend every second week during the AFL season ? Glen Kakovich and other West Coast players have commented on the plane travel shortening careers.

If you're Jesse Hogan, who already started his career a little later at 20, I doubt you'd want to risk making it even shorter.

Also, perhaps someone can tell me the last genuine gun of the competition who has moved back home to Perth. And I don't mean a Josh Keenedy, who didn't want to go. And Des Headland doesn't cut it as a "gun".

That was actually the worst bit of the article - and the slight on MFC. Basically saying we were weak and would not offer him a contract because he would say no. I mean seriously what's that about? As Pro Dee we have already asked him for an extension. And surprise, surprise he agreed.

I'm sure Jesse and all of us hope that by the end of 2017 we will be making finals and pushing for top 6 finish in 2018. If that happens he gets to play in front of big crowds, play final, play at the G and be part of something special with a group of mates. If that's the case is he unlikely to want to go back home and start all over again, particularly with Freo who won't have won a flag by then.

If you take out the sold home games our average home crowd was 28,895, and that includes the GWS game.

Taking out other clubs' sold home games, the Dogs' was 24,801. St Kilda's was 27,313. North's was 29,814.

Of the four small clubs we're second for average home games in Melbourne, well in front of the Dogs who made the finals this year. In front of St Kilda who everyone thinks is so much better than we are. Only just behind North, who are still alive in the finals.

I don't remember him as a player but he played 50 games over five seasons (1987-91) for Geelong - an average of 10 games per year - which hardly puts him in "best 22 category".

Incidentally during his five seasons the Cats performances were mixed - finished well out of the finals twice (9th and 10th), missed the finals a third time.

These facts are derived from afltables.com and confirmed by australianfootball.com. (Interestingly, his elite sports properties biography claims 60 games in four seasons...some sensitivity there perhaps...which probably just goes to confirm his status as a [censored].)
