Viney is a big game player. Thrives in finals and when the heat is on. It’s why he’s so valuable.

I think he's really going to thrive being skipper this time round 🙂

Superb game from Jack and imo the best game I have seen him play. One thing that stood out for me was his speed and his ability to keep his feet in tight situations. Must be in AA conversations, he has been great all season so far.

What a leader. Inspirational performance last night. Definitely his best game that I have seen. Clearly his tackles were awesome but that’s always been the case. It’s the other parts of his game that have gone to new levels that have been truely impressive. Busting out of pack, and then hitting a target, always seems to pick the right option. Getting more involved away from the stoppages too. His fends offs are getting dusty like.
I think now that he is over his foot injury (wasn’t this his first uninterrupted preseason in year?) has enabled him to be the best physical version of him we have seen. He seems to be even stronger now while also gain a yard or two of pace.
He also missed a game or two this season which I think helps him keep that level of intensity.

The herald sun gave Oliver the 3 last night. I know he had more possessions, but to me Jack was BOG by a long way. He just led this team brilliantly and his kicking was really good and set up many goals.

Nuts isn't it?  Viney and Lever universally the best two on the ground from all bar the scum.  You have to wonder if they watch the same game sometimes.

Yep, BOG for me without a doubt. Oliver was in everything but it was Viney starting it at every contest, he was almost scary in the way he attacked the ball.

Went last night with two lions and a cats supporter and half way through the game the cats supporter said to me “Viney is bullying them, they can’t stop him and he is attacking them with or without the ball.”

he was right.

yeah, nah... that was the best game I have seen Viney play!

The only other that compares off the top of my head was his game vs West Coast when TMac kicked the winner in the dying seconds.

My best mate barracks for Brisbane and would normally go with me but has Covid. He reckons his house was shaking in Hawthorn  after the Viney tackle.

Look at the Brisbane player in the background - pleading with the umpire to show some mercy and stop the game before someone dies.

LOL - my very first thought after seeing the hit was that it'd be a fresh entry into the JVMMC thread!  😆

Its like being asked to choose your favourite child, it’s just awesome having both!

I was asked that question once.  You're meant to nominate one of your own.  I know that now.

Great game, great leadership and that tackle I thought might have snapped the recipient in two but well down Coleman the way he got right back up. That's how footy should be played - hard and fair

That tackle is up in the Neitz on mcabe tier, right next to the one when he pinned that st Kilda bloke at Docklands

That has to be Jack’s best game after the GF. When he was demoted from the Captaincy I wondered how Jack would react. It would have been a tough time for him.
But i have great respect for him.
Max is the Captain and deservedly so

Jack was a Magnificent Captain last night, when the side was under some growing pressure.
The only way to dissipate that is to win strongly

Jack was the man who led

Aaaah the McCabe...that is one fine memory.

That rugby player was certainly mixing codes last night.

Outrageously great performance

Yes quite.

A better person would not tag @demon3165and remind him of his heresy and urge recantation and I am not that better person…

That was in fact, post 1 of this thread! Just watched it again, that one is definitely a 10/10 in hurt factor. Just about makes me cry watching it.

Despite many attempts of excavation, I believe Mav Weller is still somewhere beneath the turf after that one.  Brutal.

Bloody beaut..

Just extraordinary. He was still doing it all in the last quarter

that’s what i would show to new recruits…

”This is what Captain’s do”

This Package deserves discussion. This is such an incredible effort by our 2IC

Jack was brutal and focused for 4 Quarters. It is relentless. AFL Players play like this for a Quarter and get praised and rightly so.
Jack did it all night, even in the last Quarter

This is one of the greatest efforts from 1 player in the History of the MFC

I am so proud of him

Thanks for this Edit Mighty

Repeat efforts of that in the finals will mean we win the flag.

  • GAMEDAY: Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons return to the MCG to face the Tigers in their annual Blockbuster on ANZAC Eve for the 10th time. The Dees will be desperate to reignite their stuttering 2025 campaign and claim just their second win of the season. Can the Demons dig deep and find that ANZAC Spirit to snatch back to back wins?

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

A few years ago, the Melbourne Football Club produced a documentary about the decade in which it rose from its dystopic purgatory of regular thrashings to the euphoria of a premiership victory. That entire period could have been compressed in a fast motion version of the 2025 season to date as the Demons went from embarrassing basket case to glorious winner in an unexpected victory over the Dockers last Saturday. They transformed in a single week from a team that put in a pedestrian effort of predictably kicking the ball long down the line into attack that made a very ordinary Bombers outfit look like worldbeaters into a slick, fast moving side with urgency and a willingness to handball and create play with shorter kicks and by changing angles to generate an element of chaos that yielded six goals in each of the opening quarters against Freo.

  • NON-MFC: Round 07

Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.

The Dees are back at the MCG on Thursday for the annual blockbuster ANZAC Eve game against the Tigers. Can the Demons win back to back games for the first time since Rounds 17 & 18 last season? Who comes in and who goes out?
