I know the change don't get one all that excited, but would people have really been that much more satisfied to see Newton or Michie added to the side at the expense of whoever doesn't get dropped out of ANB/JKH/Stretch?

The cupboard is bare until Kent and Salem come back. No point getting upset about the lack of revolving door changes.

I would prefer to see Dawes out 'Nasher'...

Being Melbourne, it is more probable that we will win this game, given we lost last week -- than the other way around.

More to that, the fact pretty much everyone around here thinks we'll lose generally suggests that we'll win.

That said, we're going to lose. And bad.

Never would have guessed...

Who would play his position? Or would you alter how the forward line functions (or doesn't function, if I can trample on a line there)?

A good mate informed me yesterday.. We need to finish with 11 wins this year just to equal the same amount of wins as Fitzroys last ten years of existsnce..

You call that a good mate?

I wouldn't use the word excited but I would like to see them given another opportunity. Grimes and Dawes have been given theirs for every reason other than their football ability. Things like leadership/play their role/ not developed properly/great public speakers are continually thrown up as to why they are getting a game or should get one. Howe is apparently playing to keep us his trade price, rival clubs know what they get with Howe whether he plays another game this year of not.

I personally would like to see Melbourne do something different. Go in with a fwd line looking something like

Garlett Watts JKH

VB Hogan Newton

Mix it up a bit, we couldn't do any worse.

Guess Roos and Goodwin want them to have a shot at redemption

Not to mention that all the replacements either arent ready for AFL or wont be on the list next year

was viney practising posters?

Maybe even taking some "Pot Shots" at practicising posters!??

He He!

Roosy thinks Grimes needs more time at Casey after missing a few weeks, but he is happy to play Howe in round 1 without a game for six months. Clearly some players are more equal than others.

Its unbelievable really.

Grimes will at least give us 20-25 possessions.

Howe will give us nothing.

Howe, whether we like it or not, will play for the rest of the season. This will be done so we can say come trade time that he is a valued member of our starting 22. Trying to lure out maximum value at the trade table.

Would not be surprised if they go with the same 22. Treat last week as an aberration.

Not one change from last weeks horror show

As if Aidan Riley would make a lick of difference to the side. Same goes for Grimes and Jamar.

None of the three mentioned seriously make us any better so we may as well go with what we have. It's not getting any better for the time being.

Grimes is a clear upgrade over Howe IMO

He's not and we're kidding ourselves if we think otherwise.

Howe will play. Dawes will play.

The sooner the majority here realise that, the better off we'll be. No one running around at Casey right now, apart from Kent in the development league, makes any difference to our side going forward. It's a term that's been thrown around a lot, but it's really just moving deck chairs. At this point it's better to pump games into the young fellas.

Yeah you're right. We should play grimes high half forward.

Like no change.

Backing the young guys. Michie Newton etc not good enough to come in so backing in stretch ANB etc. they are the future. I thought roos didn't like paying first year players?

Me bollocks

so we are now tanking?

Whose worth bringing in to the side who would improve it? Think hard about your answer.

    TRAINING: Wednesday 19th February 2025

Demonlander The Analyser was the sole Trackwatcher out at Casey Fields today to bring you the following observations from this mornings preseason training session. Training  was at Casey today. It consisted of a match simulation for one half  and then a free choice activity time. Activities included kicking for goal,  aerial , contest work etc. I noticed the following players not in match simulation Jack Viney  running laps and looks fine for round one . I think Kolt looks like he’s im

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
