Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

I said I was starting to think that there might be a problem with Roos strategy. I did not say there was. Sydney was a very different team to the present Melbourne team. Malthouse is not exactly doing well with Carlton and Rodney Eade is having problems getting Gold Coast to perform. It is hard to take a team to the top and even harder to keep them there. Roos is a great people manager but his game is very defensive. Most of our problems appear to be in the midfield. We need to hope that Goodwin can get them playing.

i haven't seen much defending since the bye last year, who else would be responsible for a side that repeatedly lacks effort?

Uh, the players.

And the endless blame game for the coach is exactly the reason we are in this endless mess. The players need to shut up, do what they're told, put in the effort, and the reward will come.

There is nothing wrong with what Roos is implementing, and one need only look at the players we've drafted/recruited since he joined us to validate that.

I would add in delist as many spuds as possible and actually recruit decent players to that as well.

Clint it is the second part that is hard. We have been delisting spuds like crazy for the last 4 years, we haven't necessarily been bringing in decent types.

I still believe Roos has two main goals before the handover

Teach us to defend and be accountable which were improving at

And get this list in the best shape possible for Goodwin to take it somewhere,

Remember he took over a team that was 2 wins 52% and 8 80 plus point losses in the one season

yes he took over a crap side, but we are still a crap side, the marginal improvement is due to the list improving, the basic requirements to be a consistently competitive side don't exist, Roos is responsible for that.

Roos out, Goodwin in

Roos has been given everything he has requested & open cheque book, result 6 win 23 lose, Neeld 5 win 28 lose.

we were not competitive for the entire 2nd half of last year & beaten by quarter time many times this year.

his recruiting & management have been fine but his coaching is unconnected.

he remains untouchable & beyond criticism by public & media.

Which is what we need at the moment. There have been big list changes and more to come, we need to keep pushing on.

Goodwin would be crucified with this team, let the process continue.

Could be worse, we could be the Suns or blues

Can't agree SPR.

At least Carlton have played finals in the last few yrs (although I admit they have had similar recruiting to us) and GC haven't had to deal with 9 yrs of absolute shitz results on the field.

Knowing our luck both Cartlon and GC will pass us next season just like the dogs and Power have in the past.

Hey someone has to anchor the bottom of the ladder and at least we are consistent in doing that.

Anyone criticising Roos either has a very short memory, or zero idea about the modern game.

Was he on the field today? No.

Did he draft or recruit half our list? No.

Did he get us into the mess we're in after years of [censored] drafting and [censored] development? No.

Did he do pretty much everything right from the moment he got in the door, including spending a year teaching players how to defend? Yes.

Is it his fault his players are seemingly incapable of following basic instructions or putting in EFFORT? NO.

at least one person on this site is talking sense.

Actually, we were the only side this year to win all four first quarters in the first month.

Our first quarters were, until the horror three game stretch, one of the highlights of the season. Even in the two losses to the now 5-2 Giants and Crows, we jumped both of them by hitting them hard early.

Nice try.

Howe must have an offer on the table for next season because he isn't playing like a player showcasing their talents for a new contract. He needs to find form or pull on a scorps jumper.

Jetta has been sorely missed, and Salem getting hurt is a huge blow. There just isn't enough talent burning up the vfl for spots to allow the axe to be swung like it should be.

I agree about Howe and as a middle finger to him on the way out we should refuse to deal for him - send him to the PSD to try his luck, will end up at Carlton or Brisbane.

fair call & probably the safe option.

but (always a but) thats assuming Goodwin would fail, no reason Goodwin won't be crucified 2017 onwards anyway (what then).

we've got our coach at the club, let the process begin, Roos can stay on he can hand out the bananas

Out: Roos

In: Goodwin

Roos job at mitigating the avalanche of goals from box was pisspoor, as was his press conference full of excuses and rhetoric.

Anyone who is capable of wanting roos to be sacked just think for a moment the state of the liat he inherited and then look at the transformation of the list thus far. You would be a fool to think roos has done a poor job

Roos ... as was his press conference full of excuses and rhetoric.

Excellent press conference from a mature, experienced, premiership-winning coach, showing that he knows exactly what he's doing and has it completely under control.

(ridiculous hyperbole can go both ways ...)

People wanting Goodwin in now have short memories.

Look at what the press did to Neeld when the team consistently played like this.

Goodwin wouldn't last 5 mins while the team plays like this.

Roos is using his brownie points with the media to shelter Goodwin from the sh-- storm.

Those calling for Goodwin are looking for the magic wand to fix everything at once, now!

It is still the 'saviour' mentality.

I rarely blame the players and almost never an individual player but yesterday was beyond the pale.

They must have looked at the Hawks and decided they couldn't be bothered, before the first bounce.

Embarrassing! Shameful!

No point blaming Roos.

We can't win a clearance and we can't score a goal. It's pathetic that we can't kick 10 goals in a match. Our scoreline reads like a soccer match except for the oppostion's who can score at will.

we're on the way to that statistic this year too. 105 is bigger than the margin we lost to the Hawks in the GF of 1988 FFS.

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
