2015 apparent out of contract players merged with targets at seasons end

We aren't going to land shiel without offering him the mother of all contracts and there is no guarentee that even if he agreed to come to us that Jeremy Howe and or first pick would be enough, I think we'd be better off trying to get a couple of blokes from the next Teir down and developing that superstar from within

Howe and our first pick for coniglio and tommlinson??

Fwd options

Lachie Henderson Blues

Liam McBean Tigers

mids

Dion Prestia Suns

Rucks

Jonathan Griffin Dockers

draft guns

Darcy Tucker ...Simon Black type midfielder

Sam Weideman ... agile tall CHF to compliment Jesse Hogan

Henderson is a good Centre Half Back and an average Centre Half Forward.

I still think Josh Kelly and Lachie Whitfield should be our targets.

I understand they are both still in contract, but so was Boyd.

GWS will be under pressure to fit all these players in, they will need to let some go.

The bidding war for Shiel will ensure some promising players will be squeezed out.

conca is a bit like toumpas - too slow, not skilled, insipid.

doesn't have the capacity to really run thru midfield, nor the defensively accountability to play half-back rebound role.

stuck in that awkward position of between being an outstanding junior talent and lacking the ability to convert that to the afl.

wouldn't go near him personally.

Yep I remember it all looks easy when you are only 18. The hardest thing I ever did was play in the seniors (Rugby) at 19 It was like I wasn't prepared for the game at all

I can understand the allure of Howe for some highlights and Garland as a solid medium defender.

Not sure what they would do with Dawes however, he'd be about fifth in line for a forward spot there

good point 'deeko', I was thinking of what we have to offer, & Dawes came to mind as an after thought. your right Dawes would suit other clubs better than the Giants.

Can't imagine watts slotting in up there, but could see him on the Gold Coast.

Wattsy would also go well on the vast spaces over in the West, where his pace & kicking would be very handy.

however Wattsy may come good in RednBlue yet.

Henderson is a good Centre Half Back and an average Centre Half Forward.

& thats why he's ideal as the 2nd forward to Hogan. with another like a Pederson or Frost helping out up forward. it gives us the versatility that will see us in good sted. we would have 2 players who can play 2nd tall forward or tall back, & also help in the ruck.

this allows us to go in with maybe less talls & more quicks.

we need someone like Henderson.

I'm beginning to think that Coniglio might be more gettable than Shiel or Treloar - GWS will put up the mother of all battles to keep those two, which might squeeze out the likes of Coniglio.

The attraction for Coniglio of coming to us is that he's in the first level of on-ballers, not a flanker changing on the ball when the first level need a break.

GWS have so many high draft pick mids that their second tier is enormous. They won't all be content to play second fiddle.

Our first pick will likely be sitting around number 5 which I'd be more than happy to trade for Coniglio. Isn't he good mates with Tyson as well?

I'd be absolutely stunned if GWS were to let Kelly go.

They really rate him, and I think wrapped him up till about 2017 as soon as they could.

I think we still lack some speed and composure through the midfield. With Jones, Vince, Vanders, Brayshaw and Viney we now have a bit of midfield grunt but some breakaway speed from the contest and precision kicking from the middle would be perfect. Maybe look for a Isaac Smith sort of running wingman. I don't know how many/if any are available but Kent is the only one in that mould that we currently have.

Frankly we don't need another versatile CHF/CHB type as we already have Pederson, Frost and now Fitzy who fill that role. We are better to focus on adding another mid such as Josh Kelly or Coniglio

are we already giving up on the hard battles?

this attitude is what got us our financial plights. no entrepreneurial spirit. we just raise the drawbridge & keep others away. including our peasant supporters; they leave to go elsewhere, & voila, we are where we are.

smash down that wall & drawbridge, & let people IN. & recruits.

my goodness me, you must be kidding. we're not playing to be in the vfl, & we are not building for a successful 8th AFL spot, as our ultimate aim... we are building for ongoing success..

Of course we need Henderson.

If we can win 8+ games this year and continue to improve, its a validation that the trade, draft and development approach that Roo's and co have put in place is working. So why dump this strategy and join the rest of the league in a bidding war for a big name star?

We should present our case to all potential recruits but continue to be very canny in how we spend our draft currency...

If we're lucky a big name will look across a dozen offers and for some reason ours will appeal, if not we'll content ourselves with another helping of the next Brayshaw, VandenBurg, Frost, Garlett and Lumumba...

The wheel is turning.

A very good midfielder. I don't care who just get a good one.

we need that good midfielder as well, as well as that Henderson. compliments Frost, & Pedo is OK, but not going to help get a flag... it seems at this point anyway. He may surprise further, but more likely he is at his best, or near to it.

now is the right time for us to go hammers & tongs for the mature recruits. we are starting to come out of the dilemma's we have been thru, the list is mostly cleansed from the bruise-less, & the others need further youngish leaders in the 24-25 yr bracket.

our list is pretty weak in the 26 - 28 yr bracket so we will get some hickups in the next 2 - 3 seasons time.

so we requires a couple of good players in the +-25yr olds, & some about 21-22 yrs

.... here are some players to look at come 2015 years end, apparently said to be out of contract at this time? some may be a good fit for us?

no doubt there will be other potential trades amongst still contracted players, still within other clubs lists.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie
