Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thing is Gardner has destabilised the club before and finally we have a bit of stability and he's trying it again. [censored], Paul. Take your ego out of it. Your tenure was a failure.

"Paul Roos was an amazing get and Peter Jackson needs to be congratulated on that."

"Off field with Glen and Peter Jackson, they certainly seem to have steadied the ship, which is good." - PG

Why is Gardner commenting? Who cares what he has to say? It's not like he was a past great. His comments only seek to undermine Roos, which in turn is a stab at the hierarchy of the club. He can't come out and say PJ has done a bad job, because PJ has achieved more off field than Gardner did at any time. It's calculated white anting.

don't give a toss whether gardner is right or wrong

i just want to know why he so readily pops up only when he has something negative to say

he must be mfc's mark latham

Amen

He might be correct, but for gods sake why bring more negative attention to the club?!

You Paul are exactly the type of negative supporter Roos doesn't want to hear from anymore.

Just shut it. You had your turn, you didn't succeed. Move on.

Calm down, he's hardly sinking the boot in, calling for the board to stand down, or coach to be sacked.

PG takes dozens of calls a year from journos looking for a quote after a bad loss (they don't call him after wins)... he declines to comment nine times out of 10 and in this instance it's hard to disagree with his measured commentary on the clubs current plight.

And why don't you cut a bloke some slack for missing a footy game when he was participating in a charity walk.

(You reading this too C&B and daisycutter?)

doesn't matter how you cut and dice it it, wise, but pg has come to be seen as mr negative of the mfc

he knows the media stalk him for a negative comment and he too often obliges (even if it really only is 1 out 10 times)

all he does is perpetuate and highlight a divided club to the media and public

i for one could do without his all so public "help"

just my opinion

I totally blame him the CEO & the board, he had no right to step in. As you say he didn't have the knowledge or ability to do the job. It should never have happened...

He also led the media campaign to undermine Bailey.

A dying Jim Stynes asked him to step in. Could you say no to that?

The board should not have allowed it to happen...I know Jim was a larger than life character but there were supposedly experienced business heads on that board.

They really needed to have Jim step down, he was too ill to carry out his duties.

At the very least they needed to veto Lyon coming in to the club in a role he had no qualifications to to do.

It was wrong though 'stuie', I will never forgive that board for what happened. Jimmy is not bigger than the club, no one is but no one would do the right thing.

That last line puts him in a large group.

It is a group with a lot of members

Now the successful Chairmans group is a much more exclusive membership.

Beats me why this bloke gets air time

Seems he's on speed dial when someone is lining up to give us a kick

And as for that tripe about messiah's and Barassi - no RDB didn't get us to finals. But he & Slug Jordan laid the foundations for the Northey era

Gardner gives me the irrits - whiny little dwarf

AGree. Gardner is a complete flo.g who only appears when there is trouble and he is happy to throw in a disparaging comment or two.

Having said, the article is perfectly fair and I am surprised that PG's comments were unusually reasonable. Can't really argue at all with what he said. But he should keep his trap shut. Nothing worse than an ex-president. Particularly Kennet.

Ok, important question as people start to have a crack at people like Gardner and Lyon for their opinions: Are they wrong?

Don't hold a grudge against Garry.

He said he wasn't the right guy to help us, didn't know enough about it all, but he promised his dying mate he would try. Pretty unfair to turn around and blame him for it all.

Garry was the guy that got neeld. Took Mick's word for it that he was ready to go.

First he says aiming for 7 wins was too 'modest'. Well, Bartlett and PJ have said the aim is for finals next year. They're being laughed at.

We're damned if we aim high, we're damned if we aim low. We're coming off a 4 win season. Prior to that, a 2 win season. There's no shame in aiming for 7 wins, which is more than the previous two entire seasons combined.

Combine that with the fact that, when he named players who have improved, he included Dunn and Jetta, both of whom were better last year than they were this year, and I don't have too much time for his thoughts on football.

Finally, as has been mentioned, if you want to get some respect as a commentator, don't just pop up and mouth off when things are going to sh!t, as Gardner has invariably done over the years.

I put Lloyd in the same basket. Never misses an opportunity to bag Melbourne. Everything's wrong about what we do, who we draft, how we play. Rarely says a nice thing about anything remotely related to the club.

As for his comment that our game plan is outdated, I don't agree at all. The gameplan isn't the issue. It's fine. It's the execution of the gameplan that is the issue. The gameplan doesn't require some sort of special breed of players to be able to play it. It simply requires, like every other team's, four quarter efforts, real intensity, and players who put in week after week after week.

In summary, I don't like Gardner and I detest Lloyd.

I just wish he would sit down first, before starting to open up... & be careful where you aim that thing pg, its full of it.

Fully agree with what has mostly been said on here.
Didn't Gardner at one stage put his hand up and say we were red hot on illicit drugs just after the Essendon scandal broke (which turned out to be pretty baseless)?
I'm not sure what horse he has in the race. The Stynes/McLardy board who marched him out of the building are mostly gone. Why does he still feel the need to tear down the club?

OK, PJ and PR and GB should have come out an aimed for 10 wins.

Guess what, we aimed for 7 and will get 6. Where is the transparency and honesty with promising 10 and getting 6. I can't believe the article.

Typical marketing man. Lets spin a bit and get the hopes of the natives higher....like being the next ManU of the AFL.

No wonder we became a basketcase in 2007-2013. No bloody wonder.

I'm not a Gardner supporter by any stretch but he is correct when he says aiming for 7 wins is modest. At the start of every season the aim should be to make finals, no less. You reassess as you go but to say winning 7 games is a pass is downright demoralising. No wonder the players are disenchanted when their bosses have such little faith to set such dismal targets.

Also saying that 10 wins were "promised" is disingenuous. A target is a target not a promise to supporters.

Each to their own, mate. I think 7 was a perfectly reasonable target given where we've been. I thought we'd win 6-8 games, so realistically I agreed with them. Next year for finals is aspirational.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
