Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

2015 apparent out of contract players merged with targets at seasons end

One Ruckman: Griffen, Leuenberger, Smith or Dixon

One A-grade Midfielder: Danger, Sloane, Shiel or Treloar

One of any of the following second-tier mids: Douglas, Selwood, Moore, De Boer, Coniglio, Yarran or Ellis-Yolmen

One of the following youngsters: Lennon or Lonergan

And I wouldn't even mind if we got another veteran FA in to take over from Cross and to allow for further development for our younger mids.

One of: Thompson, Bartel, Kelly or Goodes. (Very unlikely of course).

We have to have at least three more mids come from other clubs. We need to land a star player and it doesn't bother me how much we pay them. The second two definite starting 22 players with who possess both skill and fierce competitiveness.

Offer Danger 7 million over 6 years & Leunberger 2.5 million over 4 years. Would be a good start to the trade period!

I'd prefer to offer it to Shiel. For mine, he's surpassed Dangerfield now. He's certainly more consistent.

Shiel is having a great year, but he has no way surpassed Dangerfield.

The thought of Dangerfield in red and blue is so appealing, because it's been so long since we've had such a dynamic midfielder. He's not the most consistent of players though. Shiel is younger and still has improvement in him. We know what Dangerfield can do. Of course, I wouldn't say no to Patrick. He's a gun, but he's an inconsistent gun that struggles with a tag. Shiel is almost unstoppable, because he gut runs and is a fierce competitor.

. Brisbane are just as desperate now for a forward as we were back when we drafted him.

leadership & a tall forward even if he's a 3rd tall. = Dawes. clubs who need leaders & maturity with some years left, saints, lions, blues, & Us

lets have a crack at Henderson, if we can pry him loose, or interest him, we could give players & pick to the blues, who are starting another rebuild, behind both the saints & the lions.

the blues could get Dawes, Garland, Watts, Gawn, or a combo & pick/s.... do a deal for Hendo & Yarran; Dawes & garland/watts/gawn + an early pick, if not our first, then we could maybe trade for another.

... Dees benefits, we get a needed player 'Henderson' who can play either end or pinch in the ruck, becomes another marking tall to add to Hogan.

...Blues benefits, get Dawes to help steer the rebuild with maturity & support is a ready made tall forward who plays as 3rd. supports & teaches Jaksch & other forwards.

...a Garland, Watts or even Gawn to further develop under fresh scenery, & a renewing culture... these guys need a fresh start after our own past culture issues

...an early pick better than P20 to add more to their young talent.

I think this could work for both clubs, or maybe some tweaking of players for the blues needs.

wats the chance the lions blues & gws will do a 3way trade ??? Aish to blues/ Murphy, Yarran, Gibbs to???/ Shiel, other, to???/

I hope we onto all angles of possibilities this trade year.

Mr McLachlan, push fitzy out the way, tell the old blues to stand back; & then add some creativity, to oil these clubs squeaking axles.

The reality is that we will not land any prized midfielders unless we win more games and be competitive in our losses. We need about 6-8 wins this year to look as if we are on the up, and that appears highly unlikely. Honestly, even with big cash thrown about, who'd want to come to the biggest basket case in the last ten years when they could have a reasonable choice of the top 5 clubs? Don't give me this BS that so-and-so used to barrack for the Dees as a kid or that we can shop pick 3 around in a poor draft year. Our best bet is to trade for a bunch of mid tier players, as we did with Lumumba, and maybe a veteran or two who want a retirement top up and hope that Tyson, Brayshaw and Petracca become A graders fast.

You could be right there.

Had thought he had pinch hit in the ruck at Richmond as they used him all over the place. Not sure tho.

Even as 'just a forward' I would be happy. Much better option than Dawes to line up along side Jesse.

I reckon we should try landing Lachie Henderson from the Blues.

draft guns

Darcy Tucker ...Simon Black type midfielder

Sam Weideman ... agile tall CHF to compliment Jesse Hogan

From what I've seen, Tucker is more of a run and burst, line breaking midfielder with great agility. Would love to see us get him, think he'll go pretty high this year.

What are we going to give up to get these guys in?

Our first round pick? Our second round pick? Trade? Who? Howe's probably all we have in terms of currency.

Let Garland go in free agency?

I think we should chase budget smart acquisition free agents but otherwise stick to the draft. We aren't going to get a trade deal on our terms for a good player.

Cheap free agent

Pre season draft/delisted free agent

Possibly trade Howe if he fetches top 20 draft pick value

Toumpas or Watts for steak knives if we no longer want them?

3rd or 4th round picks

That's our currency. We need to keep our first 2 picks and find high class players with them. We have to build around our 18-23 year olds - Hogan, Tyson, Viney, McDonald, Salem, Brayshaw, Petracca, Stretch etc.

I'd put our first three selections in the draft on the table and use them as aggressively as possible. That may depend on Jake Lovett a little as I'm not sure where he may go in the draft or if we actually want to draft him, but I'd put the picks up for trade and see where that gets us to begin with. We've drafted enough over the last 6-7 years, giving up a few won't hurt us if we get the right players in.

Forwards

We need another forward as depth doesn't have to be a big namer as Hoges will continue to develop in leaps and bounds. If Dawes could stay fit and provide forward pressure with tackling and providing a strong contest to bring every entry to ground as a minimum it would be okay with Hogan and possibly Frost as our other tall options.

Midfield/Ruck

Still our biggest deficiency with midfield depth which has been exposed due to the following

  • No obvious replacement for Jamar being groomed for god knows how many years
  • Viney, Kent, Salem injuries hitting us hard with 3 rotation options being eliminated
  • Vandenburg & Brayshaw showing signs of tiring and injury list resulting in neither of these players being given a week off to freshen up
  • Vince having the bare minimum pre season which was always going to catch up with him
  • Jones and Tyson carrying niggles which has impacted on their two way running

Our midfield is serviceable and wont get annihilated when we are all fit but we fall away very quickly as has been shown

Defence

This is our absolute strong point and has been for the last couple of years and whilst not a lot of work is required we can't standstill as other teams will improve. Jetta has become a very good small defender but his concussion issues are a worry and we need to find another go to option if he misses any more time. Salem is composed, brave and great by foot but without Jimmy Toumpas coming on we lack another decent ball user from our backline.

Strategy I like others think we need a couple of guns but Hogan is going to need to be tied up with a lucrative contract or he will be lost to us. Taking this into mind we need to be smart and draft good quality AFL players and keep some coin aside to land a gun or two

Forwards

Henderson will not come cheap and really wouldn't pay overs for him. I don't think we are to bad here when you take our inside 50 count into the argument. Hogan will be a gun and despite my reservations earlier in the season Kent was applying himself and proving himself to be a good defensive forward and the pace to worry defences going the other way. Garlett will be better when we get more of the ball in the forward 50 and my focus would be more towards the midfield ruck stocks with players like Kent, Brayshaw, Petracca, Viney, Vince, Vandenburg doing plenty of rotations through in the same style as the Swans, while having Hogan, Frost & Dawes/Pedersen as your 3 talls.

Aaron Black

Sam Reid

Midfield/Ruck

Luenberger has been a good ruckman but has been past by Martin, he is young enough to have a decent price tag so I wouldn't go all out for him unless he is a free agent my trade currency would be targeted toward 1 or 2 gun mids. I have seen a lot of Jon Griffen in the WAFL and he is still a decent ruckman and IMO better than what we have. He wants game time and is always going to struggle to get in ahead of Sandilands.

Shiel he is an absolute gun and will take our first pick and then some, you can also guarantee Pies, Tigers and Blues will be throwing a lot of cash his way. So he will be a hard get as will Treloar and any one of these will be an A grade addition to which ever team gets them. Josh Kelly is another who will be a target but not sure how serious the talk of him moving is. Hannebery does he want to come home or not another great target but I don't see him moving. Aish showed a lot early and his head isn't in the right space currently but he can play and a new environment would help but definitely buyer beware with him. Dangerfield is in the same boat as Treloar and Shiel although he is going to command more money and for this reason I would target the other two over him. Brad Crouch is another who's contract I have no idea about but the kid has all the tools and is very underrated when being compared to the others in the Crows midfield.

Targets in order

A grade targets

Shiel, Treloar, Hannebery & Danger

B grade but rising

Crouch & Kelly

Out of favor or just short term pick ups

Griffen, Luenberger, Aish

Defence

A back up for Jetta and if we could somehow find that good ball used from the backline, Suckling is a free agent but will want big quids and I wouldn't pay it as his deficiencies would be amplified in our side. Really struggling to think of any obvious defensive targets who are out there

Best available option or draft one for the future

Very good post STMJ

One Ruckman: Griffen, Leuenberger, Smith or Dixon - Griffen and free up some more cash although Luey may be a free agent

One A-grade Midfielder: Danger, Sloane, Shiel or Treloar - Shiel or Treloar, Danger is going to eat big time into the salary cap

One of any of the following second-tier mids: Douglas, Selwood, Moore, De Boer, Coniglio, Yarran or Ellis-Yolmen - Selwood reportedly looking for $600k+ so no from me, Douglas would be a good get, De Boer would be shown up in a bad side but is a good honest player, tagging option. Coniglio to pricey, Yarran ??? is he a FA

One of the following youngsters: Lennon or Lonergan

And I wouldn't even mind if we got another veteran FA in to take over from Cross and to allow for further development for our younger mids.

One of: Thompson, Bartel, Kelly or Goodes. (Very unlikely of course). Matty Rosa has the running capacity most of our list sadly lack and would only have Thomspon as the absolute elite in the Cross terms of looking after their body

We have to have at least three more mids come from other clubs. We need to land a star player and it doesn't bother me how much we pay them. The second two definite starting 22 players with who possess both skill and fierce competitiveness.

I doubt we have any chance at getting a big fish (Shiel or Dangerfield).

I would target:

Dylan Shiel - Uncontracted gun.
Bryce Gibbs - Out of form and Carlton might trade him too cheaply.
Chris Yarran - Provides pace and skill which we definitely need.
Johnathan Griffen - We need a ruckman and he is probably the best not getting a game.
Sam Dwyer - Pace and skill.
Aaron Hall - Pace.
Harley Bennell - Contracted but Eade might find him too much to handle.
Matthew Leuenberger - Free agent but injury prone.
Andrew Moore - Victorian utility not getting a game for Port due to injury and form.
Matthew Spangher - Good footballer who looks to be outside Hawthorn's 22.
Daniel Gorringe - Uncontracted and looks to be behind Nicholls and Smith, with Peter Wright also on the list.
Stephen Coniglio - Uncontracted and vastly improving player this season.

We chatted to Steve coniglio last year, best mates with Dom Tyson, would be a good get but I don't think these guys are going to leave the Giants I'm a hurry

If they were having another average year then I think we might be a chance - as it stands I can't see them jumping ship. They are up and about and, right now, it would be a step down to come and play for us.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
