LOL Mark Thompson just said he would keep all the 30 plus players at Geelong still.. you can tell David King looks absolutely perplexed and confused as we all know this is a big issue for Geelong.. but according to Bomber it would be a mistake letting them go.

This is what happens when you let former players/coaches commentate on their former sides.

Ridiculously bias.

If you can't be unbiased, stay the [censored] out of commentating. It's what shits me about Seven's entire commentary stable: Ling, Richo, Watson, they're all ridiculously biased and spend more time fondling themselves under the commentary desk than calling the match.

Oh, and 4 goals to Menzel. What a champ.

It's why I actually (and keep this to yourselves) rate Carey. He only talks up North if they've actually deserved it.

Really happy for Menzel, as I'm sure most on here would given what we endured with Schwarz. He could not have dreamed of a better return than that. Well done, that's perseverance.

Likewise, stoked for Menzel. Kid deserves a solid run at it, no matter how much I dislike the team he plays for.

Let him be an inspiration to Petracca and Trengove, both solid kids with a good head on their shoulders who can likewise aim for a return game of such class.

'Buckley praised his players for responding after turning into "22 individuals" in a nightmare fourth quarter against Richmond last Saturday. "We spoke about pride and respect," the coach said after the easy win over the Cats.'

Buckley obviously found the magic wand to turn his team around from last week's debacle and the captain's 'meaningless' game reference.

Roos wants our players to play like maniacs or play 'angry'. But I don't think the team has enough 'aggro' for that. If they do it is often snuffed out rather quickly.

But I sure hope we have enough character to play with Pride And Respect.

Forget the result tomorrow. I would like to see what they are really made of:

Team Pride And Respect - that is what I want to see!

I must say I have some concerns about the way they're handling it, when you're talking about 250-300 game premiership legends of a footy club being pushed out the door so you can sign the current big thing it just to me doesn't sit very well.

surely they couldn't let blokes like Stevie J and Bartel just walk to different clubs.

I don't usually barrack for Collingwood but that was a result I really enjoyed.

Geelong and its bunch of arrogant tossers can go sulk about missing finals.

As for the match - let's hope our players watched what Collingwood said last week ('nothing to play for') and how they changed it to this week.

Those premiership legends (and Kelly, Stokes, Enright) would probably accept, albeit reluctantly, retiring if the $$$ went to shore up their existing talent.

Those guys forfeited big $$$ to stay together. Some may have limited earnings potential outside footy.

To now see big, big $$$ go to an 'outsider' ie Dangerfield and make him an instant millionaire, must really stick in their craw!

Maybe that is why they were so listless last night!

They certainly didn't seem to care about a final 8 spot.

Stick it up the coach, perhaps!

I can remember back in the late 50's early 60's when everyone in town was talking about going to see a game between C and M just for the hardness.

Surely the story of the week is Menzel - fantastic perseverance. Takes a load of mental courage to do that.

Good can't stand Johnson arrogant flooog.

Wish we had half his arrogance though. Whether we like it or not, it's part of the reason the bloke's a champion of the game.

Can we get Buckly to speak to our guys? Manages to get his players up in a week while we're still sooking about the ghosts of years ago- Bucks talks about pride and respect, Roos wants our players to get angry? Bucks is focussing on the right motivation at least

Maybe I've been asleep in recent weeks ( a comforting place to be) but when did the interpretation of grabbing the player who has just taken a mark get changed? There was a time when you'd get a 50m penalty for just touching him. Now it seems you can wrap your arms around him as long as it is just momentarily.

The disappointing thing is that our players should be fired up to atone for a game like we had against the Dogs without any help from Roos. Where is that pride in the jumper and the willingness to bounce back from it? Why don't they take some responsibility for their performance and work their backsides off to change it? Regardless of what else happens they should have steeled themselves to not put in such a horrible performance two weeks in a row.

I'm not absolving Roos for his involvement but it's just as much on the players as it is on Roos.

i don't mind that sue. more common sense interpretations.

often the marker ends up over (or wide of) his mark and is fair for the defender to corrall him

as long as defender doesn't overtly prevent player quickly getting back behind the mark etc

I agree. What I don't like is interpretations varying from week to week (or within a game)

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
