Francis seems versatile but might not quite have the tank just yet for midfield. It's the thing that really separates midfield candidates in the draft. I like that he admires Goddard and Burgoyne. Both classy players who can do a bit of everything. Perhaps what Melbourne needs at the moment. A backman who can impact the midfield? If Howe is to go then he could slot right in with his marking/rebounding ability.

On the otherhand I do like Balic. I guess we will have the wait and see if Petracca can be the midfielder/forward that we hope he can be. Regardless Balic offers similar qualities as a tough half forward who can win the contested ball. Interesting.

Who does Parish compare to? Would it be fair to say he has the highest ceiling of the mids? Best case scenario with his frame being Bontempelli? He seems to love the contest too much to fall as low as Morton type.

I hate the term versatile. Francis could be another Goddard, who took years to establish himself as an impact player, and has again lost that ability at the Dons. Or Francis could be another Andrew Mackie, a highly dependable back flanker. We are craving for mids and key forwards. And I want the best that are available in those positions.

Essendon want Parish, so we can speak to him all we like but it's like GWS wanting Petracca last year. Unless he pulls a Wingard in his interview with them, I don't see it happening.

There's also the element of FA compensation picks yet to play out.

Great, so sydney pick up the best midfielder in the draft AGAIN!

who needs the draft when you have feeder academies. what a farce

this is just what we need, & I believe this is whats happening in the future re zones & development, just as I pushed for from about 2 years ago.. to also have our own zones to develop in the regions,

the AFL are picking this up.

if only they would buy that trash & treasure market at Dandenong Sth, for the SthEastern boutique stadium.

I think goddard had peaked before he left the saints. he lacks speed.

My order or preference for our pick which is looking certain to be pick 5.
1. Parish
2. Francis
3. Tucker
4. Weidemann

parish

balic

wiedeman

mathieson

francis

curnow

seem to be the ones that there's chatter about. tucker's stocks have well and truly fallen.

parish will be gone unless somehow we end of moving up a pick; isn't he the one the bombers are meant to be keen on?

if blues lose kruezer they will inevitably land a pick directly after their top pick for him, pushing us further down the draft. i personally think they should let him go - very good player but terribly injury prone.

i really like the sound of wiedeman, but hard to judge cos he's missed so much footy.

Let's not get too attached to any player until after the trade period, guys.....

Plenty to happen between now and the draft.

Wouldn't have minded Hopper if he was available. Sounds like a similar player to Wines.

We should still bid on him anyway.

Tardew's a lightly built outside runner (hb flank/wing), good left foot.

In terms of volume (possession) midfielders, Ryan Clarke and Jade Gresham rack up the touches (and tackles and decent goal numbers for Clarke too). Clarke probably a mid first rounder and still think Gresham's height will see him drop to somewhere in the 2nd rd.

I'm hoping we trade our first round pick for a quality developed AFL midfielder. If not, and having not watched TAC this year and going purely off footage, Parish looks the best of those mentioned. He seems the most well rounded, skilled and intelligent midfielder.

Curnow interests me though. I couldn't find any footage of him as he has been injured I believe? He's listed as a big forward who has played stints in the midfield. At 191cm he is too small to be a key forward at AFL level. Could he be developed into a full time midfielder? It would be great to have a big midfielder in the Fyfe/Kennedy/Watson/Pendlebury mould.
Anyone have more info on what Curnow is like as a player and if this is realistic?

You can find my write up on Parish and Curnow in the TAC Cup thread.

Got to be a MID

Parish for mine

This Draft will be a lottery after the first round

My interest is who Roos and Co delists as our depth is still terrible

My feeling is that if we finish above the Bombers, we won't get a shot at Parish.

I currently have Curnow as my next preference.

So do i. Heard rumors we are seriously considering him too?

The question now is can the Bombers beat Collingwood? I think they maybe can

We can predict that Melbourne would lose to GWS (hopefully putting up a fight)

I'm not very good with stats. Would Essendon have a better % than Melbourne?

Is there a chance we end up 15th?

If so does the question for next week become, Curnow, Parish or Balic?

So many questions...

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
