Throughout the whole game when Collingwood had Oxley loose in defence we didn't kick goals, when we had even numbers in the forward line we were kicking goals.

Gawn played a brilliant second quarter. He got involved around the ground and won about 6 or 7 tap outs to advantage. He was pretty much unsighted in the last and I needs to take park marks. The good ruckman do. If he could play four quarters to the standard of the second term he'd be one of our most important players, but he's never been able to run out a game.

The fact he couldn't run out the game as well as you think he should have had zero impact on the result.

He was far more valuable then either of Jamar or Spencer have been for us and his match fitness will improve once he stays in the side.

I think ur pointing out what's obvious to everyone. Yet u win thr ball in the middle and don't turn it over like in the 2nd qtr and oxley has no influence.

We didn't lose the game because of 1 move

We lost because we gave the ball away too often and u don't beat good teams when you give them head starts and easy goals

Regardless, do you think we still would have won the game with all the other turnovers we caused resulting in goals for them?

It's not as simple as just putting a bloke on Oxley. Maybe Roos thought it would be more important to have an extra number around the ball and if so the onus is on the players themselves to realise you cannot consistently bang it on the boot inside 50 without looking.

This is the [censored] AFL. You need to be able to retain possession at times.

It's an imbalance in attributes. We have a lack of skill level and decision making throughout the team. Plain and simple.

It's not Roos.

I agree our skills are bad. They always have been.

The coach should get the most out of his cattle.

Do you think Roos thought today would be the day Matt Jones or Viney suddenly stopped, propped and hit a leading Howe in between his defender, Hogan's 2 and the spare man? I don't.

Scores were level late in the 3rd. Oxley was [censored] us all day. The simple change could've made a huge difference, our skill level isn't going to be any different any time soon.

We gave them one spare back, we had one spare back.

The game became a defensive rebound game, with the extra.

The issue for us being we cannot retain nor move the ball with an extra they can.

One on one we were dominating because the game didn't rely on skill.

Our backline continues to make dumb dumb schoolboy errors every week ending up in easy goals. Personally I am sick of watching Dunn, Garland and McDonalds poor skills and decision making. McDonald is the best this year but I am over our senior guys stuffing up with lack of poise.

We must have the most brainless bunch with ball in hand in our back half.....totally over it.

We are giving that effort on a more consistent basis though.

Those calling for a massive clean out are a little off the mark though - there will be a clean out, but we clearly have more quality on the list than we have had in years. We still have some handy players to return as well.

No doubt Oxley playing loose was a big difference. That and Cloke man handling TMac early.

Gawn was good, but he faded as the game went on. His fitness is the issue I have with him, so today didn't really ease my concerns.

I'm not going to make excuses for Roos today, but he is improving us regardless.

By the time Goodwin takes over, I think he'll make a better game day coach.
Roos/McCarthy development is second to none.

We probably do need to attack more at times.

Brayshaw - Super game, tried all day, got better as the game went on. Classy, clean, and effective.

Jones - Back to his best, was vintage today.

Vince - Excellent game, really is having an underrated year, like Brayshaw - good on both sides of the body.

Howe - Pivotal early, kept us in the game till half time.

I'm not too disgruntled at the loss, Collingwood are hard to topple on QB.

Game plan to beat Melbourne... put a spare man back in defence and apply pressure. Pies outscored us 8 goals to nil with those tactics. Port did it last week. They know how to run and skills to back up ball movement.

Lost in team selection on thursday night and the outcoached today.

Paul Roos why the [censored] did you just let Oxley roam around as a loose man in defence for the whole game!? Don't blame that [censored] on the past or players being scarred! Time to put your hand up and take responsibility for today!

The Oxley thing I agree on, but the players gave up the goose in the fourth quarter. We had a really good chance to get a few on the board and keep the heat on, but decided not to. Not much Roos can do there.

We were the better side for the middle two quarters but we couldn't capitalise because we continually made critical errors leading to Collingwood goals.

Garland, Dunn and Lumumba all did some things right, but all made horrendous mistakes when we had momentum. We can't progress as a team when this continues to happen.

N Jones, Vince, Cross, Brayshaw and Viney were immense. Newton and Riley tackled hard but otherwise offered us little. M Jones was awful - has absolutely no football instinct. Pedersen also opened the door for Dawes, I wouldn't be surprised to see that switch made.

Think I would give Gawn a pat on the back as well. Offered a lot from the ruck and contributed to the better performance of our mids.

Oxley free ranging, red time fades and stupid brain farts cost us. Did not think we got it from the umps. Can think of two goals we got from dodgy decisions.

Overall thought for 3 quarters we were good, they jumped us but we came back each time. Last quarter was not so good. Given last years 3 goal effort this years 13 goals shows definite improvement.

Collingwood are not much better than us and will not win any of the next 4 games except the bye. Don't rate them at all.

I was a big supporter of Watts, spoke to shifter Sheehan before we drafted him, said he was going to be a gun, unfortunately, I believe he is too soft and will amount to nothing as a Melbourne player, sorry to say so, be we will better off when he is traded. His game today was soft, I've had enough.
