People don't seem to realise that Swan has excellent pace. ANB doesn't.

Probably more Sidebottom.

No one ever said he was a Swan clone.

I just get reminded of Swan a bit when I see him play.

Not sure why.

Hayes or Cross might be better comparisons, but I don't think his pace is that limited.

The kid hasn't even played a league game yet already there are comparisons to Brownlow and Norm Smith medalists.

Is there any wonder when a draftee doesn't fire we are so gutted?

Lower your expectations guys.

Aren't they just comparing them in style rather than saying they will be 'as good as'....?

The medicos have fixed that issue, I asked him, just unlucky first up

As for the comments on his fitness, he is another Cross, trains when he doesn't have to, both he and Stretch were really fit when they arrived at the club

The only way to "fix" it with any certainty is surgery. He hasn't had that. Yet.

We should be more focused on praising a champion of the game going into his 150th then a draftee yet to prove anything on the big stage. Let's see how he goes first fellas

I wonder when his recurrent dislocation of the patello-femoral joint will happen again?

Well ...err yes. Alpacas are related to camels.

It wasn't the armpits though.

hahaha, you sure they were fleas Bbo, or are you just putting the blame on those poor unfortunates, you call 'stock', er, pets? ;)

Or we could praise both of them; one for completing a marvellous achievement of 150 AFL games, and one for fulfilling a life long dream of playing AFL

If you're after a comparison, how about our own James McDonald?

From the small amount that I've seen, he seems to share that intangible intelligence and attitude that took Junior the extra mile.

So because a player is likened to others in an attempt to shed light on style you think those examples are peoples expectations.

Interesting.

Interesting.

Fair points, I accept both.

Still, to call a young kids 'style' so prematurely is pretty rich.

Ed: regardless of style or potential, my point was referring to the way we liken our youngster to A graders. There's plenty more players in the league that he would be similar to.

Well said... Whilst we have been starved of success & so many failed picks all these young players will take a number of preseasons to develop.... Patience is the key

To be fair, everyone does that. When you are trying to provide a player comparison, you set the bar high. You won't hear many people utter the sentence about a young player, "he reminds me a lot of Chris Newman".

Thanks for reinforcing my point, P-man.

Watching him at Glenelg, ANB reminds me of J Selwood. Go boy!

My point was that it certainly isn't something particular to our supporters, which seemed to be the suggestion though perhaps I misinterpreted. Everyone does it. Media, fans, even the players themselves. And why not? Being excited about a youngster is a good thing, whether or not he turns out to be as good as Dane Swan.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
