MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 18

Sadly I won't be going this week.. I've been week in, week out, travelled interstate numerous times but after the crap we have dished up the past 3 weeks I refuse to go. Only a couple of games during the Neeld era I refused to go... Knowing my luck we will pull off a miracle and win but if so I'll be enjoying it in my lounge room

Where's Salem? Is it my imagination or has he been off the injury list for the last fortnight? Also Kent was a "test" this week. I know they need to regain match fitness but I haven't heard anything about when they might return .

It was made clear that he is regaining match fitness via Casey. He played around a half last week and has been named again this week.

http://demonland.com/forums/index.php?/topic/38787-casey-scorpions-v-werribee-tigers/

I have no problem with this. As much as I want to see Salem in the senior side, it's best to be conservative.

My last game for a few weeks. Heading to Germany and then Seoul for work. I really hope they at least show up because I was away for work for the Geelong game so I haven't seen them play well since the Bulldogs game.

Looking at the Casey team is confusing. They have not named Stretch so maybe a weekend off. But have named VanDenBurg, Harmes and Neal-Bullen in their team. Surely they won't play Saturday and Sunday...

And in another show of "Progressive" team selection WHITE who absolutely starred last week picked in the development team and a on extended bench for Casey seniors.

Shows one thing!

Either

a) I have no idea , given I had this guy in the main Dees Team this week!

b) Selectors have even less idea given his sensational form of last week!

Such pessimism! There is every chance we will embarrass the Pies this week. Their form has been a bit shaky. Ours has been a little disappointing, I'll admit, but we have not lost five in a row.

Perhaps if we all say the board's prayer:

Our Nathan, who art in the middle,

Hallowed be thy game.
Thy clearing run.
Thy kick to Viney is direct,
As in the game plan.
Give us this day our Bernie Vince.
And forgive us our turnovers,
As we destroy them that wear black and white.
And lead us not into hesitation,
But deliver the ball quickly.
For Hogan is the target,

The Demons, take the glory,

For ever and ever.

Amen

Its been nearly an hour since team announcment and inly 9 replies later.. usually there is alot of activiy and banter.. is it now gotten to the point of the year where some of us just don't care anymore about team selections?

Hard to generate any enthusiasm for this game. If they do win it raises the question what happened to the effort that allowed 3 winnable games end as horrible losses.

If they lose with the Pies not having a key forward it is yet another ignominious defeat.

We only have one Chook and with a way poorer mid field does not give us any advantage.

I look at the respective teams and I cannot see a way we can kick a winning score.

Double figures seems but a dream

Why can't it be both?

Given that we have a report on the VFL players each week, it would be interesting to read the equivalent report on the AFL side.

Perhaps one of the assistant coaches could clarify the contributions being made each week by Dawes and Lumumba that are clearly too subtle for the supporters to notice.

I assume the team selection meeting went for about three seconds this week: Neal-Bullen in, Stretch out - that'll fix all our problems. See you next week.

Reverend remind me again who was the last team the Pies beat?

Can't seem to bring it to mind.

We kicked a winning score in Geelong without any KPF. If the midfield works hard and gets on top, we're a big chance. Starting well is paramount. We need to feed on their recent loses, which will hopefully add an extra mental barrier for them to overcome this week.

Yes Earl Hood there is usually a snake(s) living in the roof. Got three big dogs so life isn't too easy for them.

But the advantage is it keeps any unwanted rodents away, although they can surprise you sometimes on top of cars and in the lounge suites sleeping.

The only thing is to be aware of which is which otherwise you end up dead possibly...

We obviously played them out of form in that game. Destroyed their faith in the game plan and each other. It was a devastating victory for them. This time there's no Cloke and no White. Have faith my friend.

Flying in for my first and only live game this season.... so I am looking forward to this one.

I left Melbourne in 2008, and since then I have not seen one victory live, in fact I've seen barely anything closer than a 70 point drubbing.

My luck has to turn eventually, so I think we can get up in this one!!!

And no Oxley.

Given it was Cloke and Oxley that killed us last time, I wonder who it will be this time.

Normally love your posts but this line (one being trotted out by many others also) is utter BS

Did you want them to drop Dawes, to be replaced by absolutely nobody given that Pederson is injured?

Frost, Kent, Salem, Petracca and Trengove are also injured.

So given you wanted others dropped simply on the principle of the thing, which of the following superstars (all of whom are regularly pillored on this site of course) were you just dying to see selected in their place this week:

Newton, Michie, Kennedy-Harris, Jamar, McKenzie, Toumpas, M.Jones, Bail, Riley, Fitzpatrick, Terlich, Spencer,

Seriously?

I haven't seen a live Dees victory since the 90s.

The last one I saw live was 5 years ago today.

Doesn't help that when they come to QLD (which has only happened 4 times since), it basically costs $500 anyway.

I don't mind shelling out once a year, but hopefully its not too much to ask to be in the game at half time, this time round. Shelling out for it to be all over at half time is painful :.)

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol
