MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 9

I think you'll find brayshaw may well be sub as he is so young and never experienced conditions like Alice springs before.

I'm really not sure what the issue is with the supposed "conditions" in Alice Springs. It will be 26c with a 10% chance of rain and 58% humidity. Melbourne at the same time will be 14c no rain and 63% humidity... really, apart from the temperature, which is not stiflingly hot in the Alice, it's not so different.

Actually thats usually what causes betting to be suspended and the odds are adjusted accordingly. We were 3.35 before the suspension 2.95 after it resumed. The bookies always know whats going on even if we dont.

It's probably more accurate to say that the bookies don't know much more than us, but they assume the people betting large sums of money with them do. They respond to unusual and unexpected betting patterns and make changes accordingly.

Always amazes me too hardtack

Both sides have to play in the same conditions.

In this case the team is Port, Adelaide at this time of the year is very similar to Melbourne.

The subject is hardly worth discussing.

26 when you've been training and playing at 10-15 for the last month at least can be a shock to your system, but Adelaide hasn't been much warmer.

I'd pick a running side (as we have) but I wouldn't make the sub decision based on the conditions.

I'd only have Brayshaw sub if it's a load management thing after seeing Salem and JKH get injured and Hogan benefit from a week off.

Sure. But a close second is stopping opposition players getting and using the ball. Especially key opposition playmakers.

As we know they're in to stop Broadbent and Pittard. A lot of our game strategy will be pinned on this, lets hope they succeed or it will be a very long day of footy tomorrow.

I hear that M Jones and Bail are great runners blah blah blah, can't find the bail or hit a target. Might as well get Morton back, he could run too.

I'd rather players who can get and use the ball.

Morton never blanketed his opponents with his running, Bail and Jones did. Move on.

Even more ludicrous!! You want Bail and Matt Jones as part of a midfield?? Viney Sub?? Doesn't make sense then to drop Riley and Newton!!

Oh I get it,, Hardtack says I'm gonna be surprised by Toumpas!? Maybe we start with Mr.Grunt personified in the midfield?

Could you shut up? When was the last time you watched a melbourne game? Toumpas is coming off a 2 goal, 20 disposal 8 tackle 3 inside 50 game, yet you're still giving him stick. We get it, you don't like him. Your last 400 posts all fins a way to criticize him. Give up man. Go and run a bath, have a cup of tea, change your diet to something with lower cholesterol- your blood pressure is through the roof over 3 players last week that played their roles. Give us a spell of you incessant, tiresome drivel and focus on some of the good. Ffs

In regards to this week's sub:

(From AFL.com.au) Midfielder Jack Viney will also return for the Demons having overcome a fracture in his fibula that has kept him out since the club's loss to Greater Western Sydney in round two.

Roos said Viney was raring to go and the 21-year-old looked in peak condition in a light training session with teammates at the venue on Friday.

"He probably could've played last week but we held him off," Roos said of Viney.

"We'll probably talk about playing him as the sub to start, but he’s ready to play, otherwise he wouldn't be here."

Sounds like Jack "The Bull" Viney is ready to rumble. Bring on the bullfight. Let's hope there is some metaphoric blood spilt.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
